Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

► This log covers January 16th-January 25th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your evil clone happens to take you out, please let us know here, and remember that you will not revive until the event is over.

Firo's not used to talking his way out of anything. Right about now would be when he'd try to bait the person accusing him, get them to throw a punch so that they could fight. But he's pretty sure instigating a fight with Sato wouldn't go too well--not for Firo.

He narrows his eyes and shrugs one shoulder. "I can't tell you what to think. I can tell you that I couldn't do anything about your escape--I had no idea what happened to you. You think they'd tell me what they did with you?"

It's a not-so-subtle way to try to remind Sato that they're on the same side. Firo's a problem for the Guard, too, remember?

Firo lets his right hand drop to his side; it's still relaxed, but from here he can be ready to move. He's afraid he may have to be.

Satwo doesn't seem interested in a fight right now either. It would be fun, but that's not the point here. The point is to ruin everything.

"Maybe not. That's just one more point against you, though, if you couldn't find out. You aren't nearly as useful as I hoped you'd be," he says, without a hint of malice or... much of anything, really.

"Useful?" Firo squints, looking like he wants to scoff at that idea. But to do so would be dishonest. It's true that the idea of being useful to Sato was never really palatable to him, but he can't deny that it had been what he was going for. It had seemed like the best way to make sure that, if Sato ever got really dangerous, Firo's family could be protected somehow.

He doesn't have to feign offense when he next speaks, "Hey, pal, I did what you asked me to do, didn't I? If you wanted me to run all over the place looking to break you outta jail, you shoulda' said something from the start."

"Perhaps you should have actually thought, and realized that's what I would have wanted. Stupid, and no loyalty to a fellow immortal.

"Ah, well, I say immortal, but it really is an inferior kind of immortality if all it takes to disable you is to cut off your head." Satwo continues, in the same mild tone. The original, if he ever went this route, would probably ham it up, get Firo good and mad for a fun fight. But again, that's not the goal here. If he can convince Firo that Sato doesn't care about him at all, even as an ally, that's more than good enough.

"Come off it. You're acting like you paid me--I did you a favor. Don't blame this on me."

It's the second part that really gets his hackles up. 'Inferior' by itself is about enough to make Firo want to slug Sato, and he clenches both fists as he tries to hold back. "So? You needed me to make you come back--so I'd say that puts us about even for what we can do as immortals."

Is insulting his immortality supposed to be some kind of threat? It was a long time ago, but Firo still remembers the time Sato did cut off his head. There wasn't any warning then, Sato's tone and expression just as mild as they are now.

"Where the hell's all this coming from?"

Satwo shrugs, with nothing in particular to share on that particular question.

"Just figured I should let you know that I'm not interested in your help any more. Might as well keep it from getting too awkward in the future. I'm not about to head down to the bar with you, for instance."

And on that note he turns his back to Firo and keeps heading the way he'd been going originally.

"Wh--?" Firo takes a step forward to march after Sato, one arm outstretched to grab for him. But he pauses mid-step.

This could be bad. This could be really bad. But Firo supposes that right now lack of interest is the best he can hope for for himself and his family. He lets his arm fall to his side, just barely holding back from yelling after the departing figure.
