You wake up to find a mirror at your bedside - a pretty nice one, too, a silver hand mirror perfect for fixing your hair in. Only when you try to do that, it's not your gorgeous reflection that you see. It's something else - a terrible future, just about as bad as anything you could imagine for yourself.
Maybe you see your loved ones dead on the ground, and you know it's your fault. Maybe you see the goal you've been working so hard for pulled out of your reach forever. Maybe you see someone you've hurt in the past ruining your life. Maybe you see your hot girlfriend leaving you to shack up with your worst enemy. Whatever you see, it really sucks, and you know that it's possible. This future could happen if you make the wrong choices, give in to your worst impulses.
Break the mirror if you want, but you'll see the same vision in any reflective surface in the city. You can't break them all, but you can sure try. And what will you do when you see your best friend's vision - and it features you betraying them?
Seek reassurance, give reassurance, lash out, vow to yourself that you'll never let it turn out that way, sink into the depths of sorrow because you feel like the future you see is inevitable. Whatever you do, it won't take away those visions - not until the event is over.► This log covers August 23rd-September 5th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you can't handle the idea of your dark future, or maybe you just accidentally slip and fall on a mirror shard, let us know here.
Cole | OTA
Thankfully that doesn't rule out more traditional hiding places--and he can get to quite a few of them--but after a few moments he gets antsy again and moves to a new one, speaking softly to himself under his breath, nonsense that has to be comforting on some level, even if it doesn't seem to be doing much. He still looks awful which is saying something because he doesn't exactly look wonderful at the best of times.
He just hopes that no one sees him right now. He couldn't help anyone if he tried.]

Lup's spent most of her time curled up under the covers with her twin, letting him cling to her in his worry, trying to reassure him that she wasn't leaving, that not even this place and it's shitty gods could rip her apart from him again. It makes Lup hate Hadriel all the more, for putting her brother through all of this, his pain and frantic concern weighing so much more heavily on her heart than her own. But life keeps going, even if their reflections keep showing them hell, and eventually someone has to go out and pick up supplies, to restock their pantry. Someone has to make sure they're all eating through this, even if her own appetite has dipped considerably since the start of the week.
So the elf is out and about when she catches sight of Cole mumbling to himself, looking a little manic. Considering her own reflection has disappeared completely, it means her appearance isn't quite up to her usual standard, long hair thrown back in a messy braid, mascara just slightly smudged under her eyes.] Hey, you alright, kid? Lemme guess, reflecting a little too much on your reflection?

He doesn't even bother coming back down to speak to her. He's perfectly comfortable sitting on the ledge and he doesn't give any indication that he's afraid of falling. He doesn't even answer the question at first, instead going with something obvious that shouldn't have been.]
You can see me. [Understandable, really, if he thinks about it. He can barely think straight, let alone make himself disappear. He shouldn't have to think about it, though. Maybe something else happened too. Did it? He can't remember.]
Maybe. It's...wrong. Pictures of pictures of places, backward and broken and bleak. They shouldn't be there.
no subject
Sure can. [Considering Lup had only just been screaming at strangers to notice her a few days earlier, she can't judge him for being unsure of whether he's really been seen or not. It's been a rough time.] Wrong seems like the right word, but whatever is going on, you gotta keep in mind that it isn't real. This place is just trying to fuck with you in a major way.

It still hurts. Too close, too clear. I don't want it.

[It doesn't fix anything, but it helps to some degree, keeps her from losing it when the feeling of being forgotten hits her just a little too hard.]

It's...it's dark and drowning, dying and done, binding in blood and unbreaking. I can't, I can't! I should forget, why can't I forget?

Lup's met hundreds of people, lived through more than most elves four times her age have, but she's also spent the last forty-seven years with the same six people. And while five were a little difficult to become accustomed to at first, in time, they all became close friends and she was able to add five more people into her social circle. But it took time to learn their ways, and Cole is so strikingly different than all of them, it throws Lup for a loop, the woman not certain what to say or do to his strangeness. Does she offer comfort? Try and give him a little rough love to knock him out of this? She doesn't have a clue.]
Hey, [instead of reaching for him, Lup's arms cross at her chest, brows furrowed. Honestly, she's half tempted to call Merle for help. He's better at this shit than her.] Chill out. Just, uh, breathe. Freaking out won't help either of us.
no subject
Did you see it too?
no subject
He's right, of course. Some people are seeing their worst fears of the future, and some, like Lup herself, are seeing what the actual future holds. She's already been told what happens, the future where she disappears without a trace, leaving only a small note with 'Back Soon' written on it. And that was the last time she was ever seen. Ten years later, she's still gone, no trace of her remaining. Like a ghost. ]
Yeah, but it's different. Everyone sees their own thing. Whatever you're seeing is like, specific to you. [and because she's nosy...] What are you seeing?
ack sorry or the delay I was busy being a puppy pillow
np literally the best excuse
So prove that you're strong enough to withstand it. You aren't a demon, so show 'em! Spite is the best motivator. Stand up tall and kick your fucking demons in the nuts.
8D;;
No. There aren't any nuts. [He definitely has no clue what she means by that so he's taking it literally.] Why would kicking them help?
no subject
Nevermind, forget that part. The rest is still totally valid, though.

Just standing up and, uh-- [she lost her train of thought ok] You know. Fighting the good fight.

Right. Hey, you seem to be feeling better already, kid, so I'm gonna go. Like, now. This is me. Exit stage left.
