If it's your first time here, congratulations! You get the lovely, unique sensation of eating dirt as the Door knocks you facefirst into the ground. You'll probably be a little woozy at first, so take your time getting up- meet some folks, introduce yourself, don't be weird about it. Welcome to Hadriel! You're not the only person who just got to taste alien dirt firsthand, though- there are several people in the same predicament as you, so feel free to say hi! Probably shouldn't spend too much time talking though, because the lovely trees that you thought were just scenery are starting to creep ever closer the more you let your guard down.
All around you is a forest of spooky evil trees- it seems to be just a normal sort of forest at first, but the more you take your eyes off of them, the more they shift around you and close in. Or is that just your imagination? If you move too close to one, look out! They're rather determined to pick you up and stick you into the ground so you might take root- and if you resist, well, a severed bud can still serve as a seed, right?
If the trees tear your clothes though, don't worry, there's plenty of extras to be found lying around the arena if you don't mind them being a bit dirty. Lying on the ground and sometimes hanging off of these tree branches are some free shirts, yours for the taking! You know, if you'd be caught dead with one...
But hey, after you've met new friends and found a new aesthetic, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers October 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[Being thrashed around and bloody seems to be a common occurrence in this place. Which is of very little comfort to him, but at least he's not the only one?
He can't help but notice her state of dress though. He starts unbuttoning his coat and moves to offer it to her. It's very dirty, which he feels bad about, but as a temporary fix until she finds something more akin to her liking it might be alright?]
Would you like to borrow my coat while you look for something... [Less... revealing?]
no subject
[well, hers happened before arriving here, if that makes him feel any better?
she raises an eyebrow when he offers her his coat, people have acted weird about what she's wearing, but no one's actually offered to help her do anything about it]
Yeah? You're a gentleman. That's sweet. [takes the coat and shrugs it on, then goes back to looking through the clothes]
I'm Laura Palmer. What's your name?
no subject
Mine? It's the same general concept I suppose? [Really though. The thing in his hand might as well be a brick for all he knows how to work it.]
It just opens on a hinge of sorts to reveal a numeric pad of buttons you can dial? It was more similar to a landline phone. [It's just an outdated flip phone by today's standards, but he knew how to use it which was all that really mattered to him in a phone.]
Ja, of course. [He waves off the compliment-- really. A young lady shouldn't have to walk around like that. Especially in such a strange place as this.] Bitte, think nothing of it.
I'm. [Austria pauses for a moment. He doesn't really want to get into a long winded discussion about nationhood depending on just how much European geography Laura might know. That seems like a hassle. Or explain what Austria was to her incase she knew nothing at all about it-- not that he would blame her for that.]
Roderich Edelstein.

I thought it was a fancy calculator at first, but I can't get it to run. [same for Laura. she's heard of car phones, but this looks nothing like the latest 1989 technology, so as far as she's concerned, it's useless]
A landline phone? Like a real phone you can use to talk to people with?
All right. I'm not having much luck with the clothing here. I mean, what is this? [holds up a tshirt with YOLO written on it. the Os are happy faces]
It's very nice to meet you, Roderich.
no subject
I think they can actually be calculators as well? [There's something entirely surreal about him explaining cell phone technology to someone else.] It's the same thing as a typical house phone. You're just able to be take it with you wherever you are and it fits in your pocket.
I'm sure there must be someone here who can show us at least how to make phone calls. [He'll drop his phone into his vest pocket for now and turn his attention to the shirt Laura's holding.]
... yolow? [How do you even say that?] I have no idea. Maybe it's a misprinting? [Now that he's looking at these shirts though, they all seem more than a little odd.]
Perhaps they're all misprints and that's why they're being offered for free? [Maybe he should take a few for himself in that case. He could use them for a sewing project of some sort. Underwear patches at the very least.]
Likewise, Frau Palmer. You wouldn't happen to know where it is exactly that we've ended up, would you?
no subject
Oh. So like a smaller car phone or a fancier walkie-talkie.
I hope so. I don't know many people here yet but I'd imagine that will change.
Maybe it's in another language? I never was any good at that kind of thing. [she puts the tshirt back down and resumes sifting through the clothes, finally finding an oddly frumpy sweater set and skirt that she hangs onto. it's a stark contrast from the lingerie she's currently wearing]
I honestly don't. I remember [being murdered] shutting my eyes and opening them here.
no subject
[Austria frowns a bit at that explanation. Everyone seems to have been doing something entirely different in completely unique places-- yet they've all ended up here.]
I can't say I can recall how exactly I ended up here either. [And he tended to get lost quite often even.]
no subject
[what are the odds of so many people from so many different backgrounds ending up in the same place?]
Really? That's weird. What's the last thing you remember before coming here?
no subject
I believe... [Austria thinks back contemplatively. When he arrived here he had his briefcase-- before the trees decided to hold it hostage-- which meant he must have been doing actual work in some capacity. Ah.]
I must have been leaving work for the day, but I had an errand to run. [He gestures to the violin case he's been holding on to.] The fingerboard of my violin had become worn down so I'd taken it to be repaired earlier in the week. I must have lost my way trying to return home from the repair shop...
[Which honestly is entirely plausible to him. Just. He's never gotten himself this lost before or with this many people simultaneously.]
no subject
[Laura's tale of how she got here is nowhere near as pleasant]
You speak multiple languages and you play violin. You must be very smart. [she picks out another outfit, a (NSFW link) black vinyl dress] I haven't even finished high school yet.
no subject
[It's pretty unremarkable what you can accomplish in your free time when you've lived for a few centuries.]
You're in high school--[Austria glances at the vinyl dress, clearing his throat. He's not judging! She should wear what she wants to! Obviously, but. Ah.]--er. You're American then?
no subject
Yeah, I'm a Senior and as all-American as you can get.
no subject
In Europe, we're all rather crammed in on top of one another. Picking up another language bordering us is just something that occurs out of habit, honestly.
[Unless you happen to be France and are a complete language snob over anything that isn't French.]
I see. [She certainly shares traits with the America he knows-- she seems like infinitely more pleasant company though. She knows how to speak at volume levels other than loud for one.]
It's a rather large place isn't it? Whereabouts do you come from [That you can wear vinyl dresses and corsets in public with such reckless abandon]?
(cw: sexual reference)
[no, her voice is pitched like she's trying to sound shyer and less confident than she actually is]
I'm from Twin Peaks in Washington. Lived there all my life. [actually, the corset is from a private sex party she'd gone to and the dress is for nights on the town, so to speak]
no subject
It's alright. [He's not offended.] I certainly couldn't name all those states without a map, myself.
[As if to prove his point, he's not familiar with 'Twin Peaks' at all.] I don't believe I've ever been there in my travels.
no subject
[she laughs a little] That's all right. I know the major ones, like Texas, Florida, Alaska, and Hawaii, but the rest? [she shakes her head no]
No? Well, lemme tell you, you're not missing much.
