Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

( Matt is not the type of guy to hang out in libraries. Sure, he visits them from time to time when there's schoolwork to be done, when projects need finishing and there's no other alternative but to hit the books in order to not fail the class completely.

But today he's just let his feet take him wherever they want, and they've led him here. It takes a total of three different books - of flicking through in confusion and placing them back - before he realises that way too much of this place is in languages he doesn't understand, ones he's never even seen before.

The last book he picks up just does not want to get back in its place, too many books jammed into one shelf, and he fights with it until Adam's voice cuts through the creaks of the shelf. )

- Hey, man. Sorry. I just- ( He holds up the book with one hand and an apologetic shrug. )

[He recognizes Matt, who's never been anything but decent to him, but - that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Not right now. For all he knows this could be Evil Matt, and he could have kicked dozens of puppies before coming to the library.

So Adam keeps his distance, wary. Still, he doesn't want to be rude.]

Sorry - you startled me.

[He holds out a hand for the book.]

We can probably put that in over here. I don't think these are in any kind of order.

( It's a good job there aren't dozens of puppies here. Dozens of nugs, maybe. But still, Matt is Matt. He's scarpered, escaped, the touch of the gods this time and come out in tact.

At least, he's come out alive. With his own reputation in order.

(No one really comes out in tact from these events, do they? He's learned this already.) )

Yeah. Uh. ( He hands it over, glances between the two shelves. ) Wonder why they filled that one? ( When there's a far emptier shelf just a few steps away. )

[He means the library, but that statement could just as easily apply to the entire cave. Who needed creepy evil doubles? Nobody. Thanks, gods.

Adam does look at the books before he puts the loose one away, just in case there is any order, but of course there isn't. Just a bunch of books written in unintelligible languages. Once he's put it away, he turns to Matt again.

Matt seems okay. But you never know.]
