As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.
Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.
Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers July 10th-15th.

This time it's Jo.
Dean stares for a good long while, taking in the sight of someone who shouldn't have died in the first place, someone he hadn't seen since Osiris, someone else whose fault it was that they were dead. Jo never should've died and yet she had, and there was no more to it than that. Guilt struck loud and painful into the pit of his stomach and yet his first concern rang out: she wasn't real. This was a demon, a spirit, something wrong and twisted up. Something was using Jo's body for whatever reasons and he had to figure out what it was and make it stop.
Still. He had to get her out of there first before he could find out anything more, and he leaned far over the railing of the seating area, shouting at the top of his lungs to get her attention away from the weird ass shit that was scattered around. ]

Her foot kicks something across the dirt and she starts, snapping her head down to see what it was. Instead of a clue as to where she is... it's a strange object in the shape of a giant, curled human finger, with some kind of base. It's unlike anything she's ever seen, which doesn't help tell her what's going on other than possibly confirm her suspicions she's in one of the strange worlds she's read about. Which one, and why? Would the Tetherer be able to find her here? How could she contact them?
This is possibly one of the most distressing situations she's ever been in and is obviously the perfect time for her to realize there are inhuman noises in the distance. Growls that sound like they're coming from great beasts she's never encountered. She is not equipped for this.
Well, she can't just freeze in place, and her parasite is wriggling beneath its covers agitatedly as if it can feel her fear. She starts to creep toward what she thinks might be an exit, though it's hard to see from this distance... She goes ahead and grabs a nearby plastic baby leg from the ground while she's at it. You know. For defense.]

He's just been playing around with a bit of wire hanger, twirling it idly between his fingertips, when there's a striped shirt and a knife and a locket. Knife and locket - yeah, okay, there's certain tells to this kind of thing. Most important one being that the color of the shirt's all wrong. Implying a certain credence to the theory that there's pieces of something tearing apart the whole. Lotta stuff happens when you go through the Door, but somehow he doubts that clothes of a subtly different cut and a slight shift of physical appearance is one of those things. Not unless there's something else at work.
Otherwise, though? Height, cut of the hair, it's all fairly similar. There's probably an anticipated amount of bleedover. Multiple agents in one place in a vessel unintended for that level of anomalous output. Theoretically, the concept is fascinating. In practice, it leaves him with a real bad taste behind his teeth.

[ Victor stands out: his attire is exceedingly 1890s and perfect for a funeral. Well. This is strange. Out of all the bizarre things he encountered in his world, Victor couldn't think of anything that could bring him to a world like this...because this was obviously not London. The lack of a sky told him that much.
So there's all sorts of random questions running around Victor's mind. Don't freak out, take things calmly, do it one step at a time. The first thing? Figuring out what these sorts of chopped off fake baby feet are. Picking up one of the baby feet coat hangers, Victor frowned, looking at it with a frown. ]
How macabre. [ He looks over the foot coat hanger for a moment...and then just pockets it. Walking up to some other person there, Victor nods and then calmly asks ] Do you have any idea why we arrived with fake children's limbs?

Thankfully, Victor's managed to avoid most of the deathclaws and is sticking to the outskirts of their area. He's scavenged up some relatively clean fabric as well as a bottle of water. Unfortunately, he hasn't found where the clinic is yet. Fortunately, he's doing his best to provide minor first aid. Anybody who looks like they have any scrapes or injuries of any kind is met with Victor walking up to them, a model of efficiency. ]
Show me where you're wounded—I don't know what those things are but it's obvious from their talons and teeth that you wouldn't want to cross them.

Maketh survived the Academy on Mandalore. Thus, she's armed herself with her sword and rifle and gone out past the city limits.
Thus far, she's had luck sniping the damn things from a distance, but the last one was determined enough to charge her position.
The good news is that it didn't manage to slash or gore her before dying. The bad news is that her arm is hanging loose and throbbing in that familiar way. A broken bone. Maketh grimaces, tugging her belt off with her good hand, and only glancing up briefly at the appearance of the stranger.
The monster is about five feet away, dead and drooling over the ground, a shot through its eye.] Broken arm.
[Maketh's eyes are hard, mouth set in a sharp line.] Can you set it?
[There's work yet to be done, and it didn't get her dominant arm. Only the right. She can fight one-handed if need be.]

[ Kougaiji isn't freaked out so much as he's... pissed off. But what else is new.
His hand settles on something as he's trying to pick himself up, and he immediately draws it back when he sees that it's a dismembered hand. ... Though, upon closer examination, it's also attached to a board. And it isn't real. And there are others like it, strewn around, including some more... questionable ones. What the fuck.
He finally stands, kicks the hand-on-the-board across the dirt as he begins walking. He's not going to get any answers lying around, and his first order of business is to find someone who can explain to him what the hell this is, and why he's here.
And so help him, if he finds out his friends are in danger, he is so ready for a fight... ]

[ Kougaiji has never seen anything like these creatures, but he isn't afraid. He's sure he's handled worse. Still, they're tough, and he knows better than to go picking fights when he's still unsure of his surroundings. So, for now, he'll play dodge-em.
Maybe this is how you find him - you're about to round a corner, and he puts out an arm, silently trying to stop you while jerking his head toward the thing, just within sight but, thankfully, not taking notice of you or him. Yet. But don't get it wrong! He's not here to save your damn life! He just doesn't particularly want to witness some stupid, unnecessary death because you happened to not be paying attention.
Tch.Or, maybe you run into him once he has been spotted... There's one rushing him now, but he doesn't panic. He has claws too, obviously, but they're not as long as those claws, and he's not going to hedge his bets on claw vs. claw just yet. Instead, he readies a powerful fire spell, hoping to sear through that thick skin and provide some sort of opening for him - or whoever else is nearby - to take advantage of. At the very least, while it's reeling from the impact, he has the chance to get out of its line of sight, and he can ready another spell.
Hopefully this won't be a long fight. He has better shit to do. He still wants answers, damn it. ]

She doesn't have time to reflect on the unfairness of it all before she realizes she's already hit the ground.
Hannah Washington doesn't move for a long time, reeling from what had just happened and confused as to how she'd made impact without feeling it. She doesn't feel much pain at all, she notices, as she slowly shifts. The heavy, pink jacket that Beth had wrapped around her is still there, still on. Still keeping her warm. ]
--Beth? Beth! [ Her eyes shoot open at a sharper remembrance of what had happened and she begins to move, to pull herself to a sitting position. There's no answer from her twin, but there are... sounds. Distant voices, some chatter, and... growls. Strange, animalistic shouts. The animal from the woods is still here and she's in the caves, of course.
Hannah scrambles to her feet, eyes wide, checking the glasses on her face. Still unbroken, good. Her breaths come slowly, as she tries to keep them under control, but her heart is pounding. Whatever that thing was, it'd been followed by... that stranger. The man with the flamethrower. If the bear, or whatever it was, was still out there, then so was he, probably. ]
Hello? [ She calls shakily, hoping desperately for her sister's reply (who else would be in this cave?). When there isn't one, she begins trying to find her way out, noting the strange structure of wherever she'd fallen, how it looked almost man-made. Hannah frowns, confused, but knows she can't afford to think about it now if she and Beth are in danger. I have to find her. We have to get back to the lodge.
She doesn't notice at all the stranger hangars on the ground. ]

[The child's voice comes from behind Hannah, calm despite the situation. Chara had stumbled on the human girl while walking around trying to find an exit. [ Consciousness, he had come to realize, was a strange phenomena. It sparked grand speculations on the nature of life, yet remained an elusive concept impossible to define. The same could be said of it's opposing force which he had never experienced until the moment he regained consciousness. At first, he was struck by the mass of information coming from his sensory inputs, and opened his eyes to help find the source of it all when his eyes suddenly fell to a figure beside him he had not sensed till now. ]

[ The Deathclaw swung at him with it's deadly talons striking over and over again growing ever angry in its inability to land a single blow. Each passed through him as if he were a ghost touching nothing but air as the android retained his ground in an attempt to speak to the creature only to be thwarted by yet another attempt on his life. ]
I am not your enemy. [ He tried to convey but to no avail as the creature attempted to impale him once more forcing him to accept the fact that: ]

[He smells dirt instead of perfumed sheets. The air is staler than it should be, and not quite the perfect temperature. Jack opens his eyes and he's not at the palace, not in his room, and his first reaction is relief.
And then he has the same questions as so many others the first time they opened their eyes inside of this cave.]
Where am I?
[Jack pushes himself to his feet, kicks at the rather obscene hanger that was previously poking him in the back.]
Is this a joke? I should've known that my father would have such a grim sense of humor.
[He shouts it at the air, spitting the last words out like they're poison.]

[If Jack had a weapon, he would fight. He doubts he would actually win against the monsters, he would just prefer to die on his feet.
So maybe it's for the best that he doesn't have one. But he doesn't make his way towards an exit of the colosseum just yet. He watches one from a respectable distance, some of that dirt that he woke up in rubbed onto his skin.]

[His accent is as rural as Jack's is cultured, the drawl sounding relaxed even through the tension in his words. The redhead puts a hand on his shoulder, wanting to get Jack away from the thing before it spots either of them. He was trying to save bullets, since he wasn't sure where he was going to get more here, or how many from his father's old M1 it would take to bring down that thing.]

[He sits up with a groan, one hand going to his forehead. Why does he feel so stiff? Why's his bed so hard? And why does his hand feel gritty?
Ichigo's eyes blink fully open, and the first thing he sees besides his own arms and legs is what looks like a severed hand reaching up out of the dirt.]
Aaagh!
[It's not easy to jump from a sitting position, but Ichigo manages it, lunging to the side away from the creepy friggin hand. He doesn't notice the set of baby's arms sticking out of a block of wood until his hand brushes against it, and he flinches away again, staring at them in slack-jawed horror.
But wait. They hadn't felt real. Cautiously, still sitting on the ground, Ichigo reaches out and pokes at one of them -- yeah, that's definitely plastic. Pulling his mouth into a tight frown, Ichigo gets a good look around himself at last, staring at the scattered, weirdly-macabre coat hangers and at the scattered, unfamiliar people. He's never seen this place before in his life, and it certainly looks nightmarish. Why's he in his uniform? Why are there all these creepy hands everywhere? None of it makes any sense.]
Is this some kind of messed-up dream?

[The more Ichigo sees of the city, the less he likes it. It's all alien, all weirdly organic-looking, all just a little bit off, and the unfamiliar-familiarity is really starting to get annoying. He's walking down the streets with his schoolbag slung over his shoulder and his hands in his pockets, staring around with an expression that's both confused and surly at once. It's a dead giveaway; he might as well have written newbie on his forehead. This is a guy who clearly doesn't know where he's going or what he's going to do: he picked a direction and went with it.
If you're close by, you might here him muttering to himself: cheerful place, or I wonder how high up that is, or are we really underground? or shit, another dead end. Guess I'd better go back.]

Despite the risk of newly arrived monsters in the street, Hermann has taken the slight risk (an experimental chance, if you will), of stepping outside, visiting the stores farthest from the coliseum. He'd like to assist the newcomers if he could, keeping an eye open for unfamiliar faces, pay it forward, the like, but he's not stepping foot in there.
Besides, Mr. Valentine had last month given him reason to think the variety of supplies might change, making a regular trip worthwhile whatever the state of their supplies.
He's turning a corner, nearing a shop, when the spots the young man. A teenager by the looks of him, garishly bright hair, talking to himself.
Despite Hermann's good intentions, despite the age disparity, Hermann must still take a moment to gather up the requisite gumption. He squares his jaw, pushes back his shoulders, and raises his cane in a greeting wave. ]

Once Souji parts ways with Ichigo, he begins investigating the rest of the city - answers as to where he is and why he's been brought here aren't going to just drop out of the sky, right? They typically don't, in Souji's experience - well, with the exception of that first Liminal Space he encountered, with Naoto literally dropping in on him from the sky overhead. Still, it's unlikely such an occurrence will repeat, so Souji takes the initiative to start hunting down information on his own.
The shops, once he recognizes them for what they are, seem like an obvious place to start, because shops are where people like to frequent, even if they're not actually in the area to buy things. Townspeople in Inaba's shopping district were always too happy to chat with Souji, and he's hoping it will be the same here. And he doesn't expect to find anyone he recognizes here, but it's a nice surprise when he does.

After Souji's feeling a little more settled and has oriented himself to the buildings of the city, he sets off for some of the more remote locations, to get a good mental map of the area. He finds himself drawn to the lake, and it reminds him of time spent by the Samegawa back in Inaba, and of the time he nearly drowned in the flood in Questing Country, too - two very different experiences, both centered around water. It's funny, how memories work like that.
He's abruptly shaken from remembering by a loud fit of shouting - not far away, by his best guess. Whoever it is might be in trouble, so he hurries toward the noise, alert for signs of danger.

There are more landmarks in this strange underground city to be found, and Souji isn't accustomed to staying idle anyway. In fact, after so many months spent in the Three Twins' cramped quarters, it's nice to be able to walk around freely, even if there's no sky to be seen overhead. So he takes his time exploring the entire city - poking around the temples, peeking into the shops, stopping to engage the rest of Hadriel's citizens with a polite smile, maybe even a quick question about whichever part of the city he's found himself.

Regular as clockwork, isn't it? The new recruits all coming in. And, of course, the monsters coming with them. Dangerous monsters seem to be a recurring theme here - for one thing, Hadriel has both the Big Bad Wolf and Grendel - but these ones literally reek of death. Bigby can smell the goddamn things from his apartment.
So, of course, he's out and about too, sometimes human but mostly as a werewolf, attacking the Deathclaws. Or at least distracting them while their original victim gets a breather.

Things had been going well for a while. Avoiding them wasn't hard when they had poor eyesight but much like the Undying, another confrontation was inevitable. Luckily enough it was only one. By this point it supported a number of knife wounds from Chara, but they knew it was stalling for time at best.
And then suddenly werewolf. Chara backed up, feeling a spark of surprise. It was the first time here that they had seen another creature that looked inhuman. Well, vaguely human shaped. Fur and teeth. But if it is Bigby's plan to give them a breather, then Chara will take the chance to observe. What are you?

Jean doesn't remember when she fell asleep, but she has a vague impression of a smog-filled town filled with monsters and peeling walls, the stench of copper and rot. Here, the smell of dirt fills her senses, the unfamiliar sight of an arena(?) sending her into high alert as she gets to her feet.
Here, she senses snippets of thoughts, flashes of memory and the harried flush of minds that aren't the ones she'd left behind. No one she knows is here, and she feels her stomach clench as she starts to search for the exit, seeking out anyone who will have answers for her. This is not the world she's left, the chaos that had only just begun to settle in the wake of En Sabah Nur's rampage.
No, here is a rampage of a different sort as she sees beastly creatures moving through the shadows in the inner halls of the arena, bloodthirsty ferocity ringing loud and clear. There is nothing in their minds to indicate rational thought, only the powerful instinct to tear and kill. Jean pauses at the snatches of fear and determination she picks up from the others in the same boat as her, plucked from different worlds of their own -- similarly confused, lost.
She pays little attention to the coat hangers as she wanders, cautious but curious, but she stiffens when she spots one of the Deathclaws stalking towards her, immense and threatening and out for blood. Jean has never quite faced off with something like that before; a primal thing without conscious thought, powered by pure instinct and capable of rending apart an army if it wanted. She is unarmed but far from powerless; even so, she's slowly starting to back away. Really, where's a useful weapon when you need one?
Out the corner of her eye, however, she spots someone getting close. Without thinking, she projects: run! ]

At least he thinks they're hot; he hadn't been able to see their faces.
That aside, he hurls another fireball right in its ugly face before it can charge at him again like a tornado of freakishly long limbs and body blades. It pitches back, the fireball blazing right into the face -- and he follows it up with another, before he sees another one growling and leaping in his direction. ]
