Intro Log: The Joys of Composting

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks! Bugs! Weird stuff!

It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.

Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!

Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?

Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Broken, leashed, whatever Seel called it, it all amounted to the same thing. At least it ended fights quickly. Or the immediate ones, anyway. It would probably simmer for a while until Seel could work up the nerve to do something about it. If he ever could. There weren't too many towers around to toss who he didn't like into, but there were more than a few doors with a lock on the outside.

So far as Cal was concerned, Seel didn't have to like anything, so long as he listened when he was told to shut up. He didn't want to have to use that power, but he knew what his mouth was like in more ways than one. So long as he remembered to stay in line it wasn't that much a concern.

He almost snapped back at Seel, too, knowing there was no need for it now. He managed to rein in his tongue, but it took a few extra moments of silence. It probably killed Seel knowing what Swift thought of Cal.

"I suppose so. Perhaps I'll come back for a visit. Once we manage to leave here." If they managed to leave.

If Seel Griselming had been given a glimpse of who he'd turn into, he probably would have fought Thiede tooth and nail. But, he'd never been given that chance. He went in knowing he'd have to pay a price but stupidly thinking maybe he wouldn't. Maybe Thiede just wanted to work with him, that his own skills spoke for themselves. He'd been naive, maybe as naive as Pell, but he'd been conned, willingly. And by the time he realized it, well, he was too far in the hole to climb out again. Had it been all worth it? Seel har Parasiel thought so. Seel Griselming might have other thoughts.

Still, he couldn't quite suppress a twitch at the idea of Cal, Tigron or not, coming for a visit in Forever. Sitting at the fucking dinner table. So, in a completely undiplomatic tone, replied, "Yes, you'll have to. Swift and Cobweb would love to see you." Maybe he could ask Yarrow to poison Cal's soup. That wouldn't piss Pell off at all....he sighed inwardly. Fuck.

Yes, it was killing him, knowing what Swift thought and felt about Cal, knowing that there were so many damn people who cared about what became of him. Was Seel angry over Orien's death, still? Or just jealous? Had the emotions mixed and fermented long enough that he couldn't tell the difference anymore?

Cal knew exactly what Seel thought of the idea of his visit. He wasn't going back to Forever. Not for a long time, if he ever did again. Seel had made damn certain that it wasn't a home anymore. Probably on purpose, trying to erase every bit of Cal that remained there, like they'd already done to Terzian. The only problem with that was that Cal wasn't going to go away any time soon.

At least he knew to expect Seel's reaction, though, so all he did was raise an eyebrow at Seel's tone. He wasn't going to stop him mouthing off if he tried. Most of the time he didn't want to, until Seel stepped out of line. Something told him, though, that Seel knew exactly where that line was and enjoyed stepping back and forth across it so he couldn't quite be punished for it.

"I'm sure they would." Because Seel sure wouldn't. "I'd say I'll make sure to warn the house but I'm sure Cobweb can manage that on his own."

Yes, Seel did his best to erase everything that was Cal in that home. Just as they had done with Terzian's bedroom. No trace of Terzian in there, despite the furniture being the same. And let's be fair, Seel would erase Cobweb if he thought he could get away with it. He tried. Undermining the best he could, making him fight for whatever he took back. He could have slipped gracefully into the role of Consort, but that wasn't Seel. He was only graceful when he wanted to be, and he'd fight tooth and tail when he wasn't.

Like now, when he shook his toe over the line just to show Cal he wasn't completely whipped, just enough that it wouldn't warrant intervention, yet. He knew exactly where that line was. He was a damn politician.

"Yes, it would be hard for anyone to surprise Cobweb." But Seel had done it, granted, he'd chosen to move after Terzian died, not exactly fair, but Seel would take the victory. "But I'm sure if anyone is capable, you are."

"If that's supposed to be a compliment, it needs work." It wasn't and he knew it. Seel was good at saying one thing and making it mean something else entirely. And with Cal he'd certainly get a lot of practice. He couldn't be outright rude and he couldn't even pretend he wanted to be polite. Maybe eventually Cal could start blaming him for being an ass but even after three decades he still couldn't.

Not completely whipped. Ha. That was a good one. He just wasn't entirely muzzled. He could still speak, and Cal was half beginning to wonder whether that was a mistake.

It was funny that most seemed to view Cal as the monster. They judged him by actions that while where his own, weren't entirely his own. Judging someone when they weren't at their best isn't fair. Meanwhile Seel was more monster than Cal ever was. Seel was sane, and somewhere deep inside his soul was a heartbroken boy turned Uigenna, screaming at the world. For all of Cal's questionable actions, he didn't hate. Hate was Seel's life preserver, even if he didn't know it. He was loathe to let it go.

Seel, stuck in a position which gave him power, but not the reach to act on it. Tempered by those higher than him. And Cal? Fought for a position which had been wrongfully denied and still learning how to wield it. What a pair they made.

Maybe someone could make Cal a muzzle. A whip would be easier.

"Maybe I'm out of practice." It wasn't like he had Swift around, to keep him sweet. And Pell, well it was Pell. And still a little weird, considering the thirty year age difference and personality shift.

Maybe they were both monsters--just different kinds. Cal was the sort of beast that you knew was a monster, knew it was coming for you, and could see in the light. Seel was the kind that hid behind a face you might have trusted, slithering into your soul from the darkness. Which one was worse was a matter of opinion, really. One of them tore your body apart and left, the other one tore apart your mind and stayed there to make sure the job was finished.

"Out of practice" was a damn understatement. "Deliberately being rude" was much closer. Maybe he should have ended the conversation but maybe he had a masochistic streak. And Seel would just bring it up again later. It would never be over.

"Maybe you'd better make a point to 'practice,' then."

Well yes, Seel wasn't exactly at his most polite at the moment, he wasn't under any incentive to break out the fine china and bow and scrape and he only had Swift's memory with him to keep him from being rude beyond compare. The only thing he did have the memory and knowledge that Cal had some something amazing for him--willingly or unwillingly, and he needed to give him the benefit for that.

"Is that an order or a request Tiahaar?"

They were both monsters, and there they danced. Even as Seel knew the steps, biting back and taking what territory he could, he knew he wasn't going to win. He never won, unless it involved locking people in rooms and trying to throw away the key.

"Take it how you wish. Either way, I can't make you do anything without a fight and I'm not in the mood for a pissing contest." If his still somewhat-vague memories of the place were anything to go on, they'd have plenty of time for that later. As exciting as it was, there was still quite a lot of down time for them to scream at each other. Particularly if they were sharing a home. He still wasn't certain if Pell actually wanted him around, though. He'd probably be sleeping alone on the couch for a while.

"I'm here, Seel, and you're going to have to get used to it. Whether that's sooner or later I don't much care, but it will have to happen." He'd never been able to cut Cal completely out of his life, and it was going to be even harder now.

"You're only damaging yourself fighting the inevitable. I could not care less about how comfortable or uncomfortable I'm making you by existing."

Seel twitched not so inwardly as Cal spoke. So damn authoritative. But, that was the pecking order, wasn't it? He didn't really have a choice, as much as he tried to fight against it. Cal was Tigron, and Seel wasn't. Pell had given him all that power. Pell, fate, whatever. And now he had to pay the price. Accept it, even as much as he didn't want too. They were going to live in close quarters, it wasn't like he had Swift to escape too. Seel was going to have to live with it.

"I understand, Tiahaar." Seel replied through gritted teeth, because he fucking hated this. Despite everything Cal had did, everything he wanted him to do, how Cal had helped him, Seel held grudges. He needed to work past it, and now well, he didn't really have a choice.

"I'll do my best." Essentially cowed, Seel did the proper thing through steely eyes and bowed his head. He now had two Tigrons to deal with, whether or not Pell chose to pull his weight was besides the matter. He was Tigron, whether it happened yet or not.

Better than nothing. At least Seel was pretending to play nice. Or at least pretending to do what he was already supposed to do. Cal wasn't sure how much authority he actually had here or for how long Seel would accept it, but at least for the moment if he closed his fist he could stop outright fighting, If not the sniping. That he didn't think he could stop even if he sewed Seel's damn mouth shut.

He wanted to snipe right back at him with "do you" but held his tongue; he almost had to bite it not to speak and ruin the quasi-peaceful truce the had at the moment. He'd already antagonized Seel enough. Instead he just nodded, finding something off in the distance to pretend he was distracted with.

"I'm sure you will. You might even manage it. Was there anything else?"
