As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.
Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.
Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers July 10th-15th.

He doesn't expect to actually find Hannah. He's come every month, knowing that it would be impossible for her or Beth to appear, but unable to stop himself. So at first he doesn't understand what he's hearing. He recognizes her voice, of course, but - it's impossible. It has to be impossible.
It isn't. He catches sight of her, and whoever else might be in the arena stops mattering. Josh runs, and he does not bother to stop and ask permission before reaching out to catch her in a tight hug.]

Josh? [ Instinctively, she returns the hug, eyes wide and mind struggling to process. Of course he'd chased after her - them. Of course he'd run out into the woods to try and save his little sisters.
She squeezes him reassuringly. I'm here, you're here. We're gonna be okay. ]
You fell down here, too. [ Not a question, but a sympathetic statement. ] Josh, it isn't just me. Beth found me, she fell down here, too. Maybe... she went looking for a way back up? For some help?
[ They'd fallen together, so her twin has to be nearby. Beth wouldn't leave her for long, not after what happened. ]

He doesn't know what to say, how to start. If he even should. But the basics... maybe that's all right.]
She's not here. Or I haven't seen her, anyway. This is someplace else - it's not the mountain.
[That's safe. It's true, and it's not treading on any of the ground that Josh instinctively flinches from. He pulls back, looks her over.]
Are you okay? You're not hurt?
[She looks pretty much okay, not - not the way she'd look if she'd fallen. If it had happened.]

[ That has to be what he means. Hannah frowns slightly at him, thinking of the last she'd seen him, which... hadn't been very long ago. Hours, maybe. He'd been drinking - drunk - with Chris, nearly asleep over the counter.
Did he know what their friends were planning? He couldn't have, him or Beth, or they wouldn't have let it happen. ]
I'm fine, Josh. [ Hannah says firmly, trying to convince both herself and her brother. ] But, Beth has to be here somewhere. We both... fell. I thought it'd be bad, but nothing hurts. I think-- [ She swallows, reaches instinctively to squeeze the sleeve of her coat. ] ... I think the jacket helped.
[ Beth had given it up, so she could be worse off. Hannah isn't able to hide her agitation anymore and starts looking around, voice urgent. ]
We have to look, she could be really hut.

[He reaches out to catch her shoulders, to keep her attention focused on him. He knows what it's like trying to make sense of this place, though of course he arrived here in a rather different mental state. One that he's still kind of in, right now, looking at her.
She's alive.
But he's gotta get this stuff set straight, he knows. Before things get weird.]
We're not under the mountain. We're someplace else, this really weird other place. You came through like - a, a portal or something. I don't know, it's crazy as shit. But we're not home. Beth isn't here.
[She's not anywhere. Or is she? Hannah's here. Maybe Beth could come here. Maybe she could be alive again too. Maybe Josh could get both of his sisters back.]

Where is she, then? [ Hannah asks, trying to stick to one question, one concern at a time. ] Why would I be the only one to... fall through the portal and not her?
[ They'd literally fallen at the same time, after all. It doesn't make sense; none of it makes sense. ]
It is crazy. [ She repeats, shaking her head slowly. ] You're saying we're both stuck in this-- wherever it is? How do we get back?

Maybe she'll come later. Maybe she's waiting at home for us.
[He knows the last part isn't true - can't be - but he wants so badly to believe it.]
We can't get back, not unless they send us back. But it's not so bad here. There's a lot of cool people.
[And he really doesn't want Hannah to want to go back. What is there for her but an awful fate? Hadriel might suck sometimes, but it's a thousand times better.]

[ She has to trust him. If she can trust anybody here, it's her brother. Hannah forces herself to nod, heart still thudding, terrified, in her chest. ]
"Cool people?" [ She asks weakly, almost amused. ] Of course you'd make friends here.
[ Funny, sociable Josh. Hannah sighs softly, crossing her arms, thumbing automatically over her tattoo. ]

Yeah, we're all staying together. Chris and Ash are here. And Emily.
[He doesn't know if that will go over well. Probably not, considering what just happened from Hannah's perspective. But though Josh stewed in his anger for a long time, he knows now how sorry Emily is. He can't hold on to it any longer.]

[ Even those leave a bad taste in her mouth as she remembers the very-recent prank, how nearly all of them had been complicit. Hannah shakes her head briefly. ]
For me? [ It sounds strange, but she just nods mutely and accepts it. Josh seems to have a grasp on this, Josh--... will keep them safe. Keep her safe. ]
Okay. [ She breathes. ] So, we should go there, right?

[He's not quite sure how to start explaining the way people leave and arrive - especially because he doesn't want to think about what will happen to Hannah if she ever leaves. She can't.]
Yeah, I'll show you where it is. It'll be way safer than wandering around here anyway.
[Monsters. Josh isn't a fan. Well, he kind of is, because they're badass, but getting eaten sounds like something that would not be very much fun.]

What's... here? [ She questions quietly. Meaning, what's in these caves that makes them unsafe? Hannah thinks of the man on the mountain, the one with the flamethrower. She thinks of... whatever it was that he'd been aiming at.
She shivers. ]

[Josh is going to make sure that happens. He isn't going to let her die again - no matter what it takes, he won't. He doesn't think he could handle that again, not when he's finally gotten the chance to make up for his failure in taking care of her at home.
But even with that in mind, she shouldn't walk around oblivious.]
Sometimes there are monsters. Crazy shit like that, and gods too, weird guys who like to mess with us. But it's okay as long as you're careful.

Again, she remembers him asleep on the counter while the others pranked her and has to force the memory down. ]

[Josh has always considered himself relatively badass - not that he got in a lot of fights or anything, but he thought he could handle himself. He's definitely redefined his ideas on those kinds of things since he got here.]
A lot of them are pretty okay, so if anything crazy happens they should watch your back. Or like, teach you how to use a sword or something if you want. Go all Xena.
[He's a little iffy about that idea, but honestly it's better than leaving her defenseless. Anything's better than that.]

I'm not sure I'd be good with a sword. [ She admits, though anyone could guess that. ] Maybe something else, though.
[ She'd always thought it'd be a good idea to get into some kind of self-defense. ]

[So weird how that happens...
Really, Josh wishes she didn't have to worry about her own safety at all. But now that Hannah is here, to him it's the most important thing. He's failed her once, he isn't going to do it again, whether that means making sure she's safe or talking her into learning some kind of self-defense.]

[As casual as Josh tries to act, that's all he wants - for Hannah to be safe. He knows it's a miracle she's here at all, and after what happened at home, he isn't going to let anything happen again. Not if he can help it.]
And we'll all make sure Chris doesn't kill himself in a tragic skateboarding accident.
