what if i make the change? [CLOSED]
Who: Rey and Alphys.
What: Someone has the worst coping solution ever. (By "someone" I mean Rey. It's Rey.)
Where: Science Lab.
When: Forward-dated to the 28th.
Warnings: N/A for now.
It isn't news that too much of anything can lead to negative consequences. Even something like the intense feeling plaguing her from two fully charged Hope-orbs might have had an ill-effect on Rey's state of mind.
Not that she cares. She's shared her intentions with Nick already, and she's made the plans with Alphys several weeks ago. What wa she so afraid of? All it'll take is a flip of a switch, and the pain will be gone. Free of everything that had been haunting her over the past several months.
That's what she wants, right? That's what everyone wants. Right?
How this will end, she just doesn't know. Her technical prowess is limited, but she knows how to navigate her mind through something like Alphys' computer, so long as she has the means of hooking up to it properly.
Which she comes prepared with when she finally enters the science lab, where Rey had been frequenting since she had requested the use of the equipment here. Any sense of reluctance is gone, however, when she approaches the door with a bag strapped over her shoulder, peering inside the lab as she seeks out the scientist.
"Alphys?" Rey calls through the opening after knocking on the front door. "You in?"
It's either sink or swim now.

It's either sink or swim now.

Regardless, Alphys is around when Rey arrives, ready and waiting to show her to where she needs, and she waves from her position midway back behind a lab table.
"Hey! Yeah, o-over here. Just doing some organizing." She shuffles out around the counter, hands lightly clasped together, but not looking afraid. "I, uh, don't know how much actual involvement you need from me, but I'm happy to help anyway!"

"No worries. If nothing else, it might be good to have someone watching my back in case any complications happen."
Which, preferably, she'd rather not have happen, but brains are tricky and fragile things. Even one like her own, synthetic that it is to house so many memories.
Rey steps inside the lab, sliding the back over her shoulder so she can reach one of the zippers and pull out a cord with a needle at the end. "Actually, it'll be easier if you do the first part. Better safe than sorry."
Nothing about this is safe, Rey.

"Is this alright? D-Do you need to lay down or something? And where should this, uh... go?" Maybe it's like an IV? Where do humans take those? "Does it go in like, your head, or...?"

She leans forward, ducking her head as she brushes her hair from the back of her neck. She had given it a good trim a few hours ago just for this; hair can be so bothersome.
"It goes back here, in the spinal column." Her finger taps over the nape. If Alphys touches it to make sure, she might notice that the bone there doesn't feel right. Like there's a small, circular port underneath the skin. "Just stick the needle in and hook the other end to the computer, and I should be able to handle the rest."
no subject
"So, uh, just l-let me know when you're done, or if there's anything else you need me to get, cuz uh, I'll just hang around! I mean, I wouldn't want to leave you here anyway, that'd be dumb. And we can work on getting these files backed up or, uh, whatever you want with 'em." She shuffles onto the table, positioning herself at Rey's neck.
"Okay, uh, j-just sit tight!" Alphys feels for the port just a moment, makes sure she knows exactly where to go, and slides the needle in clean.

She doesn't even flinch when the needle pierces the back of her neck, connecting to the near-hidden port under her skin. It stings a little more from what she's used to, but she's no stranger to pain, and the last thing she wants is to startle Alphys into knowing that.
Once it's fully connected, Rey lifts her head. She closes her eyes as she feels her memory core starting to link with the hardcare in front of her.
"All right, I think it's working." Eyes still closed, she tilts her head towards Alphys behind her. "It'll take a while to synch up, but I should be able to manage hands free from here."
Rey has a feeling that she's done this before, though she's not entirely sure where or how. That'll just have to be good enough for her.

She skitters off the table, wiping her hands down her coat as she now looks up at Rey. "Well, uhm, let me know if you need m-me to do anything! I'm not leaving or whatever, so I'll be... right here!"
Something still makes her nervous, but the thought of anyone hooked up to a machine doing something she doesn't understand would do that. She's nervous about everything- this is just more of the same.
