What: The event log for the Fadeout event!
Where: All around the city
When: November 15th-November 25th
Warnings: None!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

I won't be a demon.

( Beth frowns, giving a small shake of her head. She doesn't have magic - there isn't anything special about her. It wouldn't possess her, it would just help her )

We're safe now, but all of the shit that happens here- I couldn't keep you safe before. I have to now.

( Hannah- she wants to tell her that she knows, that Beth remembers more than just giving her sister her coat. She died, Hannah did too. She has to protect her now )

I was an idiot; you did what you could! Shit. [ If Beth makes a deal with the thing, Hannah isn't sure she'd know what to do to fix it. If her sister would ever be the same again. ] If you make a deal with that demon, Beth, I swear I'll find one myself and do the same thing. You know I will.

[ She's deadly serious. If her making a deal with free her twin, then she'll do it in a second. ]

Don't let it come to that. [ Hannah whispers, stepping closer again, trying not to look into the ugly face of the monster even as her heart races. ] I'm begging you. Please.

Hannah-

( The threat got Beth to look away from the demon for a moment, shaking her head in disbelief that her sister would do such a thing. Didn't she understand how much she needed to do this? Beth loved that Hannah would try to protect her, or would even do it herself but the desire to do this was too strong to let Hannah talk her out of it.

But she had to protect her. Hannah couldn't make her own deal, not when it would cancel what she'd done for her )

You can't do that.

Neither can you! [ She exclaims, frustrated and afraid. ] Just - At least talk about it with me. Somewhere else, not... not here, with that.

[ For all she knows, the demon is influencing Beth's mind somehow. ]

There isn't time to.

( Which isn't like her. Beth isn't this impulsive, and she'd always talk things through with her sister )

I have to do it now. To save you.

You can't! [ Hannah yells, growing increasingly desperate. ] You can't stop what's going to happen and neither can that demon! It's a fucking demon, Beth! Don't be stupid!

[ She reaches out and snatches up Beth's hands, gripping tight, painfully so. ]

I'm warning you. If you do this, I'll do it, too. I'm not messing around.

Hannah-

( There's sadness in her expression, that Hannah doesn't want her help, that she doesn't want her to try everything to save her life. Hannah would do it- )

How do you know it won't work?

Because - like, how could anything with a demon ever work out? Otherwise it wouldn't be bad! [ She shifts, clearly uncomfortable, but not relinquishing Beth's hand. ] They warned us, didn't they? That was the first thing those people said, to... not trust them, not even talk to them!

( Yeah, they had. Beth had seen that message but she was desperate, enticed by the promise that things could be better. That her sister could be safe here and at home. It was what Beth needed, something that would give her peace of mind and certainty. Nothing else could be certain about that )

I don't know what else to do. I need you to be okay.

I'm not going to be okay! [ She exclaims, nearly stamping her foot in frustration. ] I'm going to be so fucking far from okay, but knowing that you'd be a demon, or whatever - that's worse, Beth. It's worse than - than anything.

[ Than knowing Beth's fate? Hannah shivers violently. ]

What can I say to change your mind?

I don't know.

( There's a pause, and then the truth. She has to do it - she has to make Hannah understand )

I lost you once. I can't lose you here. Not again.

Then I'm doing the same thing. [ She insists stubbornly, expression dark and stubborn. ] I'm going to make a deal right away to get you back and it'll be your fault for doing this.

You can't.

( It wouldn't work, and Beth couldn't risk anything happening to Hannah. That was what she was trying to prevent but if Hannah did that- )

You won't be safe. Don't you get it?

Of course I do! You won't be safe making this stupid decision, so I'm trying to show you how dumb it is! Either we're both safe or we're both not, Beth. I won't let you make this decision alone.

[ No one knows more than Beth how stubborn Hannah can be when she wants. ]

We'll never be safe. Not here, not-

( They were dead at home, and even if Beth had to stay dead at home what if she could do something to help Hannah?

But Hannah didn't want her help, which wasn't right. She'd do anything for her sister, why couldn't Hannah understand? )

There's nothing else I can do.

Yeah, you can. [ Jesus, Beth. ] You can stop being stupid and come home with me.
