"Yeah, ah." He pauses a moment, trying to think of how to explain them to someone who might be completely unfamiliar with magic. Given how many of the city's captives seem to be, it's easier to assume that's the case rather than the alternative.
"They were an idea she came up with, actually," he continues with a gesture, as though feeling out the shape of these trinkets in his mind's eye. "Small items, knickknacks and whatnot, that could mend wounds using the energy contained therein rather than any magical ability from the person using them. They allowed even those with no latent talent of any sort to heal themselves in a pinch."
