Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

What would you say, then, if I asked you what you need most from your subordinates?

[ Not a sucking-up-to-the-boss question, but a genuine request for information that might help him chart his own course in this organization. ]

[The double smiles, pleased by his initiative.]

I would say loyalty and decisiveness are needed most of all. We need guardsmen who will do what needs to be done. It seems you understand.

[ He smiles back. Loyalty and decisiveness are the hallmarks of the Fëanorian tribe. Not that these qualities have always been put to work in such constructive ways as now, but hey, nobody's perfect! ]

Speaking of which, if you can think of anything that needs to be done that hasn't been seen to, please let me know. I do use my own initiative, but it is always good to keep in touch with those who set the goals of the Guard.

[This one, the double thinks, will certainly be useful. She will need loyal fighters when the time comes. Inevitably some of them will want to avenge their traitorous leaders.]

[A little flattery can be useful from time to time. The double considers him.]

Hmm. I wonder, sir, if you would consider serving in a...slightly different manner? For the good of all the people here, of course.

[The double smiles, warm and seemingly sincere.]

You're doubtless aware we've had problems with...well. Dissatisfied members of the community. Some of them believe we would best be served by reverting to anarchy and other such violent philosophies. I can only speculate on what possesses them to believe such things, but nonetheless, they do. Someone will have to watch for things like that. Dangerous talk. You understand, sir, don't you?

[ Flattery can be useful! And since Curufin doesn't know Maketh well enough to detect any subtle differences other than the contempt for the paperwork system, he still thinks this is just Maketh on an exceptionally crabby day. ]

You want me to listen to what people say, and then report the anarchists?

I have heard that there was a group who attacked HQ a month ago. [ And the only reason Curufin wasn't a witness was because he was blowing up buildings at the time. Demolition work is noisy. It interferes with listening to network traffic or being a witness to things that are happening half a mile away. ] Are those the sorts of people you are talking about?

Precisely. [Good, he understands. The double leans in a little closer. Look how much she trusts him.] We don't want that to happen again. A lot of people could have been hurt!

[ Oh, that trusting body language! Should a manager or a commanding officer trust a subordinate this much? It's not the common situation. No indeedy. ]

No, we don't. We don't want Guard personnel hurt, nor innocent bystanders, nor any other citizen of Hadriel.

Tell me, was this group of anarchists defeated?

He was. [The double sighs, shaking her head.] Not without effort on our part, and a considerable amount of luck. I don't want it to happen again.

[ Oh, the sincerity. ]

Who was it? -- if I may ask.

[The double pauses, then smiles.]

A man named Sato. We dealt with him. But he had help. More sympathizers who didn't show their faces. Of course we can't let them gain more footing. The civilians must be protected.

Is he still alive?

[ Hadriel being a most peculiar place! Who knows whether people who are dead stay dead? Curufin has heard odd rumors. But first of all, information about what the Guard do when a malefactor falls into their hands. In battle, of course they'd kill such a person. ]

Ah, so you don't actually know who was with him? [ That explains the request for spy services. ]

Yes. [The double sighs.] Unfortunately, nothing stays dead here for very long. But he was dealt with.

[A point was made.]

I have suspicions. But I would rather you went it with an open mind, in case I am wrong.

Then if all the troublemakers are resurrected, that makes your job a bit more complicated, I should think!

[ But killing somebody definitely makes a point! ]

And I certainly will keep an open mind. [ Of course, he hasn't actually said that he will report anybody he suspects of anarchy. He's too much of an anarchist himself, despite the significant re-orientation of his life in the direction of human relationships as more valuable than power. But it won't hurt to keep his ears open. Knowledge of the community you live in is never amiss. ]

Anything else I should know?

You're quite right, sir! [Now if only certain individuals would stay dead, then the double's plans would be that much easier to realize. Alas, she'll have to resort to violence more than once to make her point known. A shame. There will be some blood before the end.

[ Unquestionably there will be blood. Curufin can feel it coming. A Fëanorian has a nose for an approaching bloody struggle. ]
