INTRO LOG: BLACK CATS & WALKING UNDER LADDERS

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for February.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: February 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, creepy moving shadows, terrible luck, the screams of your loved ones.

Welcome to Hadriel, new friends. While waking up on the ground of a broken colosseum may not be the most pleasant arrival, you can at least find comfort in the fact that there's no giant monster immediately attempting to eat you. Plenty of the people already here will tell you that they weren't quite so lucky. But - wait. Is that something moving in the shadows, or is it just your imagination?

Of course it's not just your imagination. That would be way too easy. No, arriving along with everyone this time are wraiths, vengeful spirits that enjoy darkness, shadows, and misery. On the plus side, they won't try to kill you. On the minus side, their touch chills you and saps your energy, as well as inflicting a temporary curse of awful luck. Anything that can go wrong, will, including (and especially) things that might kill you. Wraiths are subtle and sneaky, so be sure to watch your back. That shadow isn't just a shadow.

Compounding the confusion the wraiths can cause, you just might wake up to the sound of chattering voices - only to be quite alone. A small flock of jabberjays has come through the Door as well. These genetically engineered birds are capable of mimicking entire human voices and conversations - as well as screams of terror and pain. Initially only in the arena and bringing only conversations from their world, they'll soon settle throughout the city and begin to learn the voices of those living in Hadriel. Your best friend screaming bloody murder just a street over? It could be them, or it could just be one of these lovely birds. Don't let it stress you out.

Once you've escaped the colosseum, hopefully without accidentally impaling yourself on your own weapon, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers February 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

He didn't see her at the colosseum, but somehow Dorian is much less surprised than he expected to see her now. He approaches with no fanfare (besides, of course, the fanfare that comes with his mere presence), and for a moment simply watches her throwing rocks. Until a thought occurs to him.

"Sera, where in the world has your bow gone?"

Because people arriving here suddenly isn't so surprising, but Sera without her bow? That is a shock.

After meeting up with Rainier in the colosseum, Sera (probably) knows to expect the others, so she's not completely surprised when Dorian approaches. In fact, she doesn't even stop throwing rocks or so much as spare him a glance.

"It's not gone anywhere. I'm the one who's gone," she snaps. "It's at Skyhold, innit? Like we should be. Funny, I wasn't thinking 'Oh, better bring this just in case I get sucked into ... into wherever' when I went to the Corephecus feast. Shows what I know. It never stops being weird. Ever."

Ah. That last rock almost hits the bird, spurring yet another horrific scream.

"See? Weird."

"Yes, you really ought to have thought ahead. 'What will I do if I get sucked into a strange cave prison where things might try to kill me? I'd really best bring my bow.' I'm disappointed you didn't plan for that."

He watches the attempted bird murder, quietly approving. He's roasted a couple himself already. They're awful things.

"I suppose we could find another for you at the armory. It might be nice to have for the inevitable monsters that will try to eat you."

Because that's pretty much a foregone conclusion.

"Nice to see you, by the way."

"I don't want another," Sera grumbles as she chucks another rock. This one comes so close to knocking the bird's head off but falls just short, whizzing a millimeter past it instead. "Mine is fine. It's good."

Her bow back at Skyhold is a lovely ornate thing and she had scoffed at it originally. Why did it need to be pretty, she had asked. Pretty doesn't matter when you're in the thick of a fight. Pretty doesn't hurt people (except in Orlais probably but that's neither here nor there). It turned out to be just as deadly as it is nice to look at, the best bow she's ever owned.

She's really regretting not bringing it to the feast with her.

"You say 'nice to see you' like you didn't see me an hour ago," she adds. She's run out of rocks and the stupid bird's still sat there like some stupid .... thing. Whatever. She sighs, wiping her palms on the hem of her shirt as she turns to face Dorian. "You were there. At Skyhold. Don't talk like you weren't."

"I was there, yes." Dorian sees no reason to deny that, even if the actual truth is a little different. And somewhat difficult to explain, and this is Sera, so she probably won't really listen to an explanation anyway. Not that that means Dorian isn't going to try.

"But it was a bit more than an hour ago for me. I would say more along the lines of... hmm. Five months, give or take?" Has it really been that long? Dorian is rather shocked to tally up the weeks and get to that amount. Maybe it's the constant monsters and terror, but it really hasn't felt that long. Or maybe it's felt much longer.

Oh well. "Time does odd things when you come through that door. For you it was an hour ago, for me it was much longer. You'll find it's the same for the others."
