Intro Log: The Joys of Composting

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks! Bugs! Weird stuff!

It's that time again! Or, well, probably the very first time for you. It's not that often that you turn up in a different world - unless it is. You awaken on the ground of a large arena, a stone ceiling stretching high above you. Welcome to Hadriel! Don't worry, you weren't the only one who woke up here. So did a bunch of other people - and so did some monsters.

Yup, crawling around being incredibly gross are quite a few Jauchekafers, large beetles that feed off chemical and biological waste from humans. When upset or alarmed, they're perfectly happy to swarm and attack people, so hopefully you didn't wake up in the middle of them. Being about two and a half feet long, their bites can do quite a bit of damage, and that's not even counting the toxicity that might be passed on from their diet!

Speaking of their diet, those beetles aren't the only trash that's washed up in Hadriel this month. While making your escape from the arena, you might stumble over a interesting table or a possibly comfy chair, or even a piece of art. A lot of it's pretty cool, but you're not gonna find anything that isn't made out of trash. But hey, maybe that's your aesthetic?

Don't get too distracted by all this trash that has been turned into treasure. After you've find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

What the fuck. [It's less of a question and more of an expression of shock. Whole other timelines? That shit's not entirely unheard of, like, planes beyond the known planes. But still???

Tucker rubs a hand across his face. He's having some similar thoughts re: the possibility of this being some kind of trick. Better test it.]

Okay, so. Late April. That means... the last thing you remember is us saving those kids, right? From the cult? Hadrian, Illyana, Poppip, and Jessie?

[Harlan was closest to Julie, even before they went on a roadtrip together. If he doesn't realize that's not her name, then it's not him.]
ghostlocked: i've just been in a very bad mood for 45 years (wtf • i'm not crazy)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-17 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Harlan makes a face. Uh? Excuse the hell out of you, JT.]

Her name is Julie. What the fuck? She's the coolest one. Show her some goddamn respect.

[If his overreaction to insulting his daughter isn't proof enough that it's really him, Tucker doesn't know him at all.]

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2017-09-18 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow, okay. Instant results there, and with it also being an overreaction: it seems pretty likely that this is indeed the real HH.]

Dude, chill. I know her name. You really think I'm gonna remember the name Illyana and not Julie?

[Of course he'd remember Illyana. She's the one who rode on his shoulders and cuddled up to him at night. But if what Harlan's saying is true, he doesn't remember that.]

I was trying to make sure you're the real you.
ghostlocked: the guy who's never said anything regretful in the last 18 years (srs • just take it from me)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-20 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
So throw one of the other kids under the bus. Julie's the best.

[Good idea, JT, but also fuck you.

...Except.]

What happened to them? They're okay, right?

[He's worried. Panna wouldn't let them just get filtered into the system, though. He's lowkey hoping he'll return home to four new adopted children.]

[He's not even going to address that. Julie's great but really HH?]

They're fine, don't worry. Turns out Poppip is from Bell's village. The cleric we met at the mountain? And the gnomes said they'd take the others in, too, so we brought them all down there. Scoped the place out, it seems pretty ideal. Safe, too.

[They made sure of that.

He'll... leave out how he was actually kinda sad that they'll have to leave the kids behind.]
ghostlocked: and it is NOT a manic state (wtf • squints at)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-20 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [He sounds maybe a little more disappointed than relieved.] Weird coincidence. So, what, they're just gonna grow up in some gnome town? In Georgia? You mentioned Georgia.

[Georgia sucks, mostly in that it's pretty far away from New York.]

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2017-09-21 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess so. They seem to like it down there, though.

[He kicks at the ground a bit.]

And they said we could visit whenever.
ghostlocked: that achieved sentience (sad • i'm a bad idea)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-23 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods. Well, they're happy, at least. Too bad he's not.]

You think that's the best thing for them? Did Panna sign off on this?

[He's glad they can visit, but it's not like that affect him here. Ugh.]
nowherewolf: <lj user=swansong> (r u funnin me son)

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2017-09-23 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what the best thing for kids is, HH. I'm like, the last person to ask about that.

[But IF YOU'RE GONNA ASK...]

But I don't know. I don't know if isolation is the best thing. I hope they get to travel around when they get a little older. Panna did sign off on this, yeah.
ghostlocked: and it is NOT a manic state (sad • i am witnessing a sad)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-24 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least Tucker's honest.]

That's my worry. How isolated are they? Gnome towns are usually insular, I thought. [Then again, what the fuck does he know about gnomes? He's just going off of what he's heard.]

Hm. I guess if Panna thinks it's okay... [That doesn't sit well with him either, though. Why would she send the kids off to some gnome town in fucking Georgia? Ugh. This is frustrating. She must've had a good reason, though... Right?]
nowherewolf: <lj user=swansong> (keywords)

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2017-09-24 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty isolated, yeah. They've got this crazy magic forest around 'em that prevents people who don't know where it is from finding it.

[He's not entirely sure why she wanted to, either, but it was a better choice than sending them into the system. Especially with them being non-human kids. Still, he's guessing that's not why HH is so bummed.]

... You wanted to keep her around, didn't you?
ghostlocked: i'm arguing with this man who can't defend himself and is possibly dead (srs • i'm not arguing with you)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-09-26 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus. So, isolated as in totally cut off from the rest of the world? What the fuck is the point in that?

[He hates this, even if it doesn't really make much difference to him now.

He makes a face at Tucker's question. Was he that obvious?]

It's not like I have any business adopting a kid, but I figured she'd still be, like, nearby. Not off in fucking gnome-ass Neverland.
nowherewolf: <user name=lingonberries site=insanejournal.com> (detective chic)

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2017-09-27 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, to keep them safe?

[Which like, yes he wants, but also: nobody ever had fun being entirely safe.]

But yeah, I get you. [He wavers for a second.]

I was kinda hoping they'd be close, too.
ghostlocked: and it is NOT a manic state (sad • i am witnessing a sad)

[personal profile] ghostlocked 2017-10-02 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
[He just shakes his head. He's having a hard time believing that Panna really gave the okay for this... He wishes not for the first time that she was here, or that he was home, so he could ask where the fuck her head is at. He's gotta be missing something.]

Not like it matters now. You read the guide yet?
