Intro Log: Bird Brains

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-16th
Warnings: Harpies, newbies, oddities!

You wake up on the floor of an old and crumbling structure, with nothing but open air between you and the odd cave ceiling far above you. Unfortunately, this means that you're in Hadriel, a lovely cave city with lovely inhabitants- some of whom you'll probably be meeting in a few minutes! Around you are others who have woken up at roughly the same time as you, who are probably just as confused as you are- but you might want to team up with them, because there are dark shapes lurking ominously above you...

These dark shapes just so happen to be harpies, half-bird, half-women monsters who definitely have more emphasis on the 'monster'- you'll find no beautiful women here, unless you're into razor sharp claws and teeth that hunger for human flesh. Maybe that's your thing!

Alongside you on the ground are also a strange assortment of finger puppets, some of which may have faces that look like yours! What a novelty gift!

After you've got a puppet on each finger, you're free to start heading outside!. Once you find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers June 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Time moves like clockwork, inviting new faces with questions and curiosities. Rey has since become inured to these events, and the frequent oddballs and their varied origins.

What she hadn't been prepared for was encountering a somewhat vaguely familiar yet alien figure, distracted by some finger puppets that have come from god-knows-where. She's seen them riddled throughout the place, but that isn't what concerns her right now.

Her head spins. Fractured images of her fatigued memory flashes across her mind, bearing visions of similar cladded figures lurking in the shadows of the sky prison's water system from her brief return trip to her own world. Lack of sleep and malnutrition back then could have resulted in her delirious senses playing tricks on her, until that creature from the deep dark had lunged at her. Pinned, head submerged. She tries to breathe but sucks in black water into her lungs and she can't breathe can't breathe have to kill it grab its helmet it has no eyes how can it see--

Rey blinks, frozen where she stands. Not realizing that she's now hot to the touch, red veins pulsing from under the skin covering her entire body; radiating heat. Hands on fire.

If she has to fight this thing, she will. Because what sort of normal person would go walking around like that? They wouldn't.

Of course, people have their reasons here. But her thoughts are jumbled, words caught in her throat. It's not possible, she'd think, if not for the fact that the Door can bring in monsters for the tunnels as easily as it summons people for the city.

Extrasensory perception was a bitch.

It was both a blessing and a curse. The pros being that it made sneaking up on Eleanor almost an impossible task, however, she was always alert because of it. This had a tendency to make one kind of paranoid. The world Eleanor dwelled from, there was always something lurking around the corner, just waiting to jump out and attack. Always.

The Harpie had been a new and rather exciting installment of Eleanor's mental journal entry; 'Things that have tried to kill me' So she was already on high alert. It was the sensation of eyes fixed on her that first alerted Eleanor to the idea that something was about to happen. Dropping the finger puppets on the cracked and chipped step she was sat upon, using a stone to scratch and carve a message (out of habit more than anything else) I'll find you. It read, this time, the message was for her Little Sisters, if any were around. More importantly, the message was rushed, due to the menacing intention she could feel in the air.

Coming to a stand, the rusted metal of her diving suit-armour creaked and cried out, like the hull of an old, heavy ship, as the joints suffered from years of sea salt and water damage. Turning that lumbering diving helmet of her around and around, searching the area, trying to focus on the mixed emotions she could feel, like a broken microwave that still ran, the heat and intentions radiating out, dangerous and harmful.

Eleanor crouched down slightly, drawing back the arm her harpoon gun was mounted on, scraping the tip of that vulgar needle out to the side and behind her, carving through the ground with a sound that was capable of making you wince or cringe depending.

Ah! There! Just over there! What seemed to be a woman? Yes, it looked like a lone female, just standing there, seemingly in shock, staring with lost eyes. There was something about her, something that had Eleanor's heckles up. The hairs on the back of her neck all stood to rise in anticipation. She couldn't help it, it was an automatic defense- the light in her port light window flickering from yellow to a warning of red.

Between the hostile stance and the figure brandishing a weapon, Rey is not brimmed with much confidence that this is going to end well. Hell, it's barely started well.

In the other's defense, it doesn't help that Rey bears a rather aggressive disposition herself, coupled with the heat rippling from her flesh; red veins glowing. Her vision flickers as a whitish third lid blinks across her eyes as the heat intensifies. Both her survivor and fighter's instincts kick her adrenaline into overdrive. Not a single one tells her to run away, but towards.

Her legs kick into a run. Feet pounding over the concrete as waves of heat ripple in her wake.

Water splashes around her. The drowned figure with the concave face behind the glass of the diving suit holds her down. Around her neck. Air leaving her lungs. Punch. Kick.

Burn. Stench of cooked flesh and thick material melt around her fingers -- and it burns, burns, burns...

She lunges, offering no breath to reason with the creature. They can't be reasoned with. They can only die.

Well then, isn't this just exciting? Only been here a few moments and already some ADAM deprived Splicer is trying its luck with her? Of course, she had to be a Splicer, there was no other explanation!

Her veins ran red with Incinerate! You could see it through the skin, the way the flame flickered in her palm. She clearly still had some left in her system, but was looking at Eleanor for some more?! Disgusting things, Splicers. The things they do to get their fix. Unspeakable!

Without any hesitation of her own, Eleanor pounced right back at the woman- Only, Eleanor had a few gene alterations of her own. In a flash of movement, she bent her knees and leaped incredibly high! Landing on the wall of the cave, just behind the Splicer, stuck there like a spider, in the most unnatural stance. A whip of metal and the zoom of rope could be heard passing the Splicer's face, that harpoon gun of her's firing out and impaling into the wall before her enemy before she yanked it back with hopes of clothes lining the woman as they ran.

Her next line of attack was the plasmid blast of telekinetic energy, short head on at her opponent. The ball of energy emitted from her palm surrounded Rey in seconds, holding her still and in the position she was currently in. It took a lot of might to keep her like that, she was damn strong. ]

"You'll get no ADAM from me! Now learn your place!"

Calling out in an angered voice, slightly muffled behind the huge lumbering domed helmet.

The manner in which this thing moves is different from the freakish, similarly garbed things Rey had encountered in the waterways of the sky prison. It's more agile. Swift.

And those things sure as hell could not crawl across walls... that she was aware of.

They also weren't capable of generating bursts of energy, rendering Rey immobile. It speaks, too--

Wait, no. Not 'it'. She? It's hard to tell through the ringing in her own ears and the red flashing across her vision. The red veins dull under her skin, still hot to the touch but no longer sweltering and giving off waves of heat from her body.

She just gaps at the creature, talking to her. Those things at the prison didn't talk, either. And the mention of ADAM brings Rey back to a few hours ago, when she had met a certain sweatered man in one of the local shops...

Two in one day. It can't be a coincidence.

"You fucking talk?" Rey blurts, finding that she can at least voice her bewilderment while the rest of her remains immobile.

How queer. This Splicer was clearly off its head! Asking such a question. "Of corse I can talk! How many EVE hypos have you had? Just look at you, the plasmids still in your veins and even then all you can think of is ADAM!!"

She was furious. She knew that to be that pumped up on plasmids, she had to have harvested a Little Sister or two. The EVE hypos that were sold from the vending machines would never last long enough to keep it up as much as this one had.

Actually, now that she looks at the woman, Eleanor has to wonder. "Just what kind of Splicer are you? No mask. No deformities that I can see." Sure, there were some visible scars but no tumors or abnormalities.

The use of 'ADAM' as something instead of a someone isn't the only thing that strikes Rey familiar. Splicer -- that's another thing that weird guy eating all the food at the shop was going on about. What did he say that city he came from was called...?

"Am not one of those things! Looks like we're not even from the same world..." It's hard to be relieved by that when you can barely move a muscle, and have barely an inkling as to what this girl is going on about.

At least this creature isn't one of the freak experiments from Concord.

If Eleanor knew there were others from Rapture here, as well as learning this was in fact, not a part of Rapture itself? She would be a tad worried. The manner of terrible things that lurked in the underwater dystopia was not supposed to exist on the surface world. Too many abominations to mention, including herself.

"What do you mean by that? Tell me more." Easing on the Telekinesis, Eleanor let the strange woman fall out of her plasmids grip. She had full control of it, of course, so the fact she threw the women back a few paces was just her way of keeping a safe distance between them.

"You said you're not one of those things... So you've proven to me you already know what a Splicer is. So then tell me, why should I not believe you're from Rapture too, and this is a ruse, a trick, an ambush in waiting?" Ever cautious, ever curious.

Under normal circumstances, Rey would have rather leave it to someone else to divulge the whole preface that comes with this place. But then, it isn't like Rey to just attack newcomers, and it didn't help that Elenore bore an uncanny similarity to an abomination from her own neck of the woods.

It should be a relief to find that she was in the wrong, but now all Rey can register is a tad of embarrassment. She shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that. But with the usual creatures that enter through the same Door as every other arrival and the gods' frequent influence, many things have come a little too close to home.

Rey stumbles as she's thrown back by the invisible force, but is quick to catch her equilibrium than to fall. She squints up at the figure, oddly feminine in form and tone, as it speaks.

"Because," Rey huffs. "There was some guy asking about them as well. Said they were 'ADAM addicts' where he's from. We don't have anything to give you those types of abilities back home."

Though she could demonstrate, what little she saw of Jack's display was somewhat reminiscent to her own Brísingamen.

Eleanor was an abomination no matter her destination. There was no place in the surface for her, and yet she longed to see it, to be a part of that world. As far as first impressions go, this could have been a lot smoother, Eleanor party blames herself for that too. Her quick reflexes, her unnerving demeanor and that extrasensory perception of hers. No, she was feeling a little rude herself, in having shown such violence to the stranger.

Now that they both seemed to have calmed a little, the air was clear and the threat of a fight had faded, Eleanor huffed out a heavy sigh. She felt up behind her head and started to unlatch and twist the catch that attached the huge domed helmet to the neck of her diving suit. A labored breath, due to the weight of the thing, and a slow push and Eleanor's head was free. She was a pale girl, with dark brunette almost black hair, slick and damp. She looked like she'd never seen the light of day before, which wasn't so far off really. There was an odd aroma about her too, sea salt and rubber?

Holding the helmet at her side, shaking her head, the damp hair sticking to her face in places. "So I'm not alone after all?... I don't know if that's a good thing or troublesome. Anyway, thank you for not burning me to a crisp back then and... And well, I'm sorry if I harmed you in any way." She held out her hand, the gesture suggesting she wished to shake hands. "Eleanor Lamb."

Eleanor sports a familiar complexion, not much unlike the soldiers Rey had met in the AUC, who had spent so long in the underground city. In a way, Hadriel was similar, though bordering more on the fantastical than anything she had seen back home. More empowered by otherworldly entities than science.

Still, it comes as a relief that the figure under that mask is a girl, and not one of the warped faces Rey had encountered in the sky prison. Drowned faces that somehow kept living, defying all logic and reason.

If this Eleanor had been anything like them, she wouldn't have stopped to chat. It's enough, at least, for her to lower her guard a little, knowing that the girl likely comes from a different place entirely.

"No worries, am pretty resilient," she says with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Name's Rey. And... apologies, as well."
