It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.
Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!
Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?
Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. [Hayden should, perhaps, be more concerned about the fact that he has woken up along with a bunch of other strangers in an unfamiliar place. But as he sits up, he doesn't really pay the new surroundings much mind. He seems more focused on the bugs. They are very large bugs!]

[The beetle does not respond and he seems a little discouraged, so he fishes out a wad of crumbs from his pockets and spreads them out in a nice circle around him. Feast, new friends, feast! The crumbs of miscellaneous nature do not seem to be what the beetle wants to eat, but hey, now more are coming toward him! This is really exciting!]

Exploring; Spires
[Eventually, Hayden escapes the coliseum. Probably with help. Definitely with help. It's as he's wandering through the different spired areas and marveling at the architecture that it really hits him he has no idea where he is and that, in turn, leads him to the discovery of his phone! Amazing! A technology just for Hayden! He's very captivated with it, which eliminates any immediate panic, but he's also holding it completely wrong. When he sees someone, he'll leap in front of them and lift the phone up to their face. It has the Newbie Guide up--somehow, he managed to find it without knowing what he was doing.]
Excuse me, please, I require an assist! [He raises his voice a bit too loudly.] I can't read, thank you!
Exploring; Orchard
[An attempt at using his ability to teleport has him crashing his way across the map and falling out of the sky into a try. Hayden screams the whole way down, of course, as he appears out of a swirling vortex in the middle of the air. That, combined with the shaking of the branches as leaves and some fruit are scattered to the ground below, is quite the noise. He can be found, now, clinging upside-down to a branch like a cat that doesn't know how to get down and also shaking.
He'll get much more excited when he realizes there are things to eat.]

[ He slid along, weaving his legs around the menacing mandibles that so dearly wanted to chomp his legs to bits. Eventually he stopped near Hayden and held his long arms above the kids head. ]

[the last thing Margaery remembers is green fire erupting from the floor and the feel of her brother's hand in hers. after that, nothing.
when she wakes, she finds herself flat on her stomach on the ground, surrounded by beetles in every direction. she pushes herself up so that she's holding most of her weight with her arms and with her lower body still on the ground and she can't help herself

[after getting out of the colosseum and expressing her gratitude to whomever was kind enough to rescue her, she finds herself wandering through the shops. she's hungry, her dress is ruined, and she's just generally disoriented. this place is nothing like the Red Keep. though, she has a determined look on her face as she sorts through the clothing on offer. surely she can find something appropriate for her station?
so far, she's not having much luck. she's amassed a small pile of already rejected clothing on the ground by her, just big enough to trip over if you're not paying attention to your surroundings]

James Tucker | Open and Closed Prompts!
[Fucking really? Okay, this has gotta be like, the fifth time Tucker has found himself suddenly in another plane of existence, and honestly, he's kind of sick of it. Whose ass do they have to kick this time? And where the hell is his team? He wakes up in some kind of weird arena thing... This better not be those damn faeries again, he swears to god-
As he's sitting up, something very big with too many appendages runs over his leg. He's on his feet in an instant. Either that was a super ugly dog, or something nasty is going on here. He steps back, nudging another Something with his foot on accident. He turns just in time to pull away as the... giant beetle??? snaps its jaws shut right where his leg just was.
No thanks. Hard pass.
Tucker gives the beetle nearest to him a solid kick and starts jogging in the opposite direction. He tries to ignore the scuttling all around him, but there sure are a lot of gross bugs here, aren't there? He draws his revolver out of his jacket, just in case.
There are other people around, too. Are they enemies? Allies? Civilians? He needs a better read on the situation.]
Hey. [He tries to get the attention of the nearest person.] What the hell's going on here?

[Tucker figures out the phone situation pretty quick, and he also figures out that Kyna's name is in it. Since that's not even a common name where he's from, he's pretty sure it's gotta be That Kyna. He gives her a call.]

[After his arena adventures, Tucker decides to get the lay of the land. Apparently you're allowed to just take whatever the hell you want from the stores around here, so that's something he's planning to test out while he's at it.
You'll probably encounter him inside one of the shops around the city, perusing the items available for looting. There's a good chance he'll hear you coming, but he won't be defensive or anything. On the contrary, he's very approachable.]

[ It is in fact not rare for Atem to wake up disoriented and in a whole different place that he used to be 30 nanoseconds before. It is always unexpected, and in this particular case, incredibly daunting.
This looks nothing like the afterlife he was expecting, where were the faces he saw him smiling and greeting him form afar? Instead he wakes up on the dirt and facing a rather large insect, or two, or three rapidly approaching him. ]

[ Is this Insector Haga's revenge of sorts? He scrambles to his feet, unfortunately tripping on them and it seems the petite young man's luck has abandoned him for good. More fascinated at human life-signs than he was by the insectoid predators 9S scrambled to his feet, quickly unsheathed a blade far too big for his body, and raced to a particularly vicious swarm. With artificial grace he cut through their grotesque exoskeletons like hot steel through ice. Bug corpses as long as his arm dropped to floor with steaming, hot, wet thuds. Dodging, ducking and swatting the insects away until the bulk of their mass had been sliced in two he turned to speak to the human he'd just saved to see her running away in terror.
She must have been scared of the bugs, surely.〉

2. Hot Springs ◍ Post-Arrival
〈Androids didn't really need to bathe. Occasionally they dirtied themselves in combat but they didn't sweat or smell - it was nothing a quick wipe-down wouldn't fix.
However, 9S loved bathing. The feel of the hot water on his skin and the sinking feeling he got sitting in a bath relaxed him. Of course, some would argue that there was no 'relaxation' for an android, that 9S had somehow warped his coding to convince himself that he enjoyed it. He didn't focus on those comments and since the bath house was deserted he had a feeling nobody would call him out on having a quick dip.
With nothing but a towel around his middle 9S walked out to the men's baths, sitting on the edge of the bath he dangled his legs into the hot water, passively humming to himself.〉

The holes in his memory now full to the brim, 100 years worth of experiences weighing on him in a new way, he finally has answers to all his questions. He knows how Lup knew him, how a younger Lucretia knew his name, how Taako went so long without telling them about his sister... Everything makes so much sense now, in a way he never could have imagined.
He has to find Lup and tell her. He has to tell her he finally remembers.
But right now, the huge beetles that have caught him in their sights are starting to look very, very agitated. Magnus pulls out the Chance Lance, opting for range, because he does not want to risk getting swarmed with how many there are.
And that's when he realizes something.]
Oh, fuck! I have all my stuff!
[He whoops triumphantly and throws the ornate minute hand spear directly at a beetle, stopping it in its tracks and skewering it completely. He holds out his hand and the spear stirs, pulling the beetle with it as it flies back into his outstretched palm.
He uses his foot to pull the beetle back off of it, and grins up at the others that now want revenge for their friend.]
Come at me, I gained two levels and I've got a goldfish!
[Sure enough, Steven can be found swimming in his little glass orb, hanging from Magnus' waist like an oversized keychain. No more crying over lost fish.]

The loss of Magnus was a hit that none of his friends could have been prepared for, the giant man's infectious enthusiasm such a constant in Lup's life for the last forty-seven years that his sudden departure just made everything seem dimmer. Feel less warm, less inviting. They'd lost him in the past, sure, due to his own martyr complex and constant need to be a Big Damn Hero, but they'd always known he'd be back at the end of the year, always with the same black eye from their last night on their home planet. Always smiling and ready to try again on whatever plane they ended up on next.
But Magnus disappearing from Hadriel was different. There was no outright guarantee of his return, no promise they'd ever seen him again. He was just gone without a trace and none of them knew for sure if he'd ever come back.
And he'd left his damn dog behind for them to deal with too.
Still, like clockwork, Lup's there when the newcomers arrive, ready to stomp through and light up any beetles that get in her way. The best kind of distraction from the emptiness she felt even walking into their apartment as of late. But she's barely into her first sweep of the arena when she catches sight of an unexpected, but entirely familiar hulking figure tugging his spear free of beetle corpses. Lup's frozen for only the briefest of moments before she's racing forward, hopping over stray beetles to catch up with the figure who could only be Magnus. And okay, it may not be the safest of options considering he's wielding that spear, but Lup launches herself at him anyway, forcing him into the briefest of hugs possible before she's pulling back with a start.]
You asshole! [Lup laughs anyway before aiming a punch at his shoulder, even if his armor probably negates all damage.] I can't believe you fucking ducked out on us for a week. And leaving your stupid dog behind too! I won't get back that time I spent walking her! You owe me, pal.

[ The day starts out perfectly sensible, really.
Philip wakes up in a strange coliseum right in the middle of How's He Supposed To Know Where, as you do, and gets immediately attacked by a swarm of fairly flesh-eating monster beetles. Fairly, he jots down mentally, because he doesn't stick around to find out if maybe they're all just perfectly sweet guys who only want a nibble and to play fetch with some of the garbage lying around here in spades.
He runs to a safe(-er? -ish?) distance, and hides. Checks how many of his supplies he's still got on him, except-- Well. Here is where it gets somewhat alarming. When he goes for his communication device to check if anyone's fessed up to this latest weirdness yet he... finds this. This. This bizarre and utterly outrageous welcome guide, which-- Is exactly like the sort of welcome guide he'd expect people to write, if they hadn't already written a different one, and if it wasn't- if it wasn't for the wrong reality.
Philip frowns. A lot. It's not just a reaction, it takes up at least ten minutes. Deliberately. Intently.
It doesn't, unfortunately, solve any of his present problems or questions. So he skims the guide. Delight's bar, perfect, now that's a good start. Ideally middle and end as well, but he'll take what he can get. He can- sit this out drinking for a few days. He starts walking.
He should have more than skimmed the guide.
Philip kicks the rubble as loudly as he can, a voice to his frustrations where he has none. He picks the piece of debris that best resembles a seat, and sits down. He reads the rest of the guide. He composes a message of his own.

[Matt awakens in complete disorientation. That's not entirely abnormal. He's taken enough blows to the head in his day that being a bit out of it when he first comes around isn't entirely novel. But he doesn't remember being in a fight, and the fact that the suit and tie he's wearing seem pretty unruffled, that probably isn't the explanation.
He stands gingerly, picking up the briefcase and red and white cane that have apparently landed wherever this is with him. His dark glasses are still on his face, obscuring his eyes.
Wherever this is, well, it isn't New York. It isn't anywhere. The sounds, the smells, the feel of the air. It's all wrong, all alien in a way he doesn't know how to process yet.
Then he hears the bugs. For at least a moment he doubts his senses entirely, because what he's hearing, what he can tell is coming his way, is way too big to be real. But it is. And it's not alone.]

[The beetle has decided to be brave and is currently trying to chew on Matt's pant leg, while Matt is trying to back off and shoo the thing off with his cane.]
Bad! Down! Off! [Like he's scolding a dog. It's not working. But it is pissing the thing off, which will likely end badly if no one intervenes.]
[02. "Shopping"]
[Still not quite sure he believes that he's in some alien subterranean city, Matt at least is going to make sure he's ready for whatever the hell it actually is. That means supplies.
He's in and out of shops -- though what he's getting aren't exactly normal. A couple sturdy sticks (courtesy of the armory), a few articles of clothing besides his suit, a black knit ski hat (it's not cold, and yet...).
And now food -- which honestly is proving tricky. For all that his senses compensate for his lack of vision, labels aren't exactly his strong suit. And the tin cans and boxes aren't revealing a great deal more than that. So anyone if he happens to hear someone nearby, they'll be greeted with a sheepish smile and a,] Hi. Sorry... would you mind telling me what this is? I don't want to wind up with a dozen cans of gravy and creamed corn.
[03. Wildcard - Around the City]
[Since it really is beginning to seem like he's not waking up from this weird nightmare any time soon, Matt will spend his days wandering the city, trying to work out a mental map of it in his mind.

[No matter how foolish the choices Rhy makes sometimes are, no matter how many more drinks he has than he should, he normally knows where he'll wake up. He's the prince, after all - even when out enjoying himself, he generally has a guard or two with him, though he endeavours to make it not too terrible for them. So even if he were to drink enough to black out - which is not something he does, as a rule - he could be assured of being lead home safely.
This is not home. This is the hard, cold ground, and he has no idea where he is.
Rhy sits up. No headache, and he can't remember having gone anywhere - just laying down to sleep, and then waking up here. Perhaps some kind of kidnapping attempt? It wouldn't be the first time, but then where are his captors? Until he knows why they've taken him, he can't try to effectively resolve the situation.
But as he looks around, he realizes he isn't the only one here - and he realizes that people aren't the only things here, either.]
Kidnapped by giant beetles? That's a first.
b: the streets
[Now that the giant beetle danger has passed - or rather, Rhy has absented himself from the area - he has a little more time to breathe and try to figure things out. Kidnapped, sure. But from what he can gather, and from the document on the device he's been given, not because of who he is. That's an interesting change, at least.
Rhy doesn't commonly spend much time in caves, so the lack of a sky above is a little disconcerting. He glances up now and then, squinting at the orb of light that isn't quite the sun, scanning the rock ceiling high overhead. Which of course means he's distracted as he walks, which of course means he bumps someone.]

[Given that he's already run into some sort of monsters, even if it was just a bunch of giant bugs, Rhy has come to the obvious conclusion that he needs a weapon. He didn't arrive with any, after all - though he knows others did, he wasn't that lucky. Once he learned of the armory, though, he knew that problem could be easily solved.
So he can be found in Rage's armory, lifting one sword after another, checking its weight and balance. He's used to having things made specifically for him, but with enough searching he should be able to make do. He wouldn't mind a little help, though - or just conversation.]

[The arena again? Fuck. Then it wasn't all some damn dream spawned by the madness he'd been lost in for decades. He should probably not consider the implications of that, but they weren't exactly being subtle about presenting themselves. And besides, if there was something other than whatever Thiede was now that could take him that was pretty goddamn important to now about. Pell was probably pulling his hair out--]
--shit. [Pell. He was here. He could remember that. And he'd just...left him here. Shit shit shit. Would he even want to see him now? After all that? Or had he left too and come back older like he had? He doubted that, but maybe he was just used to taking the pessimistic road by now. Something was always bound to go bad and now it was his job to fix it.
He just had to get through the giant bugs first. Why was there always something else in here? He drew a sword and advanced toward the door, stopped by rather a few of the damn bugs. He sure as hell wasn't going to let that stop him.]
Damn, beasts. You're in my way.
2. Wandering
[Outside the arena, well. Things are more peaceful-they're always more peaceful--but it's still...unsettling. He could still remember most things about the city--even the house he'd shared with Pell and Seel (Seel, really?) and the women. Like it had only been days instead of decades. Hadn't he heard something about that? How people vanished sometimes but came back after a couple of weeks at the most only they remembered more years?
It was hard to believe now that he was living it. But god, had he ever been that young and that hopeful (at least he thought he remembered it that way...?)? With all he'd seen and experienced and knew now it felt like he'd been an old man for his entire life.
He wandered the streets, half avoiding the house, trying to re-learn old paths, find the routes again, not really paying attention to where he was going in particular. Eventually he'd wander back to the house--he knew that--but for a moment he could keep to himself, and savor the dread he was building up.
It wouldn't do to dwell, but he did it anyway.]
1. giant bugs D:
It hadn't been long, he knew that. A few days, at most, but it felt like an eternity. He didn't show up to work and no one called him worried, so he had spent most of his time just lying in bed or curled up by the window, feeling hollow and broken. He'd been in Hadriel alone before. But that was before. BC, before Cal, and before a decision that he was now doubting he should have made. Because Cal had gone home without him when he didn't want to go back at all. What would become of them? Was it the vision in his mirror?
Jo looked after him, at least. Made sure he ate, even shoved him into the bathroom once with orders to shower. Held him close as he cried on her shoulder. Brushed out his hair because he didn't even have the energy for that. Seel poked his head in once but left when he couldn't get any response out of Pell. He was lucky not to get his head bitten off, really. George didn't know what to do with him. No one else seemed to notice or care and that was fine, he'd rather there not be anyone to worry.
This morning, though, Jo had pulled the curtains and tossed back his blankets and declared it time for him to get back out there. It was arrivals day. People needed his help. This was a thing he did, and she'd go with him. He argued at first, albeit weakly, but she wasn't taking no for an answer. And she had a point -- people did usually need help, either escaping or in the aftermath with their injuries.
Okay. He could do this.
He straps on his medical kit and trails after her, hearing the telltale shouts and shuffles of fighting within the colosseum. He's tired... for all that he's been doing nothing, he hasn't been sleeping either. Maybe he should wait outside and heal people as they emerge.
But if he goes in, maybe he could kill a thing or two. That might feel good. So in he goes, and if he's displeased at what he sees, well. No monster of the month is ever pleasant, but eugh. He gathers fire in his palm and hopes the first blast repels them rather than attracts. ]

[ One minute he's in the Director's office with the others, learning that his friends are from another world, none of the relics have actually been destroyed, there's a baby voidfish, Davenport can talk, there's some kind of world-eating horror outside the front door, and basically everything he knows is wrong.
... The next minute, Angus is face-down on the ground, and there's a giant beetle poking at his hair with its mandibles. All in all, this isn't an improvement on the situation, though it is somehow even more confusing. Angus sits up slowly, rubbing his forehead (did he get a concussion? Is he hallucinating?) and scrambles upright the second he's eye to eye with the giant bug. ]
Um...! Oh... ohhhhhmygosh...!
[ Where is he, where's everybody else, is he even on the moonbase anymore? This looks more like a fighting ring crossed with a garbage dump, and OH JEEZ THAT'S A BEETLE GOING FOR HIS LEG, OH JEEZ. Angus yelps, yanks his wand out from under his sweatervest, and blasts the beetle several feet away with a Magic Missile. He starts backing away as the beetle wriggles upright, and then suddenly he steps on one of those junky pop-can flowers and goes flying backward into the dirt again. A little help would be much appreciated! ]
The shops!
[ Angus is generally a good kid, a lawful-neutral type who has dedicated his short life to important ideals like Finding the Truth, Solving Mysteries and Helping Others. Good kids don't do things like steal snack food from empty shops, even if they're hungry and nobody else is around, and there's a can of sour cream and onion pringles right there...! He'll get in trouble if he tries anything, won't he? ]
Excuse me! Is anybody here? I'd like to buy some Pringles, please! I have... um... I'm not sure what you use for currency around here, but I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement!

Exploring the library!
[ Good detective work can solve any mystery, and a thorough investigation requires lots of intensive research, so the first place Angus sets out to explore once he's found his footing is the library. Unfortunately, most of the books are either useless, illegible, or so dang boring that even he can't get more than a chapter into them without getting drowsy. He's sitting cross-legged in the middle of what looks like a book fort, flanked on three sides by precariously stacked towers of books, and is about 1/16th of the way through The History of Mesopotamian Horse Farming when he finally gets fed up enough to shut the book with a resounding WHAP. ]

[The last thing Carey remembers is that everything went to shit all at once. Magnus didn't come back from the mission, and she didn't even have the time to properly mourn before the entire moonbase fell under attack by some invisible army. Everyone started evacuating buildings, nobody knew what the hell was going on, Killian got hurt, and then—she must have blacked out.
And now she wakes up in whatever this place is. It takes her a minute to really wake up and understand her surroundings. Which happen to be bugs. It takes her by surprise, but a quick ring of blue fire breath seems to wipe out enough to give her an opening for escape. At least she can actually see her enemies in this place. ... But now she's alone.]
Outside the colosseum
[Carey is no stranger to being alone. It's definitely not preferable (in fact, it sucks), but it's doable. Her instinct isn't to try to figure out how society works around here. Naw, that would be too obvious. She sets up camp in one of the outer walls of the colosseum, using some of the super cute pieces of furniture she stumbled upon. Who was crazy enough to leave this stuff behind? It's perfect! ... Okay, well, it was far from perfect. Her bed is made out of plastic and cans. But it's softer than the ground, which she's slept on before.]

[The door brings them back again. Shoving them back in a human body they don't want to be in, dropping them in the middle of the colosseum floor. This time, they hear scuffing - and look up to see some very large beetles scurrying in their direction.
They make a squeaking yelp, glancing wildly back and forth and trying to decide whether to run or pretend to sleep. Maybe the beetles will ignore them if they pretend to sleep.
In any case, there's a panicked-looking human sitting on the colosseum floor.]
[The Shops]
[After somehow surviving a bug attack, Napstablook is back to wandering the streets. They're not sure how long they've been away, or what's happened. But they imagine the cats they adopted might be hungry.
They looking through shelves of canned food, picking up a can and looking over it with some uncertainty before putting it back.]

[Monster House]
[And to any of the residents of the Monster House, a ghost monster turned human stumbles into the house. They look a little cut up - as if they've gone through some kind of fight, but they don't seem particularly distressed.
They sit down on the couch, as if they've always lived there. The last thing they remember was that Sans left... were they only gone for a day? One of their horrorterror kittens comes crawling out, gurgling at the sight of them.
Napstablook offers a weak smile.]

There's no conscious thought, just the repeated mantra inside her head that's more and less than words, a need that pounds through her like the beating of her own heart, with that beat: I need to be clean.
Forget the blood on her arm from the stab wound, the blood on her hands from stabbing her sister: she knew where that came from, she knew they were both clean, and the insides of creatures were more often than not a more orderly affair than the outside. But that's why she moves like a bat out of hell, heading out and towards the first building that looks like it might contain a shower.
After the Moor, after her climb back up from her home to their half-remembered plastic lives, Jack hardly felt stairs. She wasn't carrying a dead body, after all. That made all the difference.
She comes back to herself once she's in the shower, once she's cleaned off enough to feel like her skin isn't crawling and her bones aren't shaking fit to do something utterly unscientific.
Cleaning her clothes will be another affair, and no doubt she'll have to clean up the mess she tracked in getting here, but she'd get to that as soon as she no longer felt the strange texture to her hair. ]
For one, she had to go back to that colosseum, preferably with some manner of weapon to defend herself from the large insects. For another, she had to get a sample of at least one of them, though her preference would be to get two if she noticed a difference in size, marking or other features. Second, she had to look to where she'd arrived to ensure that Jillian had come with her; after all, as much as her sister was a great source of pain for her, she was still and always her sister, and only what she had been made to be in many ways. She'd almost suffered a similar if not quite as awful and selfish sort of fate, would have if not for-
No time for such thoughts. She had to go back down there, investigate, and salvage what she could.
She makes good time getting back there, looking around on her way there to discover a small but serviceable piece of rebar she could use as a defensive or offensive weapon. Weapon in hand, she makes her way back in, curious to see who or what else might be there that she can use. ]
For one, she needs to replace the bandaging on her arm, and the lab would no doubt have suitable replacements that she could use. For another, there are greater wounds than those that bleed in red, wounds which she had been bleeding out from all the last year. The lab, more than any clinic, stands to heal them, or at least close them. And while a childhood spent on the Moor makes her particularly difficult to sneak up on, she is enraptured enough at the equipment that she sees that it might actually be possible for someone to sneak up unawares.
...careful, though, she's rather good with a scalpel.]

Alphys herself, meanwhile, is back and around the corner in the lab's small kitchen space, preparing herself a cup of coffee, when she's sure she hears the footsteps. Clutching the mug to her chest, she shuffles slightly back into the space, her tail dragging behind her and claws tapping against the ground to derail all attempts at actually sneaking.
Are those a pair of glasses-covered eyes looking out from the corner there, Jack? Because whatever they're attached to certainly doesn't look human, but it does look impossibly scared.]
