hadriel_logs | Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ There's movement in the shadows, and the sounds of snarling and dragging claws, now that she's listening for them. ]

Down the warrior's tunnel, but it's dark enough in there and the corridors twist. I wouldn't risk it if you're not armed. We should go through the stands.

[She shakes her head, sighing quietly.]

I don't have anything. I'll follow you?

[ He's got a knife on each hip -- he takes them both out and offers her one. Just in case. ]

Here.

I'm Pell, by the way. Welcome to the cave. I'll explain more when we're out.

[ He starts leading her up the stands, steering clear of the shadows and sounds. ]

[She accepts the offered knife with a silent breath of relief. This was more comfortable. Safer.]

Thanks. I'm Jo.

[She does her best to keep up with the helpful stranger, hoping they get out safely.]

[ They've made it 2/3 of the way up towards the exit when one of the deathclaws gets tired of lurking and leaps out from its shadow cover. Pell startles and lifts a hand, blasting the creature with a stream of flame.

...it doesn't seem to care all that much. ]

[Holy shit. Jo tries to get ready to fight, but then there's a stream of flames and-

Magic? Or what...?

She realizes she isn't back home but it still sets her on edge about Pell.]

Maybe something else?

[ He leaves his hand up, and the creature seems to be held at bay for the moment. Very unhappily at bay, clawing at the air. ]

...we could make a run for it. Unless you're brave enough to dart in and try to stab it.

[Jo looks down at the knife in her hand and takes a deep breath.]

Can you hold it? [It's too tall for her to get to its head, but she can still try to take it out.]

[ He tucks his knife away and raises his other hand, and the creature's arms stop swinging. It's still snarling and looking at them murderously, but it's held still for now. As long as another one doesn't come to its aid, they should be fine. ]

Quickly-- it's strong!

[Jo nods, taking a deep breath before she runs forward and slashes at the creature's stomach. Hopefully it's enough to eventually take it down.]

[ It's got a vulnerable belly, probably because the claws could eviscerate anything that gets close enough... if it could move, that is. She gets it, alright, and Pell feels the monster sag against his hold and shoves it backwards and away where it lies writhing on the ground. ]

Are you alright? Hurry, before the blood draws more.

I'm fine. [Her hands are covered in blood, which might complicate things, but she's ready to go and she hurries past the downed beast without another word.]

[ They make it the rest of the way out trouble-free, and Pell guides her into an abandoned shop -- like most of them, Jo will come to know. ]

They'll make their way from the colosseum to the tunnels outside the city. They rarely come into buildings, we're safe now.

...you're very brave.

[Jo looks around for a moment before nodding. She could believe that. It did seem as if this person had more experience here. She would defer to that for now.]

Thanks. I had to try.

Are there monsters where you're from? Most people aren't so capable when they first see one.

Yeah, but not like these. [Honestly her hands are shaking a little from the adrenaline rush of going up against something so big with such a small weapon, but she survived and that's the important thing.

She holds out the knife.]

Thanks for the loan.

Like what?

[ When she holds it out he sees that her hands are bloody -- he looks around for something she could clean them with. It looks like they wound up in a market, not much cloth to be seen. He offers her the corner of his cloak -- he can wash it later. ]

You can get your own after the arrival rush calms down. There's plenty of weapons here. No guns, but blades and the like.

Ghosts, vampires. Demons. That kind of thing. [She hates to get someone else's clothing dirty, but she wipes her hands clean the best she can before nodding a thank you.]

No guns? That sucks.

You wouldn't call that creature a demon?

Some people came with their own, but the only way to get ammo is to go hunting and leave a corpse on Rage's altar. One clip per body.

It's a creature. Demons take over humans. [Well, at least in her world. She shrugs.]

So I'm not going to get a shotgun, huh? [This sucks.]

Like possession?

No shotgun, unless someone who showed up with one chooses to give it to you. And that's unlikely.

Yeah, possession.

[At Pell's next words she frowns.]

Figures. I wouldn't give it up if I had one.

I didn't think that sort of thing was real -- I should have known better.

I'll take you to the armory for something more archaic. You seem like you can handle blades.

Where's the armory? If you can tell me I'll go alone. [She doesn't want to take more of his time.]

[ He reaches into his pocket and brings up a little map on his device. ]

We're here, and it's down this way. [ He trails a path with his finger. ] But I'll take you, that's near to the clinic and I should get some supplies and come back to the colosseum. This month's monsters are... especially vicious.
