Event Post: Ghosts That We Know

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Ghosts That We Know event
Where: All over the city!
When: June 21st-29th
Warnings: Emotional trauma, ghost murder, long slow deaths

It's been awhile since something really awful happened. Or maybe it hasn't - maybe you had a really awful day just yesterday. Don't worry! Things can always get worse. And they sure will, because when you awaken on June 21st, you'll find yourself haunted.

Maybe it's a relative, someone who raised you and loved you deeply. Maybe it's a friend, someone close to your heart. Maybe it's a former - or current - lover, someone you've given your affection to. Maybe a mentor, a coworker, a person who doesn't even know you love them. Whoever they are, they're someone who matters very much to you - and now you're seeing them where you shouldn't. They're haunting you, taking each step alongside you, and they're exactly like the one you love.

Over time, you'll feel yourself growing weaker as the ghost gains strength. Being able to see your loved ones again is a double-edged sword, because they're sucking the life from you. What are you going to do? Die, so that they can live? Or kill them to preserve your own life? And what do they want you to do?

By the 26th, the ghosts will have taken enough energy from you to be solid. That means you won't be the only one who can interact with them anymore - and maybe your friends here have opinions of their own about what should happen to that ghost draining your life away. But hopefully someone will do something, or else you'll die along with your ghost on the final day of the event.

Hey, didn't we get a few psychologists here in our cave city? Man, you guys are gonna be booked up after this one.

► This log covers June 21st-29th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you can't bring yourself to murder someone you love, no one else is around to lend a hand, and you die - please let us know here.

[Magnus knows he's the only one that can see Julia right now. Really, the logic of it seems to make sense in his head. Of course his wife's a ghost. She's long dead. And he can see her because he loves her. Obviously. It makes sense in his head, but he doesn't give voice to it, afraid the logic will start to fall apart and the spell will break. He's fine like this. This isn't like the hallucinations of the jumpscares before. She's really here, and she's just like he remembers. That's all that matters to him.

So he's leading her around Hadriel, showing her what she's missed since he's been here, when he notices a glowing green light. Curious, he leads her towards it.
]

Uhh, this is... You know, I don't know who this is, but he sure looks worth checking out, [he explains halfheartedly, with a laugh, to the air beside him.]

Don't be rude! I'm sure he can hear you, [the invisible, inaudible woman protests.]

I'm not being rude! What's up, dude! I mean, uh, hail and well met! Cool armor! Real, uh, horror show chic! I'm into it!

[Julia rolls her eyes, folding her arms and shaking her head at her husband's antics.] I can't take you anywhere.

[Magnus just laughs, seemingly apropos of nothing, and squeezes an invisible shoulder.]

[ Sinclair looks up first, mostly by virtue of actually being able to turn his head-- he's already looking Magnus over, one eyebrow raised. He doesn't have to point him out to Delta at least, although it takes his host a few seconds more to turn to face him. He preemptively deletes the message he was working on, making a note to try and remember the gist of it for later. ]

I'm gonna go on ahead an' assume you're not familiar with this particular customer.

[ He shrugs, and his light flickers an indecisive yellow for a moment. Why was this guy talking as though he was alone? Sinclair was right there-- although considering the fact that Magnus was talking to empty air, perhaps there was an easy explanation for that. Was he alright? He was...grabbing at nothing, not to mention the unprompted laughter. He could have been down here for who knows how long, and isolation was...unpleasant. ]
[ The ghost at his side shoots him a questioning glance, a little more suspicious than concerned. These caves were no Rapture, but there's still just as strong of a chance that the inhabitants weren't as they seemed. Sinclair eventually leans back, resolving to simply keep an eye on the situation for now. Magnus was without a doubt out of his league for a physical confrontation, although he had no doubt Delta could manage. ]

Kind of a funny way to say hello, but hey-- he's not all spliced up, an' that's a good sign. If he winds up bein' a problem, though? My money's on you.

[ Delta fumbles with his phone, straightening up with a muffled grunt. Typing's a little easier now that he's had some time to warm up, and soon enough, he slides it toward Magnus, complete with a short message on the screen. ]
well. hi
are you okay

[Magnus watches, grinning a little awkwardly as he's treated with complete silence for his troubles. His eyes travel back to Julia, who glances at him.]

Maybe he didn't hear us. --You. Just you, I keep forgetting.

[Just as Magnus is about to repeat himself, though, the strangely armored man straightens up and starts typing in his metal thing. "Phone," Magnus reminds himself once again. It's called a phone. Like two people had to explain that to him already. It's just not a catchy word. Got no oomph to it.

He squints at the message on the screen, then realization dawns on him visibly.
]

Ohhhh. Sorry, didn't know you're, uh, unable to talk? Like, with a voice? That's cool, that's cool. And I wouldn't worry about me, I'm extremely normal right now. Being followed around by the ghost of my wife, sure, but hey, I try to roll with the punches.

[Julia, who knows she can't be seen by now, simply clasps her hands behind her back and walks around the armored man, looking him over. He sure looks like he'd be a tough customer to get on the wrong side of, but he's being friendly, so that shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Magnus glances between her and Delta.
]

Uh, I'm Magnus Burnsides, also known as the Hammer, and the magical invisible woman... that's hovering around behind you for some reason, [he smirks when he hears her instant laugh before continuing,] is Julia. You probably can't see her, but just imagine the most beautiful woman in the world, and you might get an idea.

Don't embarrass me in front of strangers!

[Delta and Sinclair are gladly spared having to sit through both sides of a reunited couple's incessant flirting, but on the other hand, they're getting Magnus' half of it, which has traditionally been the harder half to bear. Julia, at least, has some shame left in her. Magnus is fresh out.]
