Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

[AM had somehow missed this very clear artificial being since he first arrived here. He has to do a double-take when he watches a thing smashing plants by an empty house.

While AM himself may look human, the gait he carries is not entirely natural, as he still is getting accustomed to this body. He stiffly moves a little closer to the being, mouth slightly open, eyes slightly wide. The master of tact, this is what he ends up uttering:]

What are you?

(They're an obnoxious brat, obviously. They continue to crush a hapless plant beneath their foot even as they look up at this intruder.)

"Wow! Your world must be REALLY primitive if you can't even recognize such a basic technology!" (They grin at him, gleeful and mocking.) "Well... I'm not going to tell you!" (Still smiling, they give AM the finger.)

[AM squints at the thing as it mocks him. Primitive? How dare this thing mock him so!

But perhaps he blends in well if he comes across as a "primitive" human. But why does he get this primitive human body and not a more useful robotic body?

The anger on AM's face reflects these thoughts as the robot insults him.]

I know you're an artificial intelligence. I was asking for specifics as to what you were designed for, you fool.

(And now they appear to be pissed too. Jerk.

Though admittedly, offending him WAS the goal.)

"Well I'm not telling you that either."

[godofthemachine]

[Wow. So much for being useful. So much for getting any information. AM makes some sort of growl of irritation in response.]

And why not?

[turingmachine]

"Have you considered maybe I don't have a purpose? Or perhaps my purpose is to antagonize people who ask invasive questions?"

(Their real purpose, is, of course, to make things terrible for their double, but they're definitely not telling him that.)

[AM knows that that's not the thing's purpose. No human would give a robot such a purpose... Or maybe they would. An insane eccentric might do such a thing.]

Hmph.

[He folds his arms. He's just about done with this stupid robot.]

A useless purpose indeed. You shouldn't even exist.

[turingmachine]

"Well it's a good thing I don't exist for your sake."

(This guy can go fuck himself, as far as they're concerned.)

"Now if you'll excuse me..." (They move to pick up another potted plant...)

[godofthemachine]

[AM will remember this robot. He will remember them well.

He huffs and walks away, letting the thing throw more plants.]

(Jokes on him, because they won't be around much longer! The original Turing will, though, which is all that's important. Hopefully, this will come around to bite said original right in the ass.)
