hadriel_logs | Event Log: Fourth Wall, Part One

Who: Everyone in the city + Fourth Wall visitors!
What: Part one of the fourth wall event, hosted by Fear, Confusion, and Delight!
Where: All around the city
When: October 24th-November 1st
Warnings: Visitors from other worlds!

If you're not from around here, you may be wondering what's going on. You've woken up out of the blue in the colosseum, or near a temple, or in one of the numerous other locations in the city. You're somewhere underground and it's dark, cold, and maybe a little unnerving.

Luckily, shortly after your arrival, the road below your feet begins to light up in a gentle, warm glow. The light points you in a set direction and, if you choose to travel that way, will lead you toward the center of the city, where there is a large gathering of others who are lost here like you, people who might know their way around a bit more, and even some of the gods who rule this place.

There are lights strung up on poles throughout the large clearing, casting a comforting glow onto the tables beneath them. The tables are abundant with lots of food that looks simply delicious- though, none of it tastes quite like it should. The tarts taste like green beans, the mashed potatoes like cheesecake, and the chocolate seems oddly reminiscent of steak. In addition, there are decorations artfully placed around the meeting point. If you see them moving, don't worry- that's probably just your imagination.

Also distributed along the tables are shot glasses, filled with a sludgy, yellow substance. If you're brave enough to consume them, they taste strongly of mint and will give you a much needed energy boost, circumventing the need to eat or sleep for a full 24 hours! After that, however, everything hits you all at once, so use them wisely. Some of you may remember these shots from our How Delightful event earlier this year!

In addition to all of the above, there are also party poppers strewn around the area. Each popper can jet out some strange objects- glitter bombs, seashells, plastic dinosaurs, maybe a live lizard or two- so be careful! Feel free to use your discretion on these, but remember to keep it small!

Of course, you can always not travel that way. The rest of the city has plenty of places to explore- maybe you'd like to stumble in our Silent Hill zone, have a quick look around the alien orchard, or check out any of the god temples that can inspire their chosen emotion. Be careful not to get lost in the tunnels leading away from the cave- none of them can actually move you above ground, but you may run into a few monsters on the way.

For those of you who have been with us awhile, please bear with the gods while they try to adjust around these new folks! Join in on the festivities if you like, or try to orient as many of the others as you can. Start a community outreach program, start a fight club, introduce your parents to your weird cave girlfriend- nobody's judging!

Enjoy the fourth wall event at Hadriel! Once you're settled in feel free to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

Fourth wall characters do not enter with phones so they cannot reach the network- however, if you'd like to handwave that they somehow got ahold of Mello's Newcomer guide to avoid the 'where am I/what is this' sort of questions, then feel free!

[Quiet though it is, Frisk hears that soft note of worry. They open their eyes, blink, and turn...ah.]

Hey there.

[They seem to be running into a plethora of themself today. Not that Frisk minds so much; there are certainly stranger things they could be dealing with, and many of them much less pleasant.]

[Frisk pats the ground next to them, and smiles.]

You came to listen too, right?

Yeah, I did.

[Only half of the truth, but it's a truth nonetheless. Slowly, they approach, taking the offered patch of ground for themself as Frisk looks up at this- person's face, frown less about finding something upsetting, and more...concentration.

They know this person, don't they. The answer is easy.

They're too scared to ask.]

It's my favorite part of the Underground.

[Frisk looks down at their other self with a gentle smile--the surreal feeling of looking at a video playing back in real time never quite leaves them, but it's small enough to set aside.]

Mmm, it's mine, too. Always felt a little more calm in that hallway.

[Between the soft patter of water droplets and the music box, it had been enough to nearly lull them to sleep, when they let themself sit and listen for a while. It was...nice.]

...Do you ever wonder what would've happened if we just stayed there?

[Because they'd tried, a few times. Until they'd run out of food and been forced to press on, however many hours or days past the point that they'd stopped. Chara had hated it, but...

At least they'd never starved.]

If we...?

[* You are going to pull the plug.]
[* You are going to tear out every last control that is left in this miserable GAME.]
[* You will let us make our own decisions, or we will claw our way through this code and ERASE every last piece of you we can find.]

...yeah. A few times.

[They smile and gently smooth Frisk's hair back. There's a lot more they could say, but...well, spoilers. Besides, being pulled here has probably thrown things off for these younger kids. At least, they're hoping that's the case.]

But I don't think it would work for very long. At least some of the monsters would grow impatient, more likely than not. And I know at least one person down there that would be completely furious about it.

[Flowey did not like it when they kept putting things off like that.]

...say, have you ever gone on that date with Alphys yet?

[So it is them, isn't it? They don't quite understand; why so many of them seem fond of touching the top of their head, but Frisk can't say that they mind too much.

That's the second nicest thing anyone's done to them since they've been here.]

...He probably hated it.

[They don't sound too upset about that. If anything, they almost look like they're about to smile. It's a look that's quickly replaced by confusion, glancing up at themself like there's some big, unknown secret they aren't privvy to.]

Do we get to watch Mew Mew Kissy Cutie together?

[Frisk laughs and shakes their head, a merry twinkle in their eye.]

No, not that time! But you will, afterwards. And you'll be able to show her lots of other shows, too.

[They pause for a moment, thinking, before they continue.]

At the end, this last time...did Sans give you a different speech? About gaining love, but not LOVE?

[It's so weird. This Frisk is...weird.
They're so happy.
The younger cants their head to the side after a moment, a slight crease of concern on their brow. What does Sans have to do with watching anime with Alphys?]

...He says that sometimes. If I'm really good.

[Frisk nods, smiling gently. Good, that's half of the way already.]

When you go back, don't RESET just yet. LOAD, and go back past the CORE. Undyne had a letter she wanted me to deliver for her to Alphys. She's a little too embarrassed to give it to her herself, you know.

[Wink.]

Takes her a bit to work up the nerve and decide what she wrote is good enough. Might be she's had enough time by then.

[This would be so much easier if they could explain it in terms of the flags, but...that's a facet of the world that they don't want to burden Frisk with if they don't have to.]

[You know, bigger them, this all sounds a little familiar. Chillingly so.

Despite the fact that this taller version of them is acting so nice, Frisk looks up slowly, half lidded expression opening up just the slightest. Just enough to show the rusted over red of their eyes.]

He told me to do that too.

I'm not going to.

[Frisk looks down at them, frowning and a little solemn.]

Well. I'm not going to lie, it is a trap.

[They're not going to lie to the poor child.]

But you can turn it back around on him. I can tell you what his plan is, if you want.

He already told me. It's because he wants to play with me forever.

[Are you allowed to be honest with yourself? A small fist clenches, rubbing circles into their sternum. Sometimes, they can't say the words aloud.

Sometimes the words just don't matter.]

...I don't want to play anymore.

It's a bit more complicated than that. But...that is one way to put it.

[But explaining that whole mess would be a story in itself. And...maybe it's the old code acting up, but they're a little worried to tell it.]

[Their reasons, though..Frisk's brows peak in sympathy, and they nod.]

I know. It's...it sucks. It's hard and it sucks and no one else gets it.

[No one else except Chara, but Frisk figures they don't need to clarify that.]

I won't try to force you. But...at least for me to get out, I did have to face him again.
