Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

let the suffering commence

Henry.

[The double thought this part out carefully. It would have been preferable to make a statement, let Henry suffer a little before executing him, but the Empire demands practicality before spectacle. After all, Henry Percy is a capable fighter and his Nemesis Shield a true threat. Thus he must be dispatched quickly and with great care.

Best to be quick about it. He'll smell the blood soon enough.

The double stands by the door, pistol in hand. She picked it up from the armory before the others raided it. The original Maketh - traitor - has taken to touting her lover's rifle, a weapon wholly unsuited for close-range executions. No, a pistol will do for this.

Besides, it allows Henry a moment to see the face of his executioner.

The double has the pistol in hand, when he turns to her. She smiles. Finishes screwing on the silencer. It's only a small gesture. There will still be a bang.]

I wanted you to see this.

[A shame he won't see more. The double keeps on smiling. Then, quite calmly, shoots him twice in the head.

Best to be thorough, after all.]

[When he turns to face "Maketh", he thinks nothing of her adding a part to the gun she carries. Her words even pique his curiosity, an irony given how they are destined to haunt him. She has his full attention.

It's laughably obvious that as she initially raises her weapon, he does not put the two together. "Maketh" raising the pistol. "Maketh" aiming it at him. It is at odds with everything that he knows and believes.

His moment of realisation is clear: a sudden widening of his eyes, the pain of betrayal unrestrained in his expression. He tries to take a step closer and raise a hand towards her, beseech her, still hoping--]

Sis--

[--but they are all cut short as she shoots twice.

Henry staggers and then slumps, crashing to the floor. He is dead before he knows it. The loud clatter of his armour hitting the stone with his full weight behind it carries through the building.]

[Down, down he goes. No fuss at all. The double lowers the pistol and smiles. A shame he didn't get to see his co-conspirator stuck to the wall before he died.

The double tips her head to the side.]

This is just what happens, you know.

[The real Maketh makes a noise not unlike a sob.]

Don't be like that. You knew it was going to happen. You did this to him. Really, this whole thing is your fault.

[The double glances down at Henry's body and sighs.]

Why don't you take some time to think it over, hmm? Reflect on your actions. Your Empire is very disappointed in you.
