hadriel_logs | Event Log: Fourth Wall, Part One

Who: Everyone in the city + Fourth Wall visitors!
What: Part one of the fourth wall event, hosted by Fear, Confusion, and Delight!
Where: All around the city
When: October 24th-November 1st
Warnings: Visitors from other worlds!

If you're not from around here, you may be wondering what's going on. You've woken up out of the blue in the colosseum, or near a temple, or in one of the numerous other locations in the city. You're somewhere underground and it's dark, cold, and maybe a little unnerving.

Luckily, shortly after your arrival, the road below your feet begins to light up in a gentle, warm glow. The light points you in a set direction and, if you choose to travel that way, will lead you toward the center of the city, where there is a large gathering of others who are lost here like you, people who might know their way around a bit more, and even some of the gods who rule this place.

There are lights strung up on poles throughout the large clearing, casting a comforting glow onto the tables beneath them. The tables are abundant with lots of food that looks simply delicious- though, none of it tastes quite like it should. The tarts taste like green beans, the mashed potatoes like cheesecake, and the chocolate seems oddly reminiscent of steak. In addition, there are decorations artfully placed around the meeting point. If you see them moving, don't worry- that's probably just your imagination.

Also distributed along the tables are shot glasses, filled with a sludgy, yellow substance. If you're brave enough to consume them, they taste strongly of mint and will give you a much needed energy boost, circumventing the need to eat or sleep for a full 24 hours! After that, however, everything hits you all at once, so use them wisely. Some of you may remember these shots from our How Delightful event earlier this year!

In addition to all of the above, there are also party poppers strewn around the area. Each popper can jet out some strange objects- glitter bombs, seashells, plastic dinosaurs, maybe a live lizard or two- so be careful! Feel free to use your discretion on these, but remember to keep it small!

Of course, you can always not travel that way. The rest of the city has plenty of places to explore- maybe you'd like to stumble in our Silent Hill zone, have a quick look around the alien orchard, or check out any of the god temples that can inspire their chosen emotion. Be careful not to get lost in the tunnels leading away from the cave- none of them can actually move you above ground, but you may run into a few monsters on the way.

For those of you who have been with us awhile, please bear with the gods while they try to adjust around these new folks! Join in on the festivities if you like, or try to orient as many of the others as you can. Start a community outreach program, start a fight club, introduce your parents to your weird cave girlfriend- nobody's judging!

Enjoy the fourth wall event at Hadriel! Once you're settled in feel free to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

Fourth wall characters do not enter with phones so they cannot reach the network- however, if you'd like to handwave that they somehow got ahold of Mello's Newcomer guide to avoid the 'where am I/what is this' sort of questions, then feel free!

Pretty much, yeah. But Delight has a bar and we can get free alcohol there.

[ Hell yeah let's drink our problems away, that is healthy! ]

[ EDGAR WRIGHT DRINKING MONTAGE. ]

[ Matt folds out his cane, he is so ready. Lead the way, Connor. ]

[theres an awkward pause while he considers before:]

Do you want my arm or something?

[ Aw, Connor. That's nice of you. Matt smiles. He doesn't really need it, but having people ask is way better than just assuming and grabbing his hand. ]

Sure.

[ There you go, Matt extends his hand. Truth is, it'll be easier to listen to the rest of the party if he doesn't have to worry about where he's going. ]

[well matt didnt get offended so mission accomplished. He gives matt his arm and now theyre ooff to delight's bar now they just have to make awkward conversation until they get drinks]

Where'd you go to law school?

[ Hey, small talk is cool. Matt didn't get through college without being able to master the art of small talk. ]

Oh, I went to Columbia. I've been a New Yorker my whole life.

Columbia, nice. It's a good school. [and because he's never gonna miss an opportunity to brag in turn:] I'm at Middleton.

[there's something there, though. a hint of regret. he'd applied to transfer to stanford. he still hadn't heard anything]

Middleton? I don't think we have that one.

[ I'm sorry for alternate universes Connor. But Matt can at least tell that it's supposed to be a brag, so it must be top ten?

And because he can hear what most people can't: ]

Was that your top choice?

Middleton was. But some things just...it's complicated? I tried to transfer. Stanford.

[he sighs]

My grades aren't the best right now. I'm working a lot. Probably won't get in.

They let you work your first year? That's gotta be rough.

[ It sounds complicated. Matt has no idea how complicated, of course, but Stanford's a good school. (not that matt would ever move to california...) ]

Who knows, right? Don't sell yourself short.

Yeah a group of us are interning for a professor.

[matt has no idea how rough, it's true. how badly they'd all wanted to work with annalise, how poorly it had worked out. how terrified he was of her now. of all of it.]

I probably would've heard something by now. So it's...[he shrugs. it's not alright. the idea makes him really upset - scared to be stuck at middleton, mad at himself for not just being better, which he shouldve been. working harder.]

[ Yikes that really must be bad with how nervous the talk seems to be making Connor. Matt will back off. ]

Well, you're here now so it's a moot point, right?

[ #TeamDenial right here ]

[yeah its almost BETTER to be in a murdercave so take that as you will. connor laughs, short]

True. Applications are kind of the least of my worries.

[ Law school is hell but Matt... would not exactly put it above a weird cave in that particular department but ok. ]

Yeah, you can worry about that when you get out of here.

Yeah, if / when that ever happens.

[but at least they made it to the bar]

Hey, who knows, right? The chances of getting pulled into some weird cave have to be pretty close to getting out of it.

[ God bless the bar. Now this is truly delightful. ]

Current Hadriel population statistics suggest otherwise.

[he leads them to a couple seats at the bar and lets go of him. he orders a mojito at least some drinks are universal]

Oh, yeah? And what do those statistics look like?

[ Matt will just have straight up scotch because for all that he is visibly handling this He Is Not. ]

Every once and awhile people leave, but there's way more people here than that and more people arrive in groups.

[sure matt get drunk]

You're more likely to get trapped here than just randomly go home on the next metaphorical train out.

[ Matt's great at this adult thing. ]
