Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

「Gosh why him? Fine, whatever, he's not going to be that guy, So he starts... hmm, moving, a little awkwardly, trying to follow the rhythm, he hasn't done this in ... hmm, millenniums.」

Like confusing you with your brother again?

「Lup, is it you?」

[ Richie's grin is alarmingly wide. Maybe it's just the glasses, but he definitely comes across as a little mad scientist. ]

Dunno yet, that's why one of us has to eat it.

( Still. It's never easy to talk about death, even more so in the home - or what is close to a home, she supposes - of the deceased. )

Right. The guide mentioned that.

( Being able to revive the dead. What a strange concept. )

... Do you think Hope might not?

( Didn't the guide also mention that Hope resurrected the gods before? )

Robots or something. They were already around and trying to kill everyone when I showed up here. This city used to be underground. Somehow, they, like... teleported the entire city above ground to get us away from the robots? That's all I really know.

[He shrugs his shoulders, trying to pretend he didn't really care. He does, but... in reality, he didn't know much more about what was going on than she did. He's only been here one month himself.

Looking the woman up and down, he ponders for a moment.] I'm guessing you're new here if you're asking me all this. Just so you know, even if you found someone who could be called the one "in charge," they won't let you go home.

[ Richie grins right back--chalk one up to the trashmouth, he got the prettiest lady he's ever seen to laugh--and while the smile doesn't fade, it gets a little smaller. Bony shoulders shrug, too, and his gaze flicks to the ground. ]

There's this guy that sometimes cooks for my friends and I, and he never really asks for anything in return, so I figured maybe I'll try to help. [ And, quickly: ] it's not like there's anything else to do here, right?

Terrible.

「But at least he says it with a smile as he sits next to the other. Did Kain miss that stupid post he made? Possibly.」

But I kind of don't wanna talk about that... I'd rather talk about you. Or... whatever, I don't care. I mean, no, I care, it's just very hard to do so lately, you know?

「There is that old saying about children and drunk people, always telling the truth or something.」

People love building shit here. Or you can ask the Gods, but they're kinda busy right now since one of them totally tried to kill another one. It's a regular Days of Our Lives.

Can I... Can I pet it?

[Lup, a lady in all things, sticks her tongue out at Atem. It's true that Taako and her were born identical twins, that they can be near impossible to tell apart to those who don't know her very well, but she has no reason to play around as her brother today.]

Don't be an ass. You know I'm Lup. Taako never looks this hot.

「Okay, skip the kidnapping, it's not like he can lift her or anything anyway. He laughs at that, running a hand through his hair a little awkwardly.」

Yeah, I missed the first two... No, wait, four... 「Shit, is he been here so long?」 Though, I guess there was none last month. I guess it was about time.

( Serah nods, and then stops herself, a finger against her jaw in thought. There's a bit more to it than that. )

Well, she's the NORA house cat. My friend, Yuj, he found her and brought her home and now we all look after her.

( As you do in semi-post-apocalyptic societies. )

[Tim showed up at the colosseum - street clothes, no trace of the Red Robin uniform, his only weapon a spear with the pointed end broken off, a makeshift replacement for his missing bo staff - to help out with protecting the (likely disoriented) crop of newcomers from the monsters inside, but this one seems to be more than holding her own. No surprise, really, considering who it is. So rather than jumping in, he's just been watching her work. When she turns to him, Tim shakes his head and offers her a smile.]

Um ... yeah, I'm fine. I just didn't expect to see you here. Just arrived?

[ That brings a bit of a grin to his face, and a quick glance around — ] If I can find her, I know someone with the spell to do it. It might take a few days to get everyone, but I'm sure she'd be happy to help.

[ Vax narrows his eyes a bit at he looks at the thing in his hands, not quite believing such a small thing can do things like that. ~~sounds fake but ok.~~ How does it do that? Does it contain a spell or something?

You'd be surprised, friend. Though I've never been on this side of fighting one.

[ It's about all he has time for, a half-grin on his face, before the elemental lumbers over — Vax spins out of its way, watching it fall, before looking at him over the thing. He knows better than to underestimate spellcasters, by now; Scanlan and Keyleth have more than demonstrated why it wouldn't end well for him. So he doesn't doubt it when he's told it's taken care of. Vax nods, swaps his Dagger of Venom for the Flametongue instead; a flick of the wrist, and it bursts into flames. ]

I'm pretty good at being a distraction — just give me a bit of warning before you blast it into oblivion, yeah?

[ And then his attention goes to the elemental. It doesn't like damage, of course; what better way to draw its attention away from the spellcaster, then, than to climb on top of it and stab it in its nondescript face again? Just a few good hits, the dagger leaving scorch marks as it lands, before he jumps and taunts it away. ]

[ He watches her tap and move her finger across its surface, both amazed and perplexed at its face changes. This is... Gods, he wants Percy to see this. It surprises him to find that the words on the screen are in Common, reading quickly as she goes by — ]

Kyna? Is that you?

[ A brief grin, and then he remembers what she'd said about it. ]

Wait, this will let me talk anyone I want?

[ He perks up at that, eyes wide and heart skipping just a little. If it lets him contact anyone — Keyleth comes to mind first, then Scanlan. The lot of his friends, before it settles on one person. ]

Will it let me talk to my sister?

[ There's a bark of a laugh at that — what are the odds he would meet another set of twins? He should have figured, really, given his own history. ]

You know, if she were here I could say the same thing about my sister. I'm sorry for the confusion, I know it gets old after a while. [ And there's a little bit of a smirk. ] Your brother actually helped me a great deal, I'm lucky to have met him when I did.

[ And because he is a good, polite man, Vax holds out a hand to her, smiling as he does. ] This is a bit more peaceful of an introduction, but — Vax.

[Yusuke simply watches him take his leave, giving him a cold stare and not bothering to return the false pleasantries.

...Once he's given Akechi the impression he's let him go, however, Yusuke decides to try following behind him at a safe distance. Time to put those Phantom Thief skills to the test, to make sure Akechi really isn't up to anything immediately shady or dangerous in this world.]

[ He's very pointedly not looking anywhere interesting. He's taken, for Pelor's sake, but when it's right there it's a bit hard. So Vax stands, dusts himself off — so much easier to avoid awkward glances when he's about eye-level with her eyes.

The note about it being useful interests him, even if he's not sure what it is; he holds out his hand to take it back, head cocked to the side just a little. ]

Hard to care about something being useful when you don't know what it is. Thank you for returning it, though.

Well, I wasn't expecting to be.

[ Said flippantly, but after it's out he realizes he probably shouldn't be so flippant about it. Vax takes a deep breath as he looks around, and a frown settles onto his face. ]

If this isn't Exandria, then where are we? Even folks in the Hells and Feywild know the gods; I'm not at all sure how I've gotten somewhere no one knows any of them.

[That right there is the face of a man beginning to realize the depth of his situation. Ephemera can relate. He's just happy his helmet conceals his face entirely.] It's called Hadriel. Got yanked in here through some crazy magic bullshit like the rest of us.

「This kid... But hey, he actually gets the terminology.」

It kind of does. Why haven't you been able to go?

[Oh. Kyna frowns, shaking her head, voice a bit more somber now.]

No. Um... Only people who are here. Sorry.

[Aren shrugs. She's no mage, she isn't an expert on any of this stuff.]

I don't think so? At least every else I've talked to says it's not magic and it's not like any magic I've ever seen.

But yeah, you can also just press buttons and send a written message or make it all private or anonymous. And there are little pictures you can add, too. I thought they were for people who can't read, but some people like using them just because? I don't get it.

[Barkspawn peers up at the phone and wags his tail.] Barkspawn here likes this little game on here called pong. There's two paddles and a ball, and you have to keep sending it back and forth. [Priorities.]

True, it would. Even though I've told her the surface is way better, she won't leave her king now. Short of another coronation, Rica's probably not going to visit the surface again.

[Aren shrugs, as Barkspawn eagerly nuzzles against that hand.]

Yeah, I think that's the plan. She's a lot more closed-off than I remember, but maybe she just needs to get used to me. If nothing else, I'll try to get Barkspawn to loosen her up. She didn't have anything against mabari before.

[ 'Close' is pretty subjective. Especially if you ask Sorrow himself, really... Still. She cared about him and that's what matters. That's why it hurts. ]

I don't know, [ she admits, a bit somberly. ] I want to believe he will, but... I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't possible for whatever reason. [ This place does have a way of kicking people while they're down. ]

[ They're alike in that way, her and Wolfie. Rose has lost all of her packmates. It took a while to start seeing people as potential new ones, but... She's getting there. Slowly but surely, she might have a pack again yet. That'd be nice, she thinks. But she isn't about to let herself hope too much. ]

Me too. I mean, I'm sure he could manage on his own but now he's got a warm place to stay and someone to help provide. [ All a dog really needs to give unconditional love in return. Gosh, does she really love dogs.

To the Chocobo's reaction, Wolfie just blinks and snorts. He takes a few steps back, half-hiding behind Rose's legs. Weirdest chicken ever. ]
