Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

I do not know. Perhaps, if you are diplomatic, Hope will tell you.

[ She has not a shred of it in her soul; if someone like Bruce hasn't managed to get to the truth then she hardly thinks her attitude is going to endear her to anyone. ]

I'm capable.

[Whether it's enough remains to be seen. Particularly if they're the all-knowing sort of gods.]

You said they don't control the door - do you know who created it?

[scarletcast]

[ She gives Barbara another once-over, yes, certainly capable. ]

No. There are others who have been here longer, they may know.

[ladyofgotham]

[She nods.] I don't suppose there's a registry.

[scarletcast]

No. You may make one if you wish. I am certain there will be those here willing to help you.

[ladyofgotham]

I might. I'm guessing we can't hide population size from these gods.

[scarletcast]

No, but they do not know everything.

[ladyofgotham]

[Now that puts a spark in her eyes.]

They have blind spots?

[scarletcast]

Yes. Recently there was -- a fog. Someone created it, and the gods could not immediately dispell it or stop what it did to the residents. Even now it is here, merely contained.

[ladyofgotham]

[Fascinating.

And a bit worrying.] What exactly did it do?

[scarletcast]

It created monsters for us.

[ She snorts derisively. ]

As if there are not enough already. The person responsible wanted a distraction to try and kill one of the gods.

[ladyofgotham]

And they didn't mind if anyone else was caught in the crossfire? [There's something righteously indignant in her tone. Collateral damage is irresponsible.]

[scarletcast]

[ Thoughtful, ]

I did not get that impression. Still. The effect was clear.

[ladyofgotham]

But not enough. [She can imagine how frustrating that was.]

[scarletcast]

No. Not enough.

[ She regards Barbara with some curiosity. that has been quite a few questions, not all of them the mark of a confused newcomer. ]

What did you do at home, Barbara?

[ladyofgotham]

[That's generally what she tries to avoid, but tactics need to change with circumstances.

Which isn't to say she's showing all her cards. She might well not be physically capable.]

I'm actually a writer, primarily, focusing on historical and modern crime. But I dedicate a lot of time to activism. [A wry, weary smile.] My city needs it.
