Intro Log: The Joys of Composting

It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.

Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!

Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?

Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Hayden yelps as he stumbles back away from an angry beetles, trying to find a clearer spot.]

But I thought you had to be someone important to get kidnapped? I'm just me, and these are just bugs! I don't think we are very good hostages!

[anoshe]

[He kicks one of the beetles away before it can get too close. He'll be fine if he gets bitten, but that doesn't mean he wants to.]

I'll have you know I'm an excellent hostage. Granted, it generally doesn't end well for my captors.

[And there have been no captors appearing, which is especially strange.]

I'm sure you're important, even if you don't think you are.

Are you a professional hostage?

[Hayden doesn't know if someone could be that, but if they're very good at it then it must be a job, right?]

I'm expendable! Professionally expendable!

[He's not professionally anything, he just really wanted to use the word.]

[He has to think about that for a minute. I mean, sometimes, technically...]

I don't think I'd call myself that, but I've got a little experience.

[He grins.]

I don't think you're expendable, professionally or not. Why don't we get out of this place so you don't get eaten?

I have a secret and the secret is I don't know what expendable means.

[But he's heard it tossed around a lot in his direction so it has to be true, right? Oh well! This guy has the right ideas.]

Okay! Do you want to walk or go the magical way? I like both but one is faster!

It means something that can be easily thrown away - something that isn't worth much. It's not a word to use for people.

[Which does not, of course, mean that people don't use it. But Rhy wants that to be clear, at least.]

What's the magical way?

[You know how they say that ignorance is bliss? Hayden abruptly gets a hurt, heartbroken look on his face, his shoulders drooping.]

Oh. Yeah, I guess that makes sense...

[He hesitates, but then shakes it off. It's okay because Rhy just told him that...he's not that! Which is very nice! So he's gonna be really very nice and helpful!]

I can make a portal and it will take us outside! It's very zippy!

[Oh no. He doesn't know why the sad puppy face happened, but he doesn't want to see it ever again.]

A portal? That sounds wonderful. My brother can do something like that.

[Though Hayden is clearly not an Antari, so... this is something else. Rhy really isn't sure what's going on, he's just going to roll with it.]
