Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ Of different sizes, in the direction she points in. ]

Those are the usual apartments. There may be roommates, depending on where you choose to stay.

[pullback]

[ Victor can't help but frown because ew, roommates. He doesn't wanna deal with roommates, no way no how. ]

But we can choose to room by ourselves, correct?

[ this is obviously high priority considering how disgusted he is by the idea of roommates. ]

[scarletcast]

[ She casts him a sidelong glance. ]

Yes.

[pullback]

Oh thank heavens, [ Victor says, OBVIOUSLY relieved as he lets out a small exhale. ]

[scarletcast]

[ It is, generally, wiser to stick in groups out here, but perhaps the man has some bizarre quirk or the other, or just like to make his own office space at home. ]

Be careful of the food and water. They are not always safe for us.

[pullback]

[ It's because he's a slob and a weirdo with no friends, Wanda. That's it. ]

Well it's a strange new world. I'd imagine that some of the food developed in a way that isn't fit for human consumption.

[scarletcast]

[ Shh preserve his aura of mystery. ]

You would be right. We do tests at the clinic whenever there is something new.

[pullback]

[ ~he's mysterious~ ]

And I assume new things arrive on a regular basis as well?

[scarletcast]

Every month, the door opens. New people come through, and so do new monsters.

[pullback]

[ well, that is...worrying. ]

Do those new monsters come from the same world as the people?

[scarletcast]

[ Dryly, ]

Do you recognise those things around?

[pullback]

I do not. I'm simply... [ Worried those from his world will show up ] ...curious.

[scarletcast]

It is possible.

[ Which probably doesn't assuage his concerns, but Wanda is direct, not tactful. ]

What will come through from your world?

[pullback]

Why do you think something would come from my world in the first place?

[ because he is a BAD LIAR. ]

[scarletcast]

[ She doesn't have Natasha's unimpressed eyebrows, but Wanda is doing a good impression. ]

What makes you think something will not?

[pullback]

I never said anything would arrive from my world or it wouldn't. I'm simply curious.

[ however, based on how huffy and frowny he is, it's super easy to see that Wanda hit the nail on the head. ]

[scarletcast]

[ Then there is obviously something to worry about from his world. Wanda isn't about to press if he won't talk, and she's far from the person who'd merely have reached in and taken it from his head. Everyone has secrets. She gives him a searching look, however, eyes narrowed, and simply says, ]

I read minds.

[ Everyone has secrets, but he better not lie about it when it matters. ]

[pullback]

[ Paaaaaaaaaaause. Because she's gotta be joking. Right? ]

Surely you're joking.

[ but then at the same time, he came from a world of vampires and witches and things that Victor didn't think existed to begin with. She might not be joking. ]

[scarletcast]

[ B| ]

I am not.

[pullback]

[ pause

paaaaaaause

paaaaaaaaaaaaaaause

no, fuck it, Victor gives up, let's tell her. ]

My world has vampires and witches. I'd hate to see them arrive in this world.

[scarletcast]

[ She nods. ]

There is no way to predict, but we can be ready for them.

[pullback]

If those creatures show up, I'll certainly tell everyone their strengths and weaknesses.

[ key word here is "if". Victor's still trying to get used to the 'everybody's okay with monsters' thing. ]

[scarletcast]

That would help. Thank you.

[ She waves in the direction of a building that's much better put together than the others around. ]

There is the clinic.

[pullback]

So it is. [ And oh thank God, it actually looks like it's in one piece. Victor's expression is still that same calm expression, though there's a hint of a smile. ]

Thank you for your help, Miss— [ wait a moment, he doesn't know her name. ] Well I'm, ah, terribly sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Doctor Victor Frankenstein.

[ said with the confidence of someone who knows JACK SHIT about the popular perception of Frankenstein. ]

[scarletcast]

[ Wanda's surprise is brief. The year — it's possible he's the real thing, but raising the dead after all she's seen is not so implausible. ]
