Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ And Victor's expression just darkens at the idea of the Door bringing in things that weren't human. The possibility of vampires and witches yet again darkening their doorstep was enough to make him fume. But, then again...to the best of his knowledge, Vanessa wasn't here. And, even in the end, this was all about her.

Perhaps this time would be different. Of course, that didn't mean he had to like those inhuman creatures. ]

I have experience with inhuman things masquerading as people, [ simply said as he still scowled. ] They're interesting, but their personality and sheer viciousness stop any sort of useful study I can make from them.

[ aka Victor knows he'll lose in a fight of him vs. vampire. There's a reason why he's mostly worked on dead and captive ones. ]

[scarletcast]

[ It is telling, that a study is where his mind goes first when she mentions it, and that not human means monsters and not aliens, or robots. ]

That is what you do?

[ She has no high opinion of Strucker or List; Stark is an engineer. Bruce will handle this with far more diplomacy than her. ]

[pullback]

Most of what I do is surgery. It's due to the actions of some acquaintances of mine that I've been drafted stopping creatures of the night.

[ said in a slightly grumpy tone of voice. Dammit Vanessa, he's a doctor not a fighter. But at the same time...if it means he can help protect some people, he's fine with that. And it REALLY is interesting seeing the vampires, witches, etc.

and also most of what he does is raise the dead BUT DETAILS. ]

[scarletcast]

[ There's a sharp noise, definitely amusement. ]

You will be at home here, then.

[ For a given definition of home. They all try to keep busy. ]

I can bring you any samples you want. These creatures are not a problem for me.

[pullback]

[ He gives Wanda a look that's pure "suuuuuuuure." He doubts Wanda can kill the creature with bullets or swords (there's that old fashioned period sexism coming through). But he's met some women with inhuman power, more magic than anything else...perhaps that's Wanda. ]

Do not strain yourself if you're placed in a difficult situation or get over your head. That said, I would like samples.

[scarletcast]

[ She rolls her eyes. Displaying them now would be petty, and she's not a show off by nature. Power has a use, and there is no use for it now. ]

One of each I can find, then.

[pullback]

I...don't entirely know where I'll be staying yet, but I heard there was a clinic? There is a good chance you will find me there.

[ Victor can't help but look a bit worried as he thinks. Where exactly is he going to stay? ]

[scarletcast]

You see those spires?

[ Of different sizes, in the direction she points in. ]

Those are the usual apartments. There may be roommates, depending on where you choose to stay.

[pullback]

[ Victor can't help but frown because ew, roommates. He doesn't wanna deal with roommates, no way no how. ]

But we can choose to room by ourselves, correct?

[ this is obviously high priority considering how disgusted he is by the idea of roommates. ]

[scarletcast]

[ She casts him a sidelong glance. ]

Yes.

[pullback]

Oh thank heavens, [ Victor says, OBVIOUSLY relieved as he lets out a small exhale. ]

[scarletcast]

[ It is, generally, wiser to stick in groups out here, but perhaps the man has some bizarre quirk or the other, or just like to make his own office space at home. ]

Be careful of the food and water. They are not always safe for us.

[pullback]

[ It's because he's a slob and a weirdo with no friends, Wanda. That's it. ]

Well it's a strange new world. I'd imagine that some of the food developed in a way that isn't fit for human consumption.

[scarletcast]

[ Shh preserve his aura of mystery. ]

You would be right. We do tests at the clinic whenever there is something new.

[pullback]

[ ~he's mysterious~ ]

And I assume new things arrive on a regular basis as well?

[scarletcast]

Every month, the door opens. New people come through, and so do new monsters.

[pullback]

[ well, that is...worrying. ]

Do those new monsters come from the same world as the people?

[scarletcast]

[ Dryly, ]

Do you recognise those things around?

[pullback]

I do not. I'm simply... [ Worried those from his world will show up ] ...curious.

[scarletcast]

It is possible.

[ Which probably doesn't assuage his concerns, but Wanda is direct, not tactful. ]

What will come through from your world?

[pullback]

Why do you think something would come from my world in the first place?

[ because he is a BAD LIAR. ]

[scarletcast]

[ She doesn't have Natasha's unimpressed eyebrows, but Wanda is doing a good impression. ]

What makes you think something will not?

[pullback]

I never said anything would arrive from my world or it wouldn't. I'm simply curious.

[ however, based on how huffy and frowny he is, it's super easy to see that Wanda hit the nail on the head. ]

[scarletcast]

[ Then there is obviously something to worry about from his world. Wanda isn't about to press if he won't talk, and she's far from the person who'd merely have reached in and taken it from his head. Everyone has secrets. She gives him a searching look, however, eyes narrowed, and simply says, ]

I read minds.

[ Everyone has secrets, but he better not lie about it when it matters. ]

[pullback]

[ Paaaaaaaaaaause. Because she's gotta be joking. Right? ]

Surely you're joking.

[ but then at the same time, he came from a world of vampires and witches and things that Victor didn't think existed to begin with. She might not be joking. ]
