Event Log: Fadeout

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Fadeout event!
Where: All around the city
When: November 15th-November 25th
Warnings: None!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

[What better help in the fight against despair than a woman who's used to inspiring hope in even the most jaded of fighters?

Faith shoots an orb of fire the size of a beachball at the demon poised to attack Ahsoka, running top speed at her all the same.]

'Ey, wake up! Snap out of it! [She comes to a stop in front of Ahsoka, another ball of fire already formed in her hand.] It's a liar, come on! You and I, we've got this!

[ fireballs? that's new.

she's briefly, horrifically, reminded of flamethrowers on mandalore- as many warriors against her as with her, a teenager playing at general while the galaxy crashes down around her, an order for her own men to shoot her on sight. it isn't something ahsoka's thought about in a long time, but the despair demon seems to latch onto to thought, if only for a second.

it's a liar. right, she has to fight this, has to help the stranger with the fire in her hands. she rotates the grip she has on her mainhand lightsaber, twirling it at her side before she brings it up, holding it parallel to the ground at chest height. her expression still doesn't seem entirely battle ready, but she gives faith a nod, anyway. ]

Right. Following your lead.

[ for all she can usually lead herself, for all she prefers that, guidance right now would be good. ]

[Good, she's back, or close to it. Faith has no problem leading, is used to leading. She falls into that mindset right away, her boundless optimism fading into the background, channeled into the power that makes her eyes glow.]

All right. [She grips the fire tighter, nodding.] On we go!

[She flings the fireball at the demon, then leaps into the air, embers dripping from her fingertips. (She's showing off, absolutely, because a little flair adds to the fun.]

[ unnecessarily showy combat is something ahsoka can get behind. it's familiar enough that it helps, even, and before she needs any more prompting, ahsoka darts forward in a blur of white blades. the demon is mostly preoccupied with the fire situation, leaving opportunity for someone fast enough to get around and attack from behind. thankfully, ahsoka is that fast, even when she's mostly relying on muscle memory to keep her moving.

both of her lightsabers come down hard against the demon's back, not doing as much damage as she might have to something less magic-buffed, but still making the creature reel. she leaps back, out of the way as it turns on her. if she and faith can stay opposite each other like this, the demon will have to work to divide its attention between the two of them. and that'll make this an easier fight. she hopes. ]

Gee, now I think he's bit off more than he can chew.

[Oh now this is fun. Someone new to fall into pace with in battle. Ahsoka is quick and intelligent and lethal, exactly the kind of person Faith would want by her side in battle.

As she comes down from her jump, Faith aims a kick at the back of the demon's head, then pushes herself back and lands gracefully on her feet.]

Dance with me, demon.

[Her tone is playful and dangerous. She twirls, gathering fire in both her hands, and throws one at the demon's feet, the other at his neck. She can take a lot more damage than Ahsoka, so she's absolutely fine being the distraction.]

[ now that she's more in the moment, ahsoka can afford to properly impressed by her new battlemate as they take their turns. she's never seen anyone fight quite like this and while living here has made her accustomed to people from radically different universes than her own, watching how everyone else fights can be a treat.

she doesn't waste much time watching, though, taking advantage of the fire to get closer for another attack. the joys of melee combat. her tactic with most of these demons has been getting rid of their limbs first, slowing them down so they can gesture less of their magical attacks her way and that's what she's aiming for here- both lightsabers sweeping up from the same direction, ensuring that even if one misses when the demon reaches an arm out to counter faith's attack, the second will slice it off.

and as the limb hits the ground, faith might just hear ahsoka's sarcastic, "oops." ]

[Oooh, Faith likes Ahsoka's style. The attack gives her an opening. While the demon reels in pain, Faith shoots fire at its shins, scorching the skin until muscle starts to burn. No one can ever fully heal from a phoenix's fire, so even if it has accelerated healing, it will be debilitated, the scars repairing only skin, and not very well at that.

The demon screeches, stumbles back.]

Go for its head!

[ that's an order that's easy to respond to and while ahsoka had stepped back to shield herself from faith's fiery attack, she doesn't mind getting in closer to do what needs to be done. she crosses her arms as she raises her lightsabers in front of her, forming an x with the demon's neck at the centre. the demon doesn't have time to react before ahsoka's jerking her arms back, both blades slicing through the monster's neck, for good measure.

both body and head keep her attention as they drop to the ground, the togruta watching them with narrowed eyes, waiting for some sign that the fight isn't over even as the demon's body seems to wilt away. ]

[That's really satisfying to watch. For good measure, Faith lobs a small fireball at the demon's body. It'll burn from head to foot and stay there as a warning to the others.

Looking at Ahsoka over the flames, Faith grins.]

You're feelin' better now, yeh?

Yeah. [ she lets out a breath, thumbing her lightsabers off so that the blades disappear with a little buzzing sound before she hangs the hilts on her hip armour. ]

Thanks for the help. I kinda froze up there.

[Faith shakes her head, smiling, and waves the apology away.]

Wasn't your fault. They're nasty monsters. Wasn't any trouble comin' in to help. I'm happy to.

[She nods towards the hilts of the lightsabers.] Swords made out of light? Never seen anything like that before!

[ yep, ahsoka likes this woman. she feels like a kindred spirit, right down to what ahsoka herself would say to someone in her shoes. it's... nice, actually, to find someone to do to her what she'd usually do to others. sure, she's not going to make a habit of needing help, but no one ever does, do they? ]

I get that a lot, actually. Lightsabers aren't terribly common at home, either. They're only crafted by people with... certain innate skills. You're just as likely to slice your arm off with it otherwise.

Skills? [Color Faith interested!] Like powers?

[She knows a little about that!]

I guess. [ it's all a matter of perspective. ahsoka gives a half shrug. ]

We call it the Force. It's everywhere, it connects everything, but not everyone is sensitive to it. Those of us that are can use it to do things other people might not be able to. No fireballs, but I can throw someone across the room without touching them, if I have to, so I guess that's something.

[ this also accounts for just how fast she moves, how keen she seems to be when it comes to getting out of the way just in time. it comes in handy. ]

Can non-sensitive people be taught to sense it? [She's genuinely curious.] Where I'm from, you're either born with abilities or not. Yours seems different.

[And cool.

Wait for it.]

And cool.

You can't be taught how to sense the Force, but without teaching, a person probably wouldn't know how to use it. I was fortunate, I was taken in by an order of Force users when I was small and I learned many things about to sense and use the Force to the best of my abilities.

[ and taught how to fight and kill people by the time she was a teenager, but it was all in the name of peacekeeping. in retrospect, maybe not so fortunate after all. ]

[Faith follows along, nodding. That sounds a little bit like how it felt to grow up superhuman, a phoenix.]

Could be dangerous if you don't know how to use a power. I learned a little on me own, but it wasn't til I got found by other like me that I really got my powers to a higher level.

[ ahsoka nods in understanding. unchecked force powers tend to be underwhelming instead of dangerous, but someone powerful and without guidance could still be a disaster. ]

Are powers like yours common where you come from? Does everyone with abilities have them manifest the same way yours do?

Mm... not like mine specifically. Mine are rare. [The word that best applies is 'legendary' -- which is also a word Faith doesn't like to use to describe them.] But superhumans aren't uncommon, no. You know pretty much since they're born what powers a child will have, so adults can help kids out.

[Faith didn't have a phoenix mentor because phoenixes are in very short supply, so there was that one time she burnt down the shed by accident. Oops.]

Have you met Kate? She's a superhuman too.

I haven't, no. But I bet she's interesting, too. [ hadriel never seems to run out of interesting people, honestly. there's always another one. ]

We can usually tell where a Force sensitive child's skills might lie when they're young, too, but we don't have a word as to-the-point as superhuman for it.

She's the best.

[Fact!

...okay, opinion. Still!]

Huh. Wonder who even started callin' us that. [Faith shrugs.] Anyway, I think we should get moving. I'll stick with you for a bit if you like. I'm just keen to kill more o' these bastards before they get anyone else.

[ ahsoka nods - acknowledgement of all parts. kate is someone she'll keep an eye out for another time. any questions on superhumans she can keep until they have downtime. but fighting and keeping everyone else safe is what matters now. ]

I wouldn't mind the company, if you want to tag-team a few more.

[ just to make sure none of them can drag her down again, too. the last thing she needs is to be consumed by despair right now. she has things to do, people to protect. ]

Wouldn't've offered if I'd mind. [Faith winks.

But without another word, she motions down the street with her head, starting in that direction when Ahsoka begins to move. Time to kick demon arse with her new friend!]
