If it's your first time here, congratulations! You get the lovely, unique sensation of eating dirt as the Door knocks you facefirst into the ground. You'll probably be a little woozy at first, so take your time getting up- meet some folks, introduce yourself, don't be weird about it. Welcome to Hadriel! You're not the only person who just got to taste alien dirt firsthand, though- there are several people in the same predicament as you, so feel free to say hi! Probably shouldn't spend too much time talking though, because the lovely trees that you thought were just scenery are starting to creep ever closer the more you let your guard down.
All around you is a forest of spooky evil trees- it seems to be just a normal sort of forest at first, but the more you take your eyes off of them, the more they shift around you and close in. Or is that just your imagination? If you move too close to one, look out! They're rather determined to pick you up and stick you into the ground so you might take root- and if you resist, well, a severed bud can still serve as a seed, right?
If the trees tear your clothes though, don't worry, there's plenty of extras to be found lying around the arena if you don't mind them being a bit dirty. Lying on the ground and sometimes hanging off of these tree branches are some free shirts, yours for the taking! You know, if you'd be caught dead with one...
But hey, after you've met new friends and found a new aesthetic, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers October 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Why hadn't you said so from the start! All this yelling about burning everything down!
[ As the ents approached, he remained glued to Nah. He'd brought the wrong sort of equipment to deal with hardwood beasts. ]
no subject
[her immediate reflex is to try to shake him off like a bug, but she reconsiders. after a moment of hesitance, she spreads her wings and takes off into the air, still breathing flames down at the trees as they uselessly twist and reach upward with their branches. she'll just assume that Malkus is strong enough to keep holding onto her arm like that.
THEY'RE OUTTA HERE. screw these guys.]
no subject
O-Outside of the arena- s-safe.
[ He stammered, trying to raise his voice enough to be heard. ]
no subject
Yeah, we're safe now. So... you can let go of me.
no subject
Th-Thank you. That was- that was something. G-Goodness- we were- so high up! You're- You're not going to- claim my life, are you? As payment?
no subject
[maybe it'd help if she changed back... so with a brief burst of light, there's a small girl where the dragon once stood. she frowns and folds her arms.]
Look, I get it. I can be pretty fearsome and terrifying, right? But I'm one of the good guys, honest.
Latest tag in history so sorry
[ Malkus huffed, rolling over onto his stomach before shakily rising to his abnormally tall height. 'Least for a human. ]
You can never know- Oh goodness-...
[ He looked down at her. How... cute? At least in comparison to the dragon. He'd never have expected this outcome, so it threw him off of his conversational railing for a bit. ]
Ah-... Ehm... I-I'll concede, you're rather fearsome. Verily. I suppose you've no reason to lie, though. Very well, then! Fantastic!
no worries!
I would think that saving your life would be enough proof that I don't mean any harm. [fortunately, Nah isn't evil enough to consider the concept of double-crossing someone after gaining their trust.]
Anyway, what's up with the mask?
no subject
[ Malkus quickly held his hands up in a pacifying manner. ]
Granted! Granted, there were ents about. As for the mask, it's my heirloom. A protective ward against miasma.
[ He wiggled his digits to emphasize how scary that word ought to be. So far it seemed he was the only one who took sick air seriously! ]
no subject
Anyway, I don't smell anything completely off in the air here. It's musty and kind of stinks, sure, but miasma? I didn't see anyone else wearing masks.
no subject
[ He rubbed his clawed fingers together, silently. And again, when he didn't get the result he wanted. When it grew embarrassingly obvious that he couldn't snap his fingers, he simply made the sound with his mouth. Tcchhk. ]
Like that.
no subject
Okay, okay, well, I really can't criticize someone for trying to be safe. I was just curious about the mask, is all.
[and... she kind of wants to see what's underneath it now.]
no subject
[ He pressed his hands against his face, bashfully. Malkus didn’t want to admit that it was a comfort object at this point. It wasn’t like he was afraid to remove it! It was just so familiar at this point. ]
But you must admit, it’s quite stylish! Custom made, you know.
[ The birdman looked away; sparing himself the skeptical look he’d expected to get. ]
no subject
It is pretty neat, aesthetically. But doesn't it ever get in the way? Like if you're trying to read a book up close and the beak just bumps against the pages?
no subject
Well I can remove it, of course! It does muffle the ears some. H-Hah- there’s also the times where I would try and nap in the park, only to roll and dig the nose into the soil.
[ He mimed brushing at the front of his mask, meticulously keeping it nice and tidy. ]
But I’m always a delight at masquerades. Fit right in!
no subject
The air here is fine. Can I see your face?
[also to make sure there is a face underneath there, and not just something like... an empty void, or a bird, or something else equally unexpected.]
no subject
[ Malkus was reasonably sure that he didn't. But then again, that sounded like something he might say. There was a phase in his young adult life where he had a pathological attachment to the thing. It was surprising that his uniform's lasted as long as it has. ]
You- why? I mean- it's not much. Not to be humble, or anything. I'm not, you know, hideous. I work with what I've got. But what I've got is all I've got.
[ He clearly rambled as he reached up to unfasten the straps that held the mask on. It wasn't a big deal, truly. The request was just rather unexpected. ]
no subject
[in that instance, she literally chased him down like some sort of rabid animal until he relented. good times.]
I don't care if you're good-looking or ugly, honest! I'm just the curious type.
no subject
[ He chimed in, faintly enough that one might not even hear it. Just the curious type, then? Well it wasn't like he'd be hiding from the public anytime soon. The bird doctor paused for a moment, seeming to build the suspense only to completely deflate it by tugging the mask off. Underneath was- ... was...
Nothing particularly odd? Unless one considered a shallow faced, sharp toothed man odd. He pulled his lips into a tight line for a moment. ]
W-Well. Like I said.
[ As he spoke, those jagged teeth became quickly apparent. ]
no subject
Ooh, nice teeth!
[they're sharp! pointy! neat!]
no subject
W-What, really? You think so? I wasn't born with them, you know.
[ He pulled a hand over his mouth, hiding part of his quickly growing grin. ]
But they have come in handy, it's true. W-Well thank you.
[ Should he return a compliment? Malkus finally took a moment to observe the strange woman. ]
no subject
I still think my dragon fangs are more impressive, but that's an unfair comparison. How did you get your teeth like that?
no subject
M-Might I add, I’m a fan of green! Y-Your hair, I mean. It’s-
[ He rolled his hands, trying to get the proper wording out. When the moment dragged on, he quickly diverted back onto the main topic. ]
Impressive indeed! My features are more of a corruption. Though by now, that doesn’t carry as negative a connotation as it used to. Just something I’d learned to live with.
[ Malkus was almost purposely forgetting the visions he had seen weeks ago. Of this taint changing him completely, into a starving monster. ]
no subject
You know, I might have a somewhat similar problem. If I don't go out and rampage for a while now and then, I'll go completely berserk. [it's not an entirely accurate comparison, though. her problem is just genetics.] Maybe you need an outlet, too. Have you considered burning things?
[arson's a good way to blow off steam, right??]
no subject
Y-Yes. Unfortunately.
[ Pent up rage? Did other dragonkin have that? Sadly one of the two he’d known didn’t seem to be around any longer, but Alphys certainly didn’t seem the type for rage. Perhaps it was just... this girl’s thing. ]
I guess that I’m quite thankful I don’t suffer from that- but-
[ Arson? He did like to warm up against a nice fire but anything more seemed a tad dangerous. ]
E-Erm- no I- I haven’t. Does that help?!
