Event Log: Dead Ringers

What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words
Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.
At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.
So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?► This log covers January 16th-January 25th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your evil clone happens to take you out, please let us know here, and remember that you will not revive until the event is over.

[She takes a second to really sell it, grips her hands together, looks plenty nervous.]
Have you, uh. Have you seen w-what started happening, today? W-With the doubles and everything?
no subject
[Their brow creases; clearly, that's a no. Reflexively, a hand goes into their pocket, pulling out their phone- but it'd be rude, to look at it now. They keep their attention on Alphys, like it should be.]
Um, no. I didn't... what doubles?
no subject
[Like she's about to. What a coincidence!]
I had wanted to uhm, w-warn you, about uh... s-some of the stuff mine might do, and uh, everything, since uhm... well, there's some stuff I should probably explain.
no subject
Their face closes off immediately. Not that it's her fault, of course. It's not her they have to worry about.]
Okay.
[Okay. Little breath, fingers curling into their sleeves. She needs to tell them, and then- then they really have to go. Even if they leave her here, that's okay. She'll understand.]
Um- maybe, fast?
no subject
Now all she needs to do is pull the string.]
That's f-fine, I just... well, if you're going to run into my double, I wanted you to know about the determination experiments.
[She lets those words weigh heavy for a minute before continuing; but this time, she's standing up a little straighter. Loses a bit of her fearful demeanor.]
See, Asgore gave m-me the human SOULs to try and, uhm, b-break the barrier, so I decided to try and give monster SOULs the same staying power as humans. That way, we wouldn't need human SOULs. So I built a machine to take their Determination. And then I injected it into m-monsters.
[She is, specifically, looking as unremorseful as she can here; even, almost, mad-sciency with how excited she seems to be getting.]
But as it turns out, Determination needs a stronger SOUL to h-handle! So... they lost their physical bodies. They melted together, into amalgamates. Nothing better than animals.
[She's advancing on them now. Frisk may not know Alphys well, but they should probably have gotten the hint they may have found her double before they found her.]
I lied, to e-everyone. And locked them in the basement of my lab. And left them. T-To die. But it's not so bad here, now that they're gone.
[She's standing over them now, the light on her glasses obscuring her eyes behind them.]
At least I know where to get more determination, d-don't I?
1/2
She knows precisely what to say to ensure their attention is on her, and her alone. It's the word, really- one that they've heard plenty of times. Gotta stay that way. Got a little something called...
That's the trick, though.
Only two people ever use it.
Their hand goes straight to their chest, and the more she says, the tighter they grip the fabric. They know
All of those SOULs. They know them. Wouldn't be here without them. And she's so excited about it. I built a machine to take their Determination. That's all they are. A line. It makes it pretty easy, to intimidate them. One step backwards for every step forward she takes, as she speaks about human SOULs like they're an afterthought. As she speaks of her own people as- something horrid. Nothing better than animals.
So perhaps it's surprising, when they draw their knife.
Or perhaps it isn't.]
no subject
Doesn't matter.]
I'm sorry.
But you have to leave now.
[She needs to go. She needs to leave this apartment, and she needs to not come back.
Because if they ever see her near Chara again, alone, with this look on her face- they might
They'll kill her.]
no subject
What a surprise. Or maybe not.]
And there it is. Only w-willing to stand up for yourself if someone else is on the line, hm?
You're not even afraid I'd hurt you, are you?
[Her words are smooth, and bitter- nothing like the facade she was playing at before.]
But you are afraid. Of what I c-can do. Of everything Alphys could do.
[Don't forget, Frisk. She might leave.
Alphys is here for much, much longer.]
no subject
[They reject the notion immediately; that they're scared of her. That they're afraid of what she could do. There's very few things in the world that are really terrifying; but they think the one that scares them right now is what they could do, if their hand is forced. If holding a knife turns into using it, because there's only one outcome, at the end of that.
Someone gets hurt. Someone dies.
Their fault again.]
Don't want anything to have to happen.
...Like Mettaton.
no subject
[Not so fantastic now, are you Frisk? But she's sure she doesn't have to tell them that.]
She truly doesn't blame you, you know. She thinks it's entirely her f-fault. And she always will.
no subject
Even so, it's hard to be afraid of what Alphys would think, when they're already certain she's scared of it. Just like Sans. Just like Asriel.]
Then I'll tell her she's wrong. Just like you're wrong.
[Because that's the difference right now, isn't it?
Alphys wouldn't do this.]
You have to leave now.
Don't come back.
no subject
Remember how much you have the p-potential to hurt. This exists within her, as well.
[She turns to go, before looking back over her shoulder, smug.]
Don't forget that she will hurt you.
[And she disappears, out the door, and back out to the city at large.]
