What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.
As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.
Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.
Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers July 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

he holds out a hand in her direction in hopes of catching her attention, just in case she hasn't already seen
his giant moose formhim in the distance. ) Did you just wake up?( he realizes, before the words are fully out of his mouth that it's a moot question, but sometimes the easiest way to initiate conversation is to comment or question the obvious. break the ice, so to speak. keep things neutral. )

What's he doing here? ]
... Yeah. [ Comes the hesitant, wary response. Hannah keeps her distance, eyeing Sam like a hawk. ] I fell down here. But I'm fine.
[ Not hurt in any way she can see, sharp enough to be suspicious of friendly-seeming strangers on a private mountain. ]
What are you doing here?
i'm so sorry if the moose scares you, hannah. ;;
waking up in unfamiliar territory is jarring enough. and she more than has the deer-in-the-headlights look about her. he doesn't want to make things worse. ) You didn't fall, I guarantee you. ( he realizes how ludicrous he must sound, but he's so sure of himself that there has to be some truth to it. maybe she'll think that here is. ) There's only one way into the city, and that's through the Door. You were brought here.
( he gives the smallest shrug in a roll of his shoulder, and absently rubs at the back of his neck. ) Sometimes I come down here when it's time for the new arrivals to come through. See if I can help. ( a beat. ) My name's Sam.
sam pls you are way too tall for life
What city? [ And what "Door?" Hannah watches him closely, but confusion and concern overtake suspicion. She's anything if not naive. ] How do you know all that stuff?
[ He's got to live in whatever city he's talking about, or he thinks that he does, anyway. There's no way there could be any city under the mountain. ]
My name's Hannah. [ And he introducing himself makes her wonder where her own Sam is. ] Have you seen another girl around? My sister Beth fell down here with me.
oh ... well where's the lie, tbh ...
and here come the questions, the ones they always ask first, and he hates to think that he's been here long enough to be able to answer them - but six months is a really long time, and he can't deny that he's learned a lot during his time here. ) It's called Hadriel. And it's technically underground, even if you can't really tell. Not at first. ( unless you start thinking about all of this artificial lighting and a handful of other little things that add up once you're paying closer attention.
his mouth pulls to the side in the ghost of a frown; he doesn't like admitting that he hasn't seen anyone that the new arrivals are looking for - and so far, there hasn't been much of a change in his luck. ) I've been here for six months ... you learn a lot when there's not much to do but sit on your hands and wait for something to happen. ( and when something does happen, it's never good.
there's a beat of a pause, and then - ) You're the first person I've seen so far, but that doesn't mean she isn't here - or that she won't show up later. I was here for a while before my brother came through.

Six months? [ Hannah questions finally, distinctly uncomfortable. ] Are you-- are we trapped down here?
[ No, no, no way. That just sounds like one of her father's crazy movies, and Hannah isn't even a fan of horror movies. ]
I heard something. [ She remembers, putting all her concern into that instead of into her suspicion of Sam, at least for the moment. ] Um, an animal. It sounded... like it was shrieking. I didn't see it, but I think it might be something dangerous.
[ The mountain has wolves and bears and stuff, so... why not one more, weirder thing, right? ]

sometimes both, in no particular order. ) For lack of a better word, yeah. I'm sorry. ( there's never any real nice way to break that kind of news, and an apology certainly won't be enough to soften the blow - especially when he personally hadn't had anything to do with bringing people through the door.
it's just ... kind of a knee-jerk reaction. saying i'm sorry is better than saying nothing at all, right?
he's never really thought of this place seeming like being stuck in a horror film, but if that little idea had ever come to light, he wouldn't be able to unthink it. it wouldn't be unmerited. )
Maybe it's not so bad that you're here, now, then. At least you're safe. ( for the moment.
optimism! )

Maybe. [ She says quietly, not believing it. She glances around Sam, as if hoping for someone else to appear, but they don't. At least, not yet. Hannah heaves a sigh, shivering faintly, despite the puffy, pink coat. ]
What... do I do now? [ The girl asks after a pause, glancing warily to Sam. It isn't as if there are clear directions or signs pointing toward true safety, if it even exists in these caves. ] Where do I go?
[ "How do I get back?" That answer isn't one she thinks she's ready to hear. ]
