What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words
Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.
At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.
So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?► This log covers January 16th-January 25th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your evil clone happens to take you out, please let us know here, and remember that you will not revive until the event is over.
"hannah washington" ; ota ; cw for violence
Her double had not considered the mess. She isn't a trained killer. "Hannah" rubs her eyes hurriedly, wipes flecks of blood from her face, tries not to look at the mess that she'd made on her (?) bed. Gingerly, she covers the bloody corpse with a blanket.
She leaves with the intention of never returning to that room.
The city is fraught with opportunity. Hannah's double looks around, wringing her hands, feeling... vulnerable. Feeling list she wishes she hadn't left the murder weapon at the scene, not because of the possibility of drawing suspicion, but because she wants something to defend herself with now. As such, she goes in search of another, of something that she can hold firm in her hands to make herself feel better.
Then, she comes up with a plan. It's half-baked and obvious, really, but it's a direction. It's not good to leave the mind unoccupied and she'd started to feel restless, but now - now, she knows what she has to do. She thinks of Emily and Matt, who are still here, and of the others who had escaped. They got to go back to their nice, warm homes, to their lives. They hadn't suffered at all, but the Washingtons had suffered endlessly.
No more. And... she decides that, at least, the ones who are here can hear all that she has to say. They can answer for the rest.
Hannah's double moves around the city to find them, eyes bright with purpose. ]
pain time
Well, he doesn't expect to, now. And with what going back would mean - the twins dead, Emily as she was before this, everything he's heard that lies in wait for him in the progression of that night - it's dread that lingers in his stomach more and more when he thinks about that.
Monsters? Those he can learn to fight. The future? Not so much.
He turns the corner in his run, having already passed the halfway point, starting to loop back towards the house, when - ) Hey, Hannah.
( He can slow his jog a bit, say hi to a friend, right? )
here comes the pain train
Hey, Matt. [ She had considered playing up the weepy and traumatized angle, telling the others that she'd been attacked by an evil clone... but that seems too tiring right now, and she'd give the game up before long, anyway. Best to just get right into it and be done with them all as soon as possible.
It'll feel nice, she thinks, running her thumb along the handle of the knife in her hand. It'll be good to have this cathartic experience. ]
What're you doing out?
smiles
Hannah. Why do you have a knife? Self-defence, right? Tell him it's self-defence.
He stops his run entirely, glances from the knife to the face of a girl he can only believe to be his friend and stretches his arms above himself, works out the muscles in his legs so they don't ache too much.
Little, instinctive things. )
Went for a run. Were you, uh, making breakfast?
no subject
How would I make breakfast all the way out here? [ She smiles, teasing. ] No, I'm just getting some air.
[ The house smells a little like a butchered body now, after all. ]
Good run?
no subject
Her initial thoughts have her wanting to get out, to get away from this house and her 'friends'. They're not friends - they'd gotten her killed and the double hates them for it. She can't stand them or being anywhere near them, and she wishes that they weren't in this city with her.
It isn't until she spots Hannah that Beth thinks of anything else. Even though Beth and Hannah aren't the closest -- there's more rivalry than the whole 'sibling rivalry' usually goes for, her sister was wrong too, and she's the only one that's allowed to really fuck with her sister )
Hey.
( With all they do to each other together they could definitely create some real trouble )
no subject
Hi. [ How much of an understanding do they have? If Beth lunges, she'll fight back. She has work to do. ] So... are we okay?
[ It might be a lie, and she'll still keep on her guard, but... maybe they can be forthright with each other. That would be nice. ]
no subject
Did you see them?
( There's a bitterness to her tone, one that might not have been there if she'd only been talking to Hannah, if she hadn't realised that their 'friends' were there with them )
no subject
[ She'd seen Hannah, obviously, before she'd murdered her. ]
Matt and Emily?
no subject
( She didn't even care about her other self, not as much as those two. Her other self was just a weak thing who'd let herself be killed -- Matt and Emily were there when it happened. Emily had gotten Hannah killed, and Matt did nothing to stop it. Now they got to be happy together when all the twins had were bitter memories )
We should say hi.
( 'Hi' )
no subject
[ That had been her plan all along; all the better if her 'sister' wanted to join in. ]
I think it's way past time we tell them how we feel.
[ About being let down so, so completely. ]
no subject
( Because jumping right in is fun, or dragging it out. Although- )
We should take our time - make them feel betrayed.
( Like they were )
no subject
[ And they don't deserve to feel better. Not at all. ]
They should have to face everything we did.
no subject
( Because god, what bullshit that was, that having the twins around made them feel better instead of worse each day? )
Death is too good.
no subject
The copy is stone-faced, unreadable. ]
Maybe we can find our own cliff. [ She states darkly. ] See how they land.
no subject
( They're in murder cave, it wouldn't be difficult )
It'd work.
( Simple and no mess. Well, no mess on them -- falling would be plenty messy )
no subject
[ She has no qualms with how they do it, if it inspires fear. ]
Ready?
