Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

[And there's the million dollar question, isn't it? She stops, almost abruptly, and turns her head back towards them, her glasses catching the light as her eyes disappear behind the glint.]

Well, the Determination Experiments, o-of course.

[Without missing a beat, she turns to face them directly, and all pretenses are dropped; her features are replaced only with a cruel, unyeilding smile.]

I took the souls from Asgore and extracted Determination from all of them... and put them into monsters. I was testing to see if monster souls could p-persist after death... but as it turns out, Determination needs physicality to work! And monsters, well, they aren't all t-that physical.

So... they melted together. All of them, into new beings. New creatures. Screaming as their bodies fused together and t-they lost themselves.

[She's advancing on them now. Backing them into a corner. All the while, still smiling.]

And you know what? I never told anyone. I locked them in a basement and l-left them to die.

[She advances and Chara backs up. Eventually they hit the wall and raise the Real Knife. They should have listened to their instincts a long time ago.

They can't really hide the shock on their face either. After meeting Sans's double they were far to tired to keep up appearances. Not broken, never broken. Just tired.

But the...'Determination Experiments'...? Chara had never heard about that over all of their runs. They knew Asgore had been collecting the SOULS to break the Barrier, that Frisk was the last one needed. And, obviously, they know Alphys was the Royal Scientist for a reason.

....no. They did not know about that.]

Do you intend to do the same here?

[There's no point in asking if this was Alphys's double. If she had done such a thing, you'd think she'd keep it on the down-low. So it was obvious at this point. Be more practical.]

[kairotic]

[She seems completely unfazed by their threat, giving a casual shrug and a sly smile in response.]

I suppose I could. After all, you've g-got plenty of determination to spare, don't you? And there are plenty of monsters here to test on.

[Come at her scrublord she's ripped]

[Ever heard about why poking a sleeping bear is a bad idea? Chara glares at her with a slightly unhinged smile.]

Fine.

[They start to walk forward, the Real Knife glittering with its usual brand of red magic. Better have a Plan B double Alphys because Chara is fine with killing you.

What's a little more LOVE by this point?]

[Ooh. A fighter. Well, she won't give up just yet. She sidesteps, just a bit. Reaches into her pocket, and brings out a fist.]

Now now, s-slow down there.

[Still holding onto the top of the chain, the heart of the Locket falls down, just out of their grasp.]

That's not the only thing I have up my sleeve.

[As the double hoped, they stop dead in their tracks. Chara doesn't put away the Real Knife but after a pause they take a step back.

She had the Locket. So that means...Sans's double handed it off. Or she picked it off of his dust if someone managed to kill him. It didn't matter.]

What do you want?

[She has only one chance to make a sales pitch. After that, they'll go after her again.]

[kairotic]

[She smiles again, and her eyes lock on the Knife.]

Drop it. I have no interest in g-getting into an altercation with you.

[Aka, she has no interest in getting stabbed.]

[Strangely enough Chara's own smile hasn't really waved, although they do pause at her demand. And then...

The Knife clatters to the ground. They even kick it away a little because obviously she'll ask that next. But there's one thing that hopefully Alphys's double remembers.

Chara didn't start with the Real Knife, they worked their way up to it. But they just need to wait.]

Then you are. Does it feel good to have a defenseless child at your mercy? And yes, I am aware of the irony of me asking that.

[kairotic]

[She laughs at their remark, but it's bitter and joyless.]

Yes, you, defenseless. I am n-not so dense as to assume that of you. Even in death, you are dangerous. But I am sure I'm not the f-first person to tell you that.

[Still dragging everything into death, even as a spirit! But you know that, don't you Chara?]

And honestly, what do you honestly t-think I'm going to do to you? Are you scared?

Do I look scared of someone like you?

[Chara has gone up against someone who was far, far more dangerous than a double of Alphys could hope to be. They stared at a Monster who was LV 20, looked at themselves from the prospective of someone facing that down.

You don't scare them Alphys. You never will.]

Whatever you plan on doing, make it quick and make it count. Otherwise you will not survive.

[That's the only warning Chara will get from her. She has one chance.

Don't waste it.]

[The fact that Chara frames it as a 'chance' is already plenty enticing. They're curious. They want to see what she'll do.

But she knows this move, too. Studying her. Waiting for an opening. So she slips the locket a little further away from them, but still visible, so they know what's at stake here.]

Tell me how you have k-knowledge of multiple timelines. How you and Frisk seem to understand multiple concurrent events.

[Smart, but it's Alphys so they shouldn't be surprised. Either by her moving the Locket away a little bit or her question.

Chara bites back a sarcastic response.]

The Resets. If you have seen something once then you've seen it twice.

[And she's smart. Figure out the rest yourself.]

[kairotic]

[Resets. Determination. Breaking into the insides of the world, and reshaping it to their will.

She always knew there was something more to that ability. If only she had a real human to experiment on.

But there won't be time for that- not for her. She just neds to put the fear into their hearts that the real Alphys will.]

So you have experienced t-them all. Not just simply heresay.

[If they're paying attention, they might see her eyes dart to her escape route, just once. Yeah, she's not intending on giving that Locket back, Chara. Might be a *FIGHT.]

[Chara catches her sneaking a peek towards the exit. Of course she would make sure there was a way out. Smart girl.

But if she thinks she's getting away with the Locket, Alphys's double has another thing coming.]

Yes. Like the ones when Undyne meets her end. I'll show you.

[So? Want to see what a SAVE looks like? Better stick around after all.]

[kairotic]

Mm.

[It's a noncommittal little noise, but this double knows when she's not getting anything else. So...]

I'd r-rather not.

[And she just turns and outright bolts for it.]

[Nice try.

Chara doesn't go for their knife first and instead immediately takes off after her. And after dealing with the Undying and Sans, they are fast.

And all they need to do is catch a bit of her coat. After that, unless she lets go of the Locket, Chara will not let go either.

So, what's it going to be?]

[Damnit. She was sure they'd go back for that, and they're too quick for her to get straight out, so she digs her heel into the ground and tries to swing them on their own speed into the nearest wall. She has no intention of getting into a real *FIGHT here, but she'll do what she has to to make it own on top here.]

L-Let go you little gremlin--!

[somuchlove]

[They do skid a little but ultimately their grip remains firm. Chara's much like those flowers - once they've gotten a hold of you, they're never letting go.

Not unless Alphys's double lets go first.]

I don't think so. You have something of mine.

[There's her hint about what to give up if she wants to get away. Just let go of the Locket and they'll be on their way.

If not...? Well, Chara has no problem picking it out of her dust.]

[kairotic]

[Uuuuugh. This little demon.]

It's not yours if I h-have it, you whelp. Let go before I have to kill you myself.

I would love to see you try. Go on, enact revenge for Undyne and Mettaton. Try and pick out their dust from my hands. But I know you won't, you coward.

[They're not going to let go until Alphys hands over the Locket. And she likely knows the dangers of entering close combat with Chara.

So....is Alphys's double willing to stick around for a fight? Or will she give into their words?]
