Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

"Hmm, the Millennium Necklace has that ability. I'm not certain how it worked, never used it myself, but Isis, the Priest who was chosen by it usually would only make use of its power in times of need. Like, foreseeing an attack. But, who knows, maybe she used it for other more personal stuff..."

That's a tiny bit of a lie, she, of all priests had the ability to see a lot of things, past, present and future, surely she kept a lot of stuff to herself.

"But the future doesn't only hold just one path, it can change, so, no matter what, you shouldn't only rely on a mere glimpse of it."

No? Guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Boy likes to keep to himself most of the time.

[Lup can't imagine a childhood without her brother's support guiding her. He was her reason for everything, for becoming tough and learning magic, just so she could keep him protected. But their childhood was still nowhere near as difficult to navigate as Laura's. At least they had each other, knew they could keep the rest of the world at bay.]

Haven't talked to Love myself, but probs. Give her a ring. Just specify what kinda porn you want or she may give you somethin' real nasty.

Curufin nods. To him, an arcane or holy item that confers a certain power is a familiar idea.

"True enough. Once I had left my own world, I became aware that there are many possible paths. And, I suspect, not only paths into the future. I have sometimes thought that each one of us may tread many possible paths simultaneously in the present."

Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, I like to be by myself, too.

[sometimes Laura wonders what it would've been like to have a brother or sister. if there would've been as much pressure to act the act of the perfect daughter while concealing such corruption within. but at the same time, could she really wish for a sibling? so far as she knows, they'd be made a victim of BOB, too. she can't wish that on anyone]

How nasty can it be, it's Love. I figured the best I could hope for was a man and woman, missionary style on a bed. With soft lighting and maybe a smooth jazz soundtrack.

I'm a lich. Uh, a spooky magic ghost, I guess puttin' it easy. Had to beg Hope for a brand new body, but if this one dies on me, then my lich form will just rise up out of my corpse an' I'll keep on goin'. It's a long story.

[Not really, but y'know.]

Well dang. I didn't realize it was so bare in the beginning. Smaller crowd, too?

Ah. Am familiar with those. Long stories, that is.

[God knows she's got plenty of them, herself. But she gets the gist of what Lup is saying.]

Think so. Didn't really keep a head count back then, but there were fewer places to live and the city was a bigger mess, so... [That sure was a thing.]

Funny how much shit can change in two years, huh?

That's like... So, elves are stupid long lived. We get seven, eight hundred years depending. The ones that live the longest are the ones who never leave the fuckin' villages. Which never change! You can pop into one three hundred years later and they just look exactly the same! Same buildings, same interior decor, same friggin' faces cause elves live forever. It's like they exist in these fuckin' time bubbles.

But with humans, shit's always movin'. Two years and the whole place can be unrecognizable. It's weird.

[What Laura was made to live through was unforgivable. Maybe a sibling would have eased the burden put onto her shoulders, given her someone she could trust explicitly, but it's so hard to share that kind of pain with someone you love. It's easier to take it all on yourself.

Lup spent her whole childhood keeping her brother safe, making sure he was taken care of and loved and never hurt. She gets it, just a little.]

Boring! At least throw in a third and make it a little more excitin', hun. Be good to yourself.

[and she did a great job of taking all of the pain on herself. granted, it made her act in all kinds of unhealthy ways, but she shouldered the burden.

But should the third be another man or another woman? Or should I go ahead and ask for four, so there's two of each?

[Ellie doesn't enjoy being treated like something delicate, but she finds herself too dizzy to put up any real resistance. Jo wins today!]

「Well, she mentioned it anyway. She can see him downing his drink, yep, the whole thing, he, then, stands from the stool and in front of her.」

Good, because I don't dance either.

「He pulls a little bow at her, a hand behind his back and the other offering, so classy.」

「New chance at life...
Law had told him something similar, and it tears him up. It shouldn't be so hard to get behind that mentality, it's hard not to feel bad from not embracing this chance, it is, as they said, hard to get used to be alive again.」

Is that what you're doing?

"Maybe so." What a deep talk for a pair of drunken guys.

"Can you imagine if they had killed Delight? I sometimes wonder what will happen from that decision alone, or what will not. All we can hope is that the path we took is the less terrible of them all. The choices we make have more impact that we can imagine."

He makes a small pause to drink a litle more of his drink. He's gonna need a new one soon.

"But you know that better than most, don't you, Curufin?"

And just a very brief pause later:

"What does your name mean anyway?"

[Sometimes, Kain wishes he hadn't woken up here. Sometimes. He questions a lot about what he's doing, and why. But he's had to tell himself that this second chance is worth it, and that he's earned it for a reason. Perhaps he's not redeemed yet, but maybe he'll be yet deserving.]

I'm trying. I'll admit it's no easy task. I'm not so sure I'm even doing the right thing, most of the time. I often fear I'll fail.

[Rey's brows lift at that number. Hundreds of years? She knew her father -- or, rather, the man who created her and whose blood she shares -- had lived longer than any human should as a result of his immortal cells. Cells that he had so "kindly" donated to Rey's vessels so that she can be the bundle of sunshine she is now. But even he had changed, and Rey had changed, even if it could be considered a terrible change. The concept Lup describes is...

[Well, it's weird. Like she says.]

So... Shit really just stays stagnant for that long? No attempt to build anything new?

[Seriously, what the hell sort of life is that? Not that Rey could say she's accomplished much good with her own longevity, she's at least done what she could here.]

Four is fine, but three is that sweet spot, babe. Get two hotties taking good care of you or, fuck, even better, letting two hotties use you to take care of themselves. Either or. Both is good. Men, women, and anyone in between. It's all bomb as fuck.

[she laughs]

[She wiggles off the barstool to follow, in all her 4 foot tall glory.]

And Curufin takes another sip, too, imbibing a little more of that truth. He meets Atem's eyes, with candor. "You're right. I know better most people do, how great and terrible can be the consequences of the choices we make. But you know that, too, Pharaoh Atem, do you not?"

Strange change of subject, but he'll go with it. "My name means Skilled Finwë. It's my father-name. That is, my father gave it to me, in accordance with our naming traditions. Finwë was my grandfather, King of the Noldor, the leader of our clan. His sons and some of his grandsons were given his name, with an prefix that indicated a quality that that particular child had. I'm like my father, a highly skilled craftsman, so the prefix is Curu, skill or cleverness. So it's actually Curufinwë."

"And you, Atem? What does your name mean?"

「It's not easy, no, it's not something he's been able to wrap his head around completely, this second chance thing. It's so conflicting, maybe one day he'll come to accept there is no other way around it anyway.」

Kain... no one has the answers, everyone will make mistakes, that's what life is all about, don't live in fear, that's no way to live. Just learnt, that's all you can do. And if you were to fail, just remember you're not alone, someone will help you stand again.

Yep. [Lup drags that word out, popping the p.] Elven culture is highkey bullshit.

[It's not something that Lup takes the time to think about much, not since they left. It's so strange to realize that if their world hadn't been destroyed that their family, likely even their parents too, would still be in the same place, doing the same thing, day to day to day into forever.]

But that's why my bro bro and I got the fuck outta dodge. Not that humans have their shit together either, but anything's better than living the same life for nearly a millennium. We got bored with it and ran after twelve years. That was all we could handle.

Y'know, I'm shit at picking an age out with humans, but you seem kinda on the young scale. Still, good for you for chasin' your bliss. Life's too short and all that.

Atem laughs, no one had called him that way in a long time, it is strange, comforting and strange at the same time. "I do."

He listens attentively, as much as his drunken self allows him to. "Your father named you too... That's a very good name. Fitting, if you ask me."

"Ah well, mine... heh. It's the name of our creator god. A bit of a pompous name if you ask me, but it's mine." For someone who had forgot it for so long, it means much more than Curufin might imagine. "As someone I know said, my father expected a lot from me, I guess. I hope I haven't disappointed him much."

I couldn't ask such a favor of anyone...

[But on the other hand... maybe he's right, maybe he's on to something, after all. He certainly doesn't have any answers, or feel any closer to them, for that matter.]

...but I guess that would be the other person's choice to make, if they really thought me deserving of such help. [He's not so sure that he'd deserve it, that's for sure. People make mistakes, but do they make them as terribly as he had?] I once... I thought I would find those answers, so I went on a journey to find them. I'm still searching.

Curufin had never known Atem's other name, the one that belonged to the modern era.

"Thank you. I rather like my name. I just hope Cel likes his name as much. I sometimes think I overstepped when I gave it to him. But it's accurate, he's an incredible smith. Better than I am, and better even than my father was."

"Atem is the name of your creator god? A mythic kind of name, but it makes sense. You're a creative kind of person, at least that's my impression. Why not back that up with a name that has a powerful creative resonance?"

Oh yes, fathers.

"Was your father a perfectionist?"
