Event Log: Fadeout

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Fadeout event!
Where: All around the city
When: November 15th-November 25th
Warnings: None!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

In Hope's temple, Emily waits out the initial shock of being revived. It's no better than the first time. (Okay, maybe it is, because she's not naked, and she's not next to a naked Josh. But beyond that? No better.) What happened slowly comes back to her: a demon, possession, the knowledge of what that woman with the glowing hand and that man with the mustache (you know the one) said about the things.

She knows, even though she can't remember it, that she did a lot of damage. She might even have killed someone, maybe one of her friends.

It's a few long minutes before Emily starts back towards the house, less because she really wants to face everyone and more because it's weird, being in Hope's temple for so long. He's treated her pretty well, all things considered, but it's still just... weird.

The house is in pretty rough shape, after-- how long has it been? A few days, is what Hope says it takes for him to put people back together. Jesus, how much damage did she do here? Everywhere she looks, there's something broken or burnt.

Burnt? Oh-- right. You know magic, Em. You're good at glyphcrafting.

If she hadn't learned that skill, could this have been avoided? Maybe not, but she convinces herself it's possible. Convinces herself, without even trying, that she fucked up again, fucked up because she thinks she's so smart and so good at this or that thing.

(And if this is what the furniture looks like, what about her friends? What about Matt?)

Telling herself to keep breathing evenly, she heads further inside, past the living room and into the kitchen, where she sees--

"Sam."

The rest of what Emily wants to say stays stuck in her throat: Did I hurt you?

Sam startles at the sound of her voice, dropping a half-full glass of water in the sink. "Shit," she mutters under her breath, cringing at the sound of shattering glass. At least it's contained in the sink. She can deal with it later. Right now, there's something more important. Sam turns around to face Emily, mouth pressed into a worried line that looks like it wants to be a smile but just can't bring itself to form as such.

"Em. Thank god." Sam approaches her, arms out to pull her into a hug if she's willing.

Emily lets Sam hug her, even returns the gesture. Sam is warm and safe and alive, but so is Emily, and she was dead only a few minutes ago.

"What day is it?"

It's better to ask that, when she pulls away, than any of the things she should ask. It's easier, and she's less afraid of the answer.
sedula: (something is wrong)

"It's - I don't know, it's been a few days." How do they even keep track of time here? Sam still hasn't figured it out entirely. She can mark the days by the rising and setting of the artificial sun, but without a calendar, a schedule of classes and activities, a list of days with names she can recognize, the days seem to blur together, like an endless vacation without an end in sight. Sam's eyes close as she lightly rubs a hand over Emily's shoulder.

"I was gone for a while, I don't know how long, but you've been gone for a few days longer."

"Shit." It's almost a whisper. Goddamn. She's been gone for days. The house is still a mess. Her friends--

Shit.

"I don't remember what happened."
sedula: (i can't explain)

That's probably for the better. Sam presses her mouth into a tight frown, mentally weighing the pros and cons of telling Emily what happened, and how much to tell her. After a long few moments of consideration, Sam decides that Emily has probably been through enough. Maybe she doesn't need all the gritty details.

"It's OK," she lies. "It's not important. You're back now."

But see, that just makes Emily suspicious. Now she has to know, or else she'll come up with far too many possibilities.

"It's not okay." Her voice is still flat and sort of hollow, but there's a bit of light in her eyes. A bit of anger, which is better than fear. Angee keeps her moving, where fear would just paralyze her. "It's important. What happened."
