What: The event log for the Fadeout event!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

[For all its bulk, the large demon is light on its feet- or on Kain's feet, rather. It's taken the best of the both of their fighting strengths. This dragoon was built to be able to jump and evade, and the demon makes full use of that now, leaping and flipping around to avoid as many of the bolts as it can. Even still, a couple of them strike him. He growls. It's not enough to stop it yet, but is definitely enough to agitate him further.]

[Enraged now, the demon sends a rush of powerful whirlwinds at Shadow, using Kain's Cyclone attack. He follows with a Massive Attack, leaping in closer to send his mighty fist slamming toward the hedgehog.]

[Seeing that he has the advantage just further pushes the demon controlling Kain into action. He's all too encouraged by this. A few more attacks ought to finish this. The demon jumps, then, making use of another of Kain's powers. As he comes soaring down, he's already shooting down fire blasts toward the hedgehog, raining it ruthlessly down from above. He himself descends swiftly afterward, with his lance aiming to try and impale Shadow.]

[The demon is getting far too full of itself, seeing that it's got the upper hand and that it has its enemy almost beaten. Shadow is just a target to him, something to be brought down and destroyed. The darker part of Kain deep down inside agrees, too, for now... there's no sense in fighting now when he has no choice, no ability to stop the demon.]

[So the demon starts out satisfied, when it sees its attacks striking Shadow full on. He'll be the one to end this, and it's almost done. But when Shadow manages to leap upward, everything suddenly goes all to hell. Sure, he can feel his weapon jabbing through its target. Yet that moment is short lived when the explosion suddenly hits.]

[The energy blasts right into the demon possessing Kain. To Kain, it's a horrifying and painful moment as the whole world bursts into brightness everywhere. Together, the both of them scream as they plummet toward the ground for a heavy landing.]

[The energy blast took a lot out of the demon, clearly, and the landing on the ground didn't help. It attempts to move away, giving a groan of pain that sounds eerily almost-human for a moment. It's futile, as the hedgehog's got him tight in his grasp. The creature is surprisingly strong for someone so small! As he goes flying, the demon collapses into a heap on the ground for a moment.]

[Inside, somewhere buried deep down, Kain wishes he could scream out his pain. All he wants is to regain control, but he knows that's no longer possible. He has only one hope. One disturbing hope. The pain coursing throughout the demon's body tells him that this hope of his is near.]

[It's dying. They're dying, both he and the demon who's claimed him.]

[Though the demon does make one more attempt to attack. It gets weakly up, shambling over toward Shadow, clawed hand swiping toward him one last time... and then he collapses once more, the motion too much for him. It'll be only a matter of time now. Please, let this end.]

[Rage fuels the demon in this last, desperate charge toward Shadow... but it's all in vain. The demon doesn't expect much of anything from Shadow at this point, seeing how he appears to be weakened as well. Little does it realize what's coming for it. Before it can manage another attack, the world around it bursts into blinding, burning energy. As those crystals jab into the demon, it howls in pain, a disturbing sound since there's also something of the human in there alongside the demon's voice...]

[It's really over this time. The demon takes a couple of unsteady steps and then collapses. Kain feels its pain fully, in complete agony... there's nothing he can do about it now. He's going to die, and then... and then what? Will he wake up in some new world? Will he even wake up again at all? He's not so sure he wants to, after what he'd become. Right now, he's ready to embrace the oblivion of death. It's all he has to look forward to. He struggles, trying to speak. He wants... he actually wishes he could thank Shadow for freeing him...]
