Maybe you explored a bit last month, retrieved an orb or just got lost. Or maybe you were too busy stalking that person you love - no judgment. Well, maybe a little judgment. Whatever went down, it's a new month, and a new chance to explore this strange world you've ended up on. So climb on a motorcycle, grab a friend (and a lot of supplies), and get going! If you leave now, maybe you'll avoid the next awful thing that happens in the city.
Not that there aren't a few awful things that can happen out there, too. You could run out of food. You might lose that compass of yours and never find your way home. You could ride straight into a ditch and blow out all your tires. Or hey, maybe you'll get in a screaming fight with your traveling companions and get left behind. Whoops!
But everything could go great, too. You won't know until you try, and Love still really needs those orbs full of Hope energy. (Hope juice?) You've got a whole month this time, but the day will pass pretty fast under that hot sun. Good luck.► This log covers March 1st-March 31st.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you run out of food and die unpleasantly in the desert, please let us know here.
► If you successfully return with an orb, please let us know here.
Kain | Open | Early March
[Eventually, he starts to notice a gradual change in terrain. It starts off with a few random hills here and there, a surprising sight breaking up the somewhat monotonous landscape. This is no bother to Kain, who's more interested than concerned...]
[...until the terrain really starts to get tough. They've reached the badlands, and before long, it come to a point where continuing is getting to be almost impossible.]
[Pausing for a moment, Kain eyes the landscape thoughtfully. It might be possible to detour, but he's not so sure he likes the idea of losing time. What could go wrong?]
I say we go through.

He listens to his companion's idea and he has to give a glance to the edges, how long would it take them to go around?」
We'd have to leave the bikes here.
「He doesn't love the idea of carrying the stuff he's got loaded on it, but dragging the vehicle along seems even less viable.
Hmm, surely Kain would be able to cross easily if he were alone, with those magnificent jumps of his... Damn, he can't help to think that accompanying him will slow him down.」

It may be worth it, if there’s much of interest on the other side of all of this. I could take a look for us, first. I may be able to see from the air if there’s anything worthwhile out there.
[And maybe spot some enemies, too, if there’s any threats lurking out there. It’s always good to be forewarned, although the monsters seem less plentiful the further out they go, at least.]

He dismounts the bike and take out his backpack from the compartment under the seat, he also he takes the small cage with the lava salamander that was on the back of his seat with him.」
I'm ready.
「This is the first time he has to cross a rocky deserted place, and this time he's way more prepared.」
We'll have to cross back to get the bikes but might be faster this way.

[Kain springs into the air, flying high above and out of sight. While up there, he glances downward, getting a literal birds-eye view of what's down there. He descends shortly afterward, making the whole thing look as easy as walking. He straights up after landing, looking over at Atem.]
Nothing hostile in sight... just some rough-looking territory to travel. It should be possible, though. [He takes his pack of supplies from the bike, ensuring it's as secured as it'll be while they head out. He glances curiously at the cage that Atem holds.] Right, let's head out. So... who is the lizard in there, anyway?
no subject
It should be alright then. 「A bit harder than usual, eh, he's not gonna complain. So there they go!」
She's a salamander.
「Kain, please, learn your animals.」
Named her Rey. She came through the Door with many others a couple of months ago. I just... decided to keep her. It's quite useful honestly, probably the main reason why I haven't frozen during the nights.
「It's easy to see why, it's like she's made of lava.」
no subject
[He looks curiously at the salamander, more closely this time.]
Fascinating... a salamander with some kind of fire capabilities? That must come in handy indeed. What a worthwhile companion.
[One who's quiet and dependable, that seems like a good deal to Kain.]
no subject
Accept it, he's totally jelly because it's like a little dragon. Except, not.」You could say so.
「He's not sure it's exactly a worthwhile companion, she doesn't talk back much. Or at all. But at least taking care of a living thing has been nice.」
Have you ever had one? A companion like like this?
no subject
Beautiful…
[Then he straightens up, back to his usual demeanor.]
Well, I’ve… Yes. In a way. I cared for my father’s dragon, who I’d known all my life until that point. It’s a little different, of course…
no subject
At the mention of the dragon, Atem's own lips curve upwards slightly, hidden, perhaps by the rather noticeable height difference between them. He just can't stop thinking about his friends, what he would give to see Kaiba's face when Kain talks about dragons, he'd be his biggest fan.」
Different because it's an actual dragon, or something else? And, what happened to it?
no subject
Different because he was a dragon... not that it makes your salamander any less wonderful of a companion. As for my father's dragon... I cared for him and did all I could. After my father's death... it was difficult. Dragons bond very closely with their human riders, and... I was the only one he responded to. That was how I earned my role as commander of the dragoons.
[The Highwind name alone wasn't enough to secure him that spot.]
no subject
How difficult was it?
no subject
[Emotions were especially difficult... That thing he really doesn't like to talk about. He'd held it together as much as he could, but... well... he could only do so much.]
But in others, it wasn't so hard at all. That dragon knew me well, and we needed one another. That made it much easier to convince the others to follow my lead.
