Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

[Regular Kain]

[Kain looks really uncomfortable at the sight of that sign. How long did he wander around with it, exactly? How many people saw the truth of what he is? He's still hard on himself about that past, so he very much considers it true. He's a traitor. He sighs, looking downward. But something seems... odd. Why would Rydia have put it all this way?]

I've done nothing wrong, to anyone! I promise you. I've no idea where that sign came from... perhaps it's some prank of the gods.

[Dark Kain]

[He eyes her suspiciously. His worst feelings have always been toward Cecil... but all of their allies are an annoyance in their way, Rydia included.]

Nothing's wrong at all. I don't know what you mean. Perhaps you should stop overreacting so much. [He smirks a little.] Let's just say I'm going to set things right, once and for all.

[you know the drill.]

Oh, please... you're probably so used to do it you didn't even realize you wronged somebody... [she rips the note in small pieces and throws them in the air] Do you really think the Gods would go out of their way just to leave a little stupid note? And only on you?

Come on, Kain, it's not like I don't know what you're capable of... you can be honest with me.

[B verse?]

[Oh, trust her, big boy, Rydia the most annoyed one right now. She frowns, raises her chin and crosses her arms]

Says the one who jumped in front of me and is now acting like I stole his steak. [That's a pretty big deal, ok? I mean, if you're a monster...] And how do you think to do so... exactly?

[dragonsgrasp]

[The normal Kain - if Kains can be normal at all???]

[Kain gasps in surprise. Is Rydia being more abrasive than usual... or is he imagining things? Sure, the woman speaks her mind loud and clear usually, but it's never so cruel. He's a bit concerned that something more is going on here.]

But I am being honest. At least... I don't believe I've wronged anyone... If I did, I either don't remember or I didn't intend to do so. Trust me, when I find out, I'd apologize and find some way to make reparations.

[Backstabber]

[Preparing himself, Kain glares harshly at Rydia.] By getting rid of every last one of you! By destroying his life once and for all...

[He leaps into the air then, soaring high before spinning down to aim his lance straight downward toward her.]

[Because I'm finally strong enough to tag all the things I missed. Anyway- A verse-?]

[More abrasive than usual? Be glad you didn't say this aloud, young man, or she would have found even worse words for you]

Make reparations... Kain, last time I saw you make reparations of sort was when you tried to patch things up with Rosa and Cecil. It ended with them inviting you to their wedding and you running away and making them sad in the most important day of their lives. I mean, if that's how you make amend with others I'm really glad you never actually put any effort in apologizing with me for all the chaos you caused.

[ And here we go with my miserable attempts to write combat-stuff!]

You're kidding me. [Is he insane? Fightning him is one of the last things Rydia wants to do but does she have any chance id his darker side is out again? Maybe she can try to knock him off without hurting the dragoon too much? Maybe she could petrify him for a while? Sadly there's little to no time to decide what to do, Kain is jumping and Rydia knows it's a matter of seconds before he lands on her.] Stop right now!

[For now he simply tries to roll on her side and avoid his attack, if the other doesn't stop she will definitely have to counter somehow.]

[Yay! Also yep, the one where Kain is just Kain]

I had good reason to skip that wedding... I was in the process of making reparations. I went to that mountain for their sake. By defeating my darkness... I always planned to return eventually, once I'd won... [He sighs.] I'm sorry, Rydia, if I've failed to make reparations to you for what I've done... I'm sorry.

[Kain is such an ass]

[Kain comes soaring down, striking out and lashing at the empty air with his lance. He turns abruptly to look at her.]

You think I'll actually listen to the likes of you?

[He attempts to stab at her with the lance.] I loathe his friends almost as much as I loathe him.

[Poor Kain... at least Rydia isn't a violent woman?]

How? Wake up, dragoon, you're only hurting them more while you blabber excuse after excuse just because you're unable to keep it in your pants...[In part, the real Rydia would agree on how stupid it is to 'seek redemption' by isolating yourself- but in her honesty she'd never be so aggressive] Oh, yes, now you apologize. Kain, we may be ally but I will never really forgive you -or Cecil- for making me the last of my species. It doesn't help how you didn't even try before I reminded you 'hey, you know you've been a jerk to many of your comrades... me included? And now Leviathan knows what you've done but trust me, dragoon, if you betrayed someone again don't count on my support or anything because I'm done with your backstabbing attitude!

[And now, with the real Rydia... who isn't half as annoying.]

[Rydia dodges the second blow and raises her hand to cast a bioga- she'd rahter avoid serious injuries on both of them, yet the summoner knows she will have to knock him unconscious or at least distrat him if she wants to protect herself. Too bad she starts with the disadvantage of having to limit her own powers if she doesn't want to hurt him. Tch, stupid sense of comraderie and friendship...]

You will, if you're not an idiot. I know how you fight, Kain, and I know how to avoid your moves... [More or less, she's been lucky so far but...] Stop right there, I don't want to fight you. [A cloud of toxic air raises around her as soon as the spell is casted but the summoner doesn't stop there- if he decides to charge anyway she better be ready with something else.</small]

[Lucky for Kain! He just has to put up with her being mean]

[Kain reddens and gasps in shock when she makes that first remark. No... no one is supposed to... to mention that... By now, unfortunately, everyone seems aware of his feelings for Rosa, but they seem to at least respect him and not mention it. Until now.]

How could you... how could you say these things!? [He looks guilty immediately afterward, bowing his head.] Though you have a right to be angry about what Cecil and I did, I wouldn't blame you for that. If there were anything I could do, any way to make amends... I'll do it. Though perhaps you.... perhaps you're right, to give up on me...

[His expression is becoming even more broody than usual.]

[And the fake Kain who really is the most annoying double ever]

[The spell hits him and Kain makes a disgusted sound, pained and feeling unpleasant, the poisonous effects of the spell starting to affect him at once. He's just as weak against magic in this form as any other. He scowls harshly at her words.]

As if I'm not aware of how you fight as well? You can't withstand my attacks.

[If he manages to strike her, that is. He eyes her closely, before lashing out, this time, spinning his lance to send a Cyclone whirling toward her. As that's happening, he makes a move to stab toward her.]
