Good morning! It's another fine sunny day in Hadriel, and what's more, there's a good chance that you've woken up with something new and interesting in your possession - something you've never seen before. Something, in fact, that doesn't even belong to you. That's right, the Door is acting up again and it seems to be pulling things from everyone's world and dropping them into the laps (and homes) of strangers.
When you touch whatever it is you've found, you'll get a brief glimpse through the eyes of the person it belongs to, a glimpse of whatever they're doing at that exact moment. Maybe you'll see them eating breakfast, or walking through the streets of Hadriel, or checking out their own sweet ass in the mirror. That last one might be the best, because then you'll immediately know who this strange striped hoodie or weird book or priceless artifact belongs to. Otherwise, you're just gonna have to try to figure out from context, so - good luck with that!
And of course, you might also catch on to the fact that if things are arriving for lots of other people, something also might have arrived for you. Maybe you should search the city until you find it? Or you can hang out at home and hope whoever has it finds you. Your choice! Well, as long as it isn't something super cool that they'll want to keep. That would be awkward.► This log covers March 14th-19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If someone gets really mad about you ending up with their favorite hoodie, please let us know here.

[Since apparently that death wasn't enough death for him, wow. Maybe she should have mutilated the corpse. Dismembered him and scattered his pieces outside the city. Maybe that would have lasted longer.]
I would love to.

[ Don't get his hopes up, Caedra... ]
It's likely that they won't stay dead, either.

[The idea that someone could have died at home and been brought here alive is also strange to her, but not new. Laura had told her the same was true for her. And a soul, alive and well in the celestial realm, or rotting in the ash fields somewhere, could be reincarnated here with a body, she supposed.
Really, she and her kind are just doing the multiverse a service, destroying souls that might otherwise get pulled into here. Show some appreciation, already.]
If the gods are the ones keeping people alive, then they can't very well revive themselves - but you're right, I probably would have to kill them all at the same time. That takes some doing.
no subject
[ And can you blame him? ]
Maybe a power even higher than theirs is what keeps them alive.
[ ...since he hadn't exactly revived himself all those times in the House. ]

[Which is about as generous a suggestion as he will get from her. If he was stuck thinking he was dead for so long, maybe he'd spent that time a ghost, bound to some awful world he couldn't escape. Or maybe he was one of those unfortunate creatures who had denied any sort of higher power his worship in life, and found himself stuck without any hope at all in ever achieving some form of peace.
Of course, if he declines to answer, she won't be surprised. It takes some real doing to end up like that in death and he may well be ashamed of it.]
Well, gods that are as low as these are hardly the ultimate authorities. These are just local gods. They barely even have control over the emotions they're supposed to represent. So, sure. Maybe an older god is supporting them. Can't find out if you don't try killing them first, though.
[A task far too big for her to achieve alone, much as she wishes she could. But she's alone here - or, not that she's entirely alone, but nobody here that she's seen is likely to both want to help and also have the needed capabilities to do so.]
no subject
[ Not really "the" god, in a way, but it's not like she'd care about the details.
At this point, the whole thing is more of a cosmic joke than anything else, anyway. ]
They at least have the power to bring others back to life. That has to count for something, right?
no subject
You, a god.
[That skepticism bubbles up into anger inside her, and it shows on her face, but she holds her tongue about it for now. Godhood is an incredibly difficult thing to achieve and excuse you but some people dedicate thousands of years in pursuit of it, so to have some child-
Well. She doesn't know the full story. Hopefully he'll elaborate.
She rolls her eyes at that last comment though.]
If a god can't bring someone back to life then they're awfully limited, aren't they? That has to be some sort of very low bar to hit if you want to be a god. I've even heard of mortals learning how to do it, rarely.
no subject
[ He would love to stop being a god, actually.
Speaking of low bars... ]
Not that I'd likely meet many of your standards for it.
[ Judging by the look on her face. ]

[Obviously he may have been different at home. She's certainly been stripped of some of her own abilities here, like the ability to just up and leave if she wants. Who needs this plane anyway. But she has zero reason to believe him right now, with a wild claim like that.]
no subject
[ That's awfully judgmental from someone who isn't a god.
Completely true but still... ]
no subject
[I mean, if he is, then that's worth knowing. Not that she gained anything from it but if there are others out there who are that easy to kill then you bet she wants to find them. Just, after she's gone from this place, when she might actually get to destroy them utterly and gain their powers.]
no subject
[ Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn't.
It's a terrible place. ]
no subject
Right. That depends on what you did. You created it, for sure? It wasn't some already-existing place you claimed for yourself because nobody else had found it yet? How do you know you made it?
[That said, the gods did absolutely create all those infinite worlds at one point, whether by accident or not. They're fairly sure of that.]
no subject
[ Does she really want to hear him talk that much? ]
And you did seem to be in a hurry.
no subject
And, sure, she would like to get her item back, whatever it might be, but that's all just small distractions. The sort of thing that keeps her busy in this place on slow days, when learning about the potential existence of weak gods that might some day be hunted down is something vastly more useful in the long run.
She can't let herself get as distracted as the lesser tanar'ri do. She's not like them. She has goals.]
Talk.

There's a theory, that when a person dies, their soul becomes the source material for a new world, based on everything that made them...them. Characters I'd created, things that were part of my life-- even things that no one else knew about-- they were all part of that place.
[ And it was miserable. ]
I don't know what else it could've been.
[ Well, that's the condensed version, but she might have questions. He has answers. Maybe. ]
no subject
Well, that's just blatantly wrong. I swear, where do you humans get this stuff? It's creative! But it's absolutely wrong.
Your soul probably went to some strange celestial realm. I don't know what they do up there, maybe they invent dream dimensions for the souls to live in and watch them like plays. Who knows what the celestials do for entertainment. I guess I can see why you would think you'd be a god, in a place like that.
[But he doesn't sound happy about it entirely, even if she's having a hard time judging exactly what did happen to him. Is that sadness? Or just sort of a bland neutrality? Or maybe...]
What were these dreams, or, mm, these characters and events like?
no subject
If that were true, that'd probably be even worse, wouldn't it?
[ Sure, it might be interesting, but...still depressing. ]
It was like...hundreds of stories. All formulaic, repetitive, and meaningless. Nothing that happened in them mattered, and no one was ever happy.
no subject
Sounds boring and unpleasant. Did you do anything bad in life? Piss off some gods, deny their existence, make friends with a devil and do its evil bidding..?
[She raises an eyebrow questioningly.]
no subject
I think it's more that I never did anything good in life, actually...
[ It comes out sounding 75% like a joke and 25% like a confession. ]
no subject
So, either you're lucky you ended up here before someone came and raided whichever part you were in, or you're unlucky you ended up here, depending on your outlook.
[Boring. But it makes a lot of sense. This kid doesn't have anything godlike about him. Honestly, the ego it would take to then assume he had, in his pathetic grub stage, become a god says a lot about him also. Still, she's glad there are those who go through the motions and end up like him after all is said and done. They're easier to raid and drag back writhing to the Abyss than the souls the gods cared for would be.]
no subject
[ It's certainly true that he's not godlike, though. She has that right. ]
no subject
Well, enjoy your respite from being hunted. Maybe you'll get sent back there after all this, if you're unlucky.
no subject
I appreciate the concern.
[ Not really. ]
