Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers July 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[ Happily, the despair seems to have depleted itself, leaving behind only Lir-the-lump and his fumbling efforts to bring himself up and together. He prevails in a sad, dragged out end, still half crouching with his hands slapped on his knees, short of breath. But when he looks up, he's smiling, strained. ]

No. Not yet. But I'm sure I should like to be.

[ After all, good Victor must of formidable character, if many who find his door seek him out on fine terms. Lir can never hurt for a kind friend. For now, he sticks to the ones he can name, thoughtfully: ]

I am friend to Schmendrick. And to Molly Grue. [ Ah. Wait. ] Are they here, by chance? You might know them. They are... not particular of face or manner. No better nor worse than any sorcerer or maid you might find. They walk, perhaps, slower than many, but still faster than some.

[ This is, in fact, as precisely descriptive as he cares to come. ]

[Wow. This guy is already one of the most interesting people Elmer's met in Hadriel yet. He smiles widely at Lir, offering him a hand up to stand if he'd like the help.]

Afraid not. I think I'd remember a name like Schmendrick. Or a sorcerer! There are a lot of types of people around here, though, so it's quite possible they slipped under my radar. What makes you think they were here, though?

[ The hand, then. He watches it curiously, first in wonder at its presence, then in brief puzzle for its purpose. It's meant to give him help, he supposes, only — should a hero trouble another sol in his moment of weakness? Should a hero have petty weaknesses at all?

He cannot say.

Hesitantly, Lir's fingers grasp the very tips of the man's, mostly catching on nail. Then, just as faintly, he lends some of his weight, pushing himself up with slow care. ]

A sorcerer places himself on whatever path he wishes. Like the sun, or a cat. Who's to say he'd not place himself here?

[Elmer grabs him when he finally reaches out, and helps haul him to his feet as best he can, smiling the same smile the whole while.]

I'll take your word on that. But, I'm afraid that it's not here, unfortunately for the both of us. I'd really like to meet an honest-to-goodness sorcerer. People here have all sorts of amazing powers, but I don't think any of them are straight-up magicians. None that I've met, anyway.

[ Ah, the keen advantages of a vertical position: Lir thinks he can almost feel his blood flow in a natural course.

Once up, he pulls himself more or less together, a puppet on strings that seem to have been cut too long ago, leaving his limbs hanging aimlessly. Composure might not be his strongest suit.

Conversationally: ]

I've heard magicians turn to other trades once they're long short of employ. Have you asked if your friends were once war-waging dark sorcerers, or warden wizards of the light?

I guess you've got me there. I haven't. And honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if some of them were, with the things they get up to.

[Some of them were as close as one could get to being a wizard in his world. Or at least they've accomplished the occasional wizard-like feats. Elmer shoves his hands in his pockets, rocking on his feet as he thinks this over.]

Too bad only one of them is here. In this city, I mean; he's not in at the moment. But Victor always came off as a bit too serious-minded for wizardry if you ask me. I guess that means I'll just have to ask around here and see if I can meet one. Is that what you're doing, then? Going door-to-door looking for wizards? Or just that particular one you mentioned?
