you keep dreaming and i'm scheming
Who: Maketh Tua, Rey, Henry Percy, Lance Sweets, Nick Valentine.
What: Some needed conversations.
Where: Guard Post
When: Nov 10
Warnings: tbd
It's a normal day, so far as Maketh knows. She's got a mug of good coffee, reports that only need marginal corrections before they can be filed, and no one has killed anyone yet. The day is young but she's hopeful. And in a relatively good mood.
She looks up with a faint smile.
"Oh, hello. I wasn't expecting you."

She looks up with a faint smile.
"Oh, hello. I wasn't expecting you."

She exhales sharply. " I dislike this side of you, Henry. Say what you mean."

"In what way was I unclear? I have just told you that the Guard shall directly hinder Hux under my orders in an act which shall have consequences for your weapon plans. Do you truly foresee no conflict between your involvements?"

She tips her head to the side. Her logic is perfectly fine.
"But he is not, and we will have the weapon soon."

Once Henry knew exactly what Maketh meant by that. Yet she forces him to beg like a dog for scraps of her plans, as though they did not build the Guard together.
"So you would use a deliberate act of murder for our ends. Truly?" He doesn't hide his disgust at the notion. "What then? After the god killer is achieved."

"There was honour in the plans we made together. Never once did we speak of sacrificing the people we swore to protect."
He has not forgotten the whole point of fighting the gods — to free everyone of their torment. To seize the Door and secure a way home for those who wished to return, and to ensure a good life for those who wished to stay in Hadriel.
But they know more now than they ever did in the beginning. Does Maketh not grasp the situation they are in? To kill the gods right now is to destroy everyone's futures.
"You conspire with Hux. Would you have us do the Null's bidding as well?"
He prays not.

Henry leans forward, looking her directly in the eyes.
"Do you not see? Either we save the people of this cavern or we kill the gods."

It's said with brutal coolness. She's being objective. There just aren't enough Guardsmen to keep the entire city under watch. Inevitably, someone will die. Why shouldn't they learn from that, if it's going to happen regardless of what they choose?

He shakes his head, a snarl of frustration catching in his throat.
"I am warning you against this road, sister."
He pleas.
That is the last thing he has to say, but he remains to hear her reply. Even if they disagree, even when they clash over morality, he respects her enough to listen to what she has to say.
But he has always held a strict code of honour which he will not relinquish.

It's a simple fact. They are at war and there will be casualties.
