What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.
At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.
So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?► This log covers January 16th-January 25th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your evil clone happens to take you out, please let us know here, and remember that you will not revive until the event is over.

[This is definitely not Ushahin, his inner voice no longer holding back, but booming out with all the magnificent and terrible power behind it. He tears into the memories Shadow holds most dear of Maria, the happy times that had come before she died. He also goes after the memories he's formed here, those he cares about, like in the Guard, and his friends. He tears into them with brutal efficiency.
But the most shocking thing is just how much power there is behind his force. There's enough there to drown Shadow like a tidal wave crashing down onto land and obliterating everything in its path. He'll kill the hedgehog before too long. Not yet though. He wants to savor the destruction of one of Ushahin's dearest friends.
All hope is not lost yet. Somewhere else in Hadriel, Ushahin is dying, ever so slowly from the stab wound in his gut. But he feels his double use his powers, lighting up as if he was shining a beacon. There the bastard is. And...he has Shadow. No. Ushahin begins to rally his strength. He'll only have one shot at this. It means leaving Shadow in the clutches of his monstrous double for a few more minutes, but if this works, he'll save both of them.]

[The double tears mercilessly into Shadow, tearing down everything that he is, savoring the sensation as he wishes for death. Very soon now, he'll grant him his request, but not before he has violated every section of Shadow's mind. As he draws up his powers to deliver the death blow, Ushahin, the original one, hears Shadow's plea. Now is the moment he must strike.
The torment inside Shadow's had is abruptly cut off as he erects a shield. It's weak and his double should have no trouble punching through it, but it's not meant to keep him out permanently. It's meant as a distraction to keep his attention off the hedgehog.]
You will not touch him again.
[Sure enough, the double turns his attention back to the original, annoyed and surprised at his resilience and stubbornness in remaining alive.] And what are you going to do about it? You're so close to death as to be there already.
Not quite. Not yet. [Then Ushahin pours everything he is into his double's mind. Every minute of pain, physical and mental, from over a thousand years. Every nightmare he's ever encountered in the minds of Men, every wicked thought he's heard in their heads, and the suffering of every single one of his madlings. He's never done this to anyone but the monsters here. Even Nick, whom he'd exposed to so much of his pain, hadn't seen it all. The result is instantaneous. With time only for a single cry of pain, the double clutches his head before collapsing to the ground. His eyes remain open, but there is no mistaking it. He's stone cold dead. The whisper of a voice, now on the verge of death, softly speaks in Shadow's mind.]
...Shadow?

I'm sorry I could not find you sooner...I must go now...The horn calls for me...
[Indeed, there is the echo of a horn, sounding like the call of death as it echoes through Ushahin's mind. Oronin Last-Born, shaper of the Were and God of Death, had come for him. Perhaps he'd reached the wayward adopted child of the Were even here. Or maybe Ushahin's mind had conjured up as a small comfort, dying from a gut wound all alone except for the mind of his friend to comfort him.]
...I will come back...Goodbye...
