It starts off small: the wind picks up, particles of sand and dirt and dust begin to fill the air. You might not even notice at first, not until you have to wipe the dust off your windows to see outside. After all, it's been a long time since Hadriel has experienced weather, and it's never experienced a weather event not caused by the gods before.
But the gods aren't in charge of the weather now, and even if they could prevent this dust storm, they have way too many other things to do. So it's up to you to deal with it, and as the wind rises and the dust storm moves into the city, there'll be plenty to deal with.
Once the storm is at its peak, it'll be almost impossible to see outside - and it won't be safe to go wandering, either. Entirely besides falling and hurting yourself, if you aren't wrapped up well enough the particles in the air will abrade your skin. Love that sandpaper feel! Oh, and breathing? Yeah, better make sure your nose and mouth are covered, or else they'll be full of sand, too. Hope you've got some goggles stashed away to protect your eyes. Luckily, it won't last too long - 'cause you'll have plenty of cleaning to do once the storm is over.► This log covers January 14th-17th.

Kain Highwind | OTA
[When the storm really starts to kick up, Kain knows he has to head inside. One failed jump is enough to tell him that: he doesn't get very high when he tries, ending up slammed right back to the ground. But worse than that are the hallucinations still plaguing him since his revival. They're there in his perspective, things in the storm, mostly enemies from Chaos' warriors or the elemental fiends from home.]
[So Kain runs from all the crazy things he's seeing, opening the door of the nearest building he finds and scrambling inside. The sand is covering him head to toe, and he spits some out, shaking the rest off. Or... trying to shake it off, there's a lot on him.]
Don't go outside.
Rescue?
[On the other hand... maybe he should go outside. The storm isn't letting up, but that's all the more reason to be concerned. His head aches terribly again, but that seems to be the norm these days. He's just going to have to bear with it, it seems.]
As a guardsman, I can't just sit around inside while others may be in danger... I'm going back out there.

Another one bites the dust, huh?

Or something like that. [He frowns, glancing back outside.] Is this supposed to happen, or are the gods playing some game with us?

winding up with nothing more than a shrug. )
Who knows? Even where I'm from, the weather reports are only right half of the time.
( akira pinches at his chin, thinking further about this poor guy... ) I'm not sure your gear is ideally suited for the sudden change.

[Oddly, he's kind of grateful to be experiencing actual weather, a welcome change from the monotony of cave walls. He sighs, shaking his head.]
Suited or not, it's mine and it holds strong importance for me. I'll not trade it for anything else.

but the defensiveness of kain's words as him holding up his hands. sorry dude, he meant no offense against your fashion choices. only that— ) It must keep the sand in all the wrong places, though.
no subject
Apparently so. [He makes a face, watching the sand stream out.] I think I'll be fine as long as I make it a point not to get stuck in too many sandstorms. Let's hope this won't be too regular of an occurrence, anyway...
no subject
Travel through deserts often? ( it's a sarcastic remark, but his face seems so plain when he says it, it might have you guessing... )
no subject
Must you? [Sigh.] I can't say it's my favorite environment, but I'll take this over that cave. Even with the sandstorms.
Shelter
Yeah, that's more or less what I thought would happen. Stay put and stomp some of that off. If you trail sand everywhere in here, the owners are going to be pissed.

This may take a while... It's gotten pretty terrible out there. [He spits a bit more out, making a face.] So did you get lucky and find your way in here before it started?
no subject
Yeah, I was working here and almost off my shift. Now I'm stuck here until it's all over. At least we're trapped where there's drinks.
no subject
Well, even if I don't enjoy the thought of being trapped... there are surely worse places to be trapped. I think a drink or several may be needed about now...
no subject
Good, join me. I'm not working as a bouncer right now, so we can do whatever as long as we pay for our drinks and don't wreck shit.

[Kain address Barkspawn with that, before he returns his attention to Aren and nods.]
It sounds like they give you a pretty good deal... I like that sound of that. [He grips his head for a moment, then makes his way toward the bar, needing to take a seat.] It was getting pretty intense out there...
