What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.
As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.
Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.
Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers July 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
rolls in here super late
Part of the reason for that might be that he's aware of new arrivals today, and while Gansey isn't the type to send himself straight into the danger of the Colosseum, he does feel a certain care for the fact that others are there. He'd spent most of the morning in the clinic, helping out where he could, and now that he's around the streets, he's keeping his eyes open for anyone else that might need help.
While seeking the hairbrush, obviously. He's capable of managing both at once.
He's sorting through a particularly hopeless-looking pile when he hears a familiar voice asking questions. His head whips up and he looks around with wide eyes, disbelieving. ]
Henry?
[ He abandons his less than noble pursuit at once, and comes to take the other boy by the shoulder. It's mostly just to check that he's real. ]
Jesus Christ! When did you get here? Are you all right?
And no, they don't take platinum. Put it away, there is no money here.
rolls back in even later!
ah, this poor creature, he isn't going to know what to do with himself.
now, henry will never blame anyone for not wanting to go near the colosseum, especially if they've been here long enough to both know and have experienced what comes from having woken up on the floor of it. at least in his case, there had been nothing more dangerous than an unnatural assortment of hangers strewn about, and he's no worse for the wear with the exception of still having no real idea of what to do with himself now that he's out of it, and perusing the store windows for something interesting seems as good a plan as any that he hasn't thought of yet.
of all the people that he'd thought he might have run into during his perusal of all things unimpressive, one ( 1 ) richard gansey the third is the name at the top of the very short list of one that he actually wants to run into, and upon hearing his name he turns, brows nearly reaching his hairline as the momentum of the action nearly sets him off-balance. he would have recognized that voice anywhere, he thinks, especially when it seems like he'd only just heard it. )
Dick! Dick Gansey, just the man I've been looking for. Since I woke up. On the ground. Surrounded by a myriad of questionable objects of even more questionable origin. ( he reaches up himself, claps his friend on the opposing shoulder, and there they stand, mirror images of one another, both in curiosity and genuine surprise. ) I'm fine, I'm fine, really. Haven't been here long – but long enough to have figured out that I'm not in Kansas anymore.

Instead, and selfishly, he's just glad to see his friend again. It hadn't been all that long ago that Gansey would have considered them acquaintances, at best. A lot had changed in the week they had decided to trust one another. ]
No, you're absolutely not. I'm very glad to see you're all right. I remember waking in that arena. It's never pleasant for anyone.
[ And the first time, Gansey had been buried alive when he woke. That had been horrifying enough for him. For Henry, he knows, it would have been even worse.
Speaking of which. Concern flits across his face. ]
You are all right, aren't you? What with this place being essentially...underground, to the best of our knowledge.
[ It's a spacious cavern, but it after all is still a cavern. He can't just ignore that particular elephant in the room. ]

just as selfishly, though, he's just as glad to see the other, and it shows in the spread of his smile, the light in his eyes that nearly make them shine. he's beyond pleased, and every gesture is exaggerated in true henry fashion. ) Were there creepy hangers on the ground when you were there? We're talking like … baby arms and things the likes of which I can't say I've seen before. ( he gives a punctuated shudder, just for the effect, even though he's still grinning from ear to ear.
now, the fact that he's now in an underground cave is not a thing that he'd been at all focusing on since he'd woken up. because even though the ceiling is high, the spaces between the walls are wide enough to give him space to breathe, it doesn't take away from the fact that he's in an enclosed space. it will not take away from the fact that he's in an enclosed space. and that –
that is something that makes his chest tighten, quite without his permission.
but instead of making his friend worry about that, he squares his shoulders and picks his chin up, waving a dismissive hand. ) Me? I'm all good, Gansey Man. Don't you worry about me. It doesn't even feel like a cavern. ( yes it does.
but deflecting like it ain't no thang. )
So. Get me up to speed. What do I need to know?

I missed the hangers. But that sounds markedly unpleasant, so I'm glad I did.
[ He's also glad that Henry is telling him about weird looking hangers and not, for example, monsters that tried to eat his face. The latter is all too possible here in Hadriel. ]
I'm not sure what you know already. We're in a place where a set of gods make the rules, and they use their power every so often to encourage certain feelings in us. Our emotions give them strength, which is wonderful when Hope is influencing us, and far less so when it comes from Fear or Rage.
The Library is full of books that, so far as I'm aware, no one here can read, and the whole city used to be inhabited by others. They're gone now, and we're living in their houses. The place seems like a ruin, except where the gods have destroyed it.
How am I doing so far?
