It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.
Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!
Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?
Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
outside;
But just as she's leaving the colosseum, Lup spies an unfamiliar, scaly face seemingly making camp right here with some spectacular kind of furniture. Huh.]
Y'know, I'm all for camping out in the great outdoors, but there are a few more scenic areas that-a way. [She thrusts a thumb over her shoulder in the direction of the lake, which is at least a little less awkward a place to drag furniture to than right outside the colosseum.] Might have a bit more privacy there. Also, just bee-tee-dubs, there's plenty of real housing open if you need a place to crash. I'd invite you over to our place, but our dog is still in the teething stage. And by teething, I mean tearing up our couch, one chunk at a time.

Nah, I'm good riiight here. Feels more like home than some lake does.
[She stretches out on her trashbed, arms behind her head, 2 kool 4 skool.]
I'd take you up on that offer, but, uh, I don't know you. Thanks, though.
no subject
[She watches Carey lay back and stretch, like it's the most comfortable bed she's ever found, and Lup can't help but grin while watching her. What's with all of the dragonborn being so tiny and adorable in this place?] Fair enough, I wouldn't trust me either.

[She sits upright again, then motions for Lup to take a seat next to her.]
...Buuut it doesn't have to be like that. Let's get to know each other.
[This weird trusting someone you wouldn't normally trust because they're also non-human feeling? It's mutual.]

[hint hint
The offer for Lup to join her isn't quite what the elf had been expecting, but who is she to turn down the chance for socializing? It's been a pretty good day, as far as they can be in Hadriel anyway, so why the hell not? She joins Carey on her trash couch, bouncing a little to test the feel of the furniture before she's relaxing, throwing an arm over the back of the couch. She gets comfortable fast.]
So, I'm Lup. Did you already get the whole Hadriel spiel? Cause I'm pretty tapped out on it today, much rather do the whole get to know each other thing.
no subject
Uh, kind of? I pretty much get that it's a hellscape controlled by a bunch of fickle demigods or... something. [She shrugs like it's no big deal.] Pretty much everything I need to know, right?
no subject
Yeah, that's basically the gist of it all. We're trapped in this shitty cave while the turbo-liches running the show work to suck us dry. But, y'know, could be worse. [Things could always be worse!] So, what's your deal? Lemme take a peek into Carey's headspace.
no subject
My, my, uh, [she stammers through nervous laughter,] my headspace. Yeah, sure.
[She always becomes guarded when people pick her brain, especially when she knows she's vulnerable. Carey chooses her words carefully.]
I fend for myself. I can live on my own. Which explains the lovely trash furniture. But - I wanna know about you. What are you about?
[Deflection! Classic.]
no subject
You know, for being literal trash, it's pretty cozy. I'll give you that. [The rest of her answer is kind of shit, but it's a tactic Lup is all too familiar with. Talking about herself has never been an issue, as long as she avoids subjects that are too personal, but she's pretty much the queen of dancing around things she doesn't want to talk about. Socializing is her thing.]Well, I enjoy long walks on the beach, deep conversation, and getting up early to watch the sunrise.
Alternatively, I also love setting shit on fire.

I love setting shit on fire.
[It might not be necessary to explain, considering she is... you know... a dragon, but it's the perfect opportunity to show off her skills. After angling her head just far enough away from Lup, she lets blast a thin stream of blue flame.
It's telling, ironically, that Lup's answer was just as vague as Carey's was. They both dodged the hell out of saying anything even remotely personal. She can tell right off the bat that Lup's got some trust issues, too, and she can sympathize with that. And—actually?—it kind of makes Lup seem more trustworthy, in her eyes.
Playfully, Carey knocks her elbow on Lup's arm.]
Lup, I think you an' me are gonna get along just fine.
no subject
Carey's eyes light up in a way that is all too familiar to the elf before she's tipping her head back and fucking blowing fire straight out of her mouth. It takes all of Lup's barely patched together survival instincts to not reach out and put her hand in it, instead she just wiggles in place as her eyes go wide, completely unable to temper her excitement down. She'd been going for suave and cool, but know she's just left a little in awe.
Sure, the way she handled fire was fucking sick, but there's just something amazing about breathing out fire on your foes. God, dragonboard are awesome.]
Holy shit, that's cool. Like, fucking wow.
[Carey knocks Lup's arm so she playfully gets her back.] Couldn't agree more, sis. I have a feeling we're gonna blow the rest of the city away.
no subject
[Check that shit out, Carey's making a friend! And she thinks she might even be able to tolerate being friends with Lup!]
Speaking of—I haven't seen the rest of the city. Like, at all. What's goin' on up in this little town?
no subject
Alright, number one thing to know is that the assholes in charge are going to try and fuck with you. They throw these events, that's what I've heard them called, to try and provoke specific emotions out of us so they can suck them right up. Turbo-liches, basically.
no subject
What kind of events are we talkin'? Like, worse than those bugs I just fought off?
no subject
[It's not that empty. Lup's pretty set on kicking ass. And they've gotten a little more info on how to do it now.]
If only it was that easy. I'd take bug stomping anytime over their crap. No, it's way more abstract than that. A week ago we all saw weird shit in our reflections, the month before they implanted these fake memories in our heads, trying to get us to believe we'd lived here our whole lives.
no subject
That's some nasty stuff. But, hey—if you ever round up a search-and-destroy party to go after these guys, count me in! I wanna stomp on some turbo-liches!
no subject
You'll be the first one I call, Carey. No doubt about that. Honestly, only seeing as much as I have, the two of us could probably take 'em all on our own. But, y'know, the boys'll probably cry if we don't leave a piece or two for them.
