Event Log: Fadeout

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Fadeout event!
Where: All around the city
When: November 15th-November 25th
Warnings: None!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

[Alphys is 100% No Fighter, but she's unfortunately incredibly noticeable- being a monster of pure magic, she's easily attracted a few lower-level demons tailing her through the streets. She's ducking through to try and get away, looking out for anything she can use to cover her exit, when--

Is that a Gundam? No. No that's too small to be a Gundam. But it does look like power armor and a rocket launcher, which, objectively, is awesome, and also means they've probably got some demon fighting experience.

So she ducks around a corner, looks up, and waves her arms around a bit in a hopefully) recognizable symbol of 'oh-god-please-blast-the-demons-with-your-rocket-launcher' sort of motion.]

[At first glance she's not sure what she's seeing, but that creature - whether human or not - isn't acting like the other demons and definitively looks to Pharah like she's needs some help.]

[She blasts off her perch, hovers closer to the gang of demons, and then lets loose a carefully placed rocket into the center of the fray; two of them are caught in its direct path, and the rest scatter from the residual damage. Pharah hovers down to alight on the ground and peer around the corner at the little yellow ... thing.]

Are you alright?

[Oh my god, there is a person in there. This is like Metroid but better. This is like Metroid written by Hideaki Anno but it's real and talking to her. Holy shit.

She shakes her head a bit to dissuade her looking... like, entirely too starstruck, all things considered.]

Y-Yeah. I mean, uh, I am now that those things are gone, because uhm, you blasted them, which was so cool by the w-way-- is that a real rocket launcher? I mean, of course it is, you shot it, I saw that, and uh, you were flying which is amazing--

[She cuts herself off by gripping her fist into her labcoat as a reminder of shut up, shut up, that's not what she asked.]

Uh, anyway, thank you! I hope I didn't uh, d-distract you from something important.

[Pharah chuckles at the little lizard's enthusiasm, and kneels down to be closer to her level.]

What do you mean? I am doing something important. [She holds her hand out.] You can call me Pharah. And yes, this is a rocket launcher, but I've got to be careful because I only have a limited number of rockets.

Unless, you happen to know anyone who can craft rockets?

[She can't help but blush when Pharah crouches down. Oh jeez, she's pretty too. And it's a she! Haha! Oh god, she's fuckin gay god save her.

She clacks her claws together gently, moving from that to rubbing her hands together as she thinks.]

Well, uhm, I've never made, uh, weapons, specifically, but I am an engineer. I d-don't know uh, what they're made of, but uhm, if I could find parts, or, something-- I mean, I should probably repay you for saving me, r-right?

You don't have to repay me for doing the right thing. In fact, if there is anywhere you need to go, let me escort you; this place seems to be overrun with nasties.

[She stands and checks her rocket launcher.] So you're saying if I brought you materials, you could make me rockets?

[THEY'RE GONNA WALK TOGETHER OOHMMYFDOODOGGOOD ok ok hold it together. Do Not Explode, holy shit. She still blushes harder, though. This is so much.]

Uh, if that's o-okay with you, and-- oh! Yes, uhm, probably. As long as you have, uh, one t-that's working that I could take a look at? I could, uh, replicate it, if there's parts. I'm pretty used to working w-with scrap metal and magic, uh, and everything.

[Pharah isn't sure why this little creature is so flustered, but it is endearing.]

Magic, is that so?

[She hadn't had much experience with it before arriving here, even if some of the technological advances in her world could almost be considered magic.]

-- and you haven't told me your name. It would be nice to know, if we're going to be working together.

Oh, yeah, I mean, I'm better at engineering than magic, even t-though it's more persistent, maybe your world doesn't have as much? Or, it-- oh gosh you asked my name I'msosorry.

[She finally stops to take a breath.]

It's Alphys. D-Dr. Alphys, technically, but just Alphys is fine.

Well, it is nice to meet you, Alphys. Where were you headed? I can escort you the rest of the way.

[Fareeha casts a look about them, making sure that no other demons are trying to get hte drop on them.]

Any magic in my world is usually just advanced technology that seems impossible. Admittedly I have a hard time believing in the gods here; I imagine they must just hold the secret to some pretty powerful tech.

I was, uh, h-heading back to my apartment, actually? In, uh, Delight's housing.

[She listens to the explanation, and immediately her words begin to get away from her.]

Oh! Well, no, m-magic definitely exists, I mean, it's what I'm made of, as a monster. Humans are more solid but monsters are made of magic, and that's why w-we can channel it and use it while human's can't, but it interacts with science in it's own unique way and can be tracked and studied just l-like physics and... you... p-probably don't care about. Uh. All that.

[She shuts her mouth immediately, a little mortified at her lack of an ability to shut up basically at all.]

[She chuckles and pats Alphys's shoulder.]

I don't mind at all. It's beneficial to know how other worlds work, especially since we're all forced to exist here together.

I might not understand the more technical aspects but I appreciate the basic overview.

H-Heh, well, uh... okay!

[God she is bombing this. Haha. Bombs. Because this girl wants rockets.

This is a bad joke.]

It's, uhm, kind of hard to imagine t-that there's worlds without magic in it. I've met a lot of humans here who, uhm, haven't ever heard of monsters or had magic and it's, uhm, k-kind of surreal? Like, there are humans everywhere, but monsters, uh, b-basically nowhere.

We have monsters in stories and legends, but they mostly serve as cautionary tales. You're much more delightful than the creatures I've read in my youth. [She smiles at her.]

Have you been doing science long?

[Delightful. She used the word delightful.

Ohhhhhhhmygoddddddddddd]

Well, uhm, I mean, I went to school for, uh, a really l-long time for it, er, I mean, I guess it's been more than 10 years since I started c-college! And then there was the masters, a-and Ph.D study, and then everything in the lab, so uh, y-yeah! It's been, uhm, most of my life, really, but, uh, there's always a l-lot to learn! And everything.

[She's sort of nervously bumping her little claws together to try and fill space, making a tiny clicking noise every time they connect. It's probably the only thing keeping her grounded right now and not, idk, rocketing into space just by the force of her blush.]

[Pharah watches Aphys for a moment, wondering what all the claw-clicking and excited stammering meant, and eventually paused to drop down to her knee and place a hand on the monster's shoulder.]

Is everything alright? You seem a little, flustered?

[They did just meet, and she doesn't precisely know if there is really something wrong or if this is just her natural habits. Still, she had quite a shack up earlier.]

[Oh jeez, she's noticing, she needs to tone this back like woah. She tries to smile a little more reassuringly, gripping her hands together. It still looks nervous.]

Oh, uh, y-yes, it's fine! I uh, I mean, I have a s-stutter, it's not a nervous, uhm, thing. I just, uh, everything's been pretty overwhelming today, and uh, I mean, I'm glad to meet you! It's not, uhm, y-your fault or anything, I'm just uh. Thinking about a lot and uh, all that.

[She's always like this, Fareeha. It's okay. She's a disaster.]

It has been a day. [She gives Alphys's shoulder a pat.

[Fareeha smiles and stands again, adjusting her rocket launcher.] Let's get you back home.

O-Okay. Uhm. Thank you.

[Gosh, okay. She can do that. At least Pharah's cool about it.]
