It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.
Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!
Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?
Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

I will help!
[He's digging another handful of crumbs out of his pockets. He really...really has a lot of crumbs in there. The beetles didn't seem interested in them before but he's still scattering them to the ground from his perch.]
These are tasty leftover snacks so please eat them and don't eat people because people don't like to be eated!

[ They were not. Malkus felt the warmth of blood on his legs dripping from increasing damage. 'Least this one had a sound point. Malkus couldn't argue with the fact that most people did not indeed want to be eated. And he was even selflessly parting with his snack crumbs, which the doctor would be damned if he'd ever part with his morsels.
He held onto the boy's feet with his gloved claws, making sure not to grab hard enough to actually hurt him. Once he realized these insectoid monsters could hold their weight without shattering too severely, he'd be stepping over and onto many of them. Much to the quickly increasing agitation of the mass as a whole. ]
I'd hoped to get so many samples- ow- OW- OW! Alright! Time to leave! Say goodbye, lad!
[ Malkus lunged forward, taking strides over the beetles, only slowing when his robes get caught on their pincers. Still he trudged forward, amassing a severely biting heap of bugs in his wake. ]
H-Horrid parasites! Summoning kids and beetles!

Bye! Bye-bye! Goodbye! I will see you again sometime soon maybe!
[It's not until they are out of immediate danger (the danger that Hayden continues to be completely oblivious to) that he addresses the last statement Malkus made.]
What are parasites?

[ Malkus strode ahead, leaning forward so as to make sure that his little passenger didn't topple backwards. He peered up in acknowledgement for a moment before continuing, his tone softening. ]
Bad folk. They eat emotion and drink chaos like water. But worry not. I can keep them at bay!
[ Finally breaking free of the current swarm, Malkus began to pick up speed. He was abnormally swift for a man as gangly as himself. A practical beanstalk! But when it got down to brass tacks, the doctor pulled through. That last line seemed stressed in his voice, laced with uncertainty. ]
Some people enjoy their company, but I would be careful still. They cause problems for good folk like you 'n I.

[He understands most of what you're saying though, Malkus. At least, he probably does. He's definitely paying attention.]
Are there a lot of these bad parasite folk here?
[And if Malkus really can keep them away, then wow! Hayden is glad that he has met him!]

It's a bitter drink, I imagine. But yes! Or, it is if you're the kind that sucks on emotion. Point is that it's bad news.
[ Malkus had never had kids. He'd lost his chance of ever having a family, out in the plague wastes. Plagued Doctors didn't get to live those kinds of lives. But Hayden was a nice presence, even if he wished so dearly for better surroundings for this kid. He made Malkus feel... responsible. Like he wanted to do his best to keep this little spirit happy. He'd be rubbish at it, but it was a foreign tug at his heartstrings that almost frightened the analytical doctor. ]
Thankfully not. Just six I think? But there are more good people than bad. In fact, I don't think there are any here that are downright horrible? I'll introduce you to some of my crowd. My associates!
[ His friends, but sometimes it felt hard to say. Like if he did, he'd end up losing them. ]

[It's hard to say exactly how Hayden is picturing this whole thing going down but, well, he definitely sounds excited about it! He just wants to make the best of this weird situation of his.]
Where do we go once we are outside of this place?
no subject
[ He had to focus on ducking through an exit, moving through the walls of the coliseum to finally reach Hadriel proper. Only then was he able to talk again. ]
Friends? I- hrm-... Be careful of who you make friends with! As for our destination!
...
[ He looked around. Shit. Shoot. He would suggest his apartment so he could plan a course of action for this child, but it was currently covered in monster viscera after a particularly rough... time. Hell, this was about as much experience as he had with kids. Remove them from danger. Now what? ]
Do you have... any... pressing matters? Hunger? Cold? ... [ Did kids require more than that? ]
