Event log: How Delightful

Who: Anyone and everyone!
What: Delight's resurrection.
Where: Throughout the city, starting in the bar.
When: March 23rd-April 3rd
Warnings: Partying too hard, poor life choices, underage drinking, the worst hangovers of all time.

On the morning of March 23rd, bright and early, Delight is resurrected. Her temple is restored, and her bar appears in the city. What does that mean? Well, obviously it's time to celebrate. We hope everyone brought their party shoes! From March 23rd to March 27th, the party will be mostly contained in and around Delight's bar, with an invitation from the goddess herself. But it won't be long before she decides that's just not good enough - gotta bring the party to the people! From March 28th to April 3rd, the natural light is dimmed and replaced with flashing colored lights, fireworks, and even a few disco balls. Loud music blares through the city, making it hard to sleep, and a wide variety of trouble is available to be gotten into.

Wanna drink away the pain of being trapped in a hellcave? There's unlimited amounts of alcohol of all kinds, and Delight will be happy to supply anything that might be missing. More interested in karaoke-ing your heart out? Hit up one of the jukeboxes. Enjoy gleeful displays of your own mortality? Here's a skateboard and a ramp, have fun. There's just about anything you could desire, as long as what you desire is to party hard and make bad decisions. And hey, if you find yourself getting tired, grab one (or five) of Delight's special energy shots. They'll eliminate your need for sleep, food, water, cure an oncoming hangover and immediately relax any sore muscles you've got for 24 hours per shot! There's no down side! (Except for all the effects coming back to hit you at once when the shot wears off, but whatever.)

After about a week and a half of tequila shots, keg stands, roman candle battles, tagging the city with free spraypaint, inappropriate party games, and balloon hats made to look like rocket ships (wait... that's not a rocket ship), Delight realizes everyone's partied out and starts to wind things down. On April 3rd, she'll clean up the city, removing everything except for a few remaining fireworks and disco balls, stored in her temple. Her bar will still be around, if you can stand to even look at liquor after all the poor choices you made. Otherwise, lay in bed and try to recover from your hangover while the city goes back to normal.

Shit. Okay, yeah.

[He takes a deep breath, exhaling through the pain, trying to focus on Adam's fingers on his head. It's a good thing to think about, it feels soft and gentle and nice, which is a welcome contrast to the pain in his arm.

Ronan pulls away so that they can walk, and starts to make the trek toward the clinic next to Adam, his face paler than usual, clammy with sweat.]

Uh- shit, um.

[He's got to think at the question, which is a good thing, it takes his mind off of this.]

My hand, once. Punched a wall, I think. [Ronan has punched so many walls, it's hard to recall which one actually did it, but that's beside the point.] Ankle. Jumping off hay bales with Declan when I was a kid. Uh... I fractured my collarbone climbing a tree.

[With his good arm, he reaches up and rubs at his eyes.]

Hand again, I think. Different wall- or maybe that was a fight. [He shrugs with one shoulder.] That's why I told you man, be careful how you punch shit. Line it up right or you're fucked.

I'm surprised you're in one piece at all. You're lucky you haven't lost a finger yet - or a limb.

[He keeps his voice light, stays close, ready to reach out if Ronan needs him. If he can do anything. Adam wishes he could talk Cabeswater into healing, but he's never seen the forest do that. Maybe - maybe he could take away some of Ronan's pain, though. Keep it distant.]

I think I'm just gonna try to avoid punching anything. With my luck, I'd turn out like Gansey.

[Adam thinks it over, bites his lip. He doesn't even know if something like this could work, much less whether he'll be able to pull it off, but - Ronan is pale and shaky and he's not sure they'll make it to the clinic at this rate. Adam can't carry him.]

Hey. Can I try something?

[Ronan nods because it's true, Adam isn't a fighter. He remembers months ago, when he'd taught Adam to throw a punch and he'd picked the motion of it up pretty quickly, but actually hitting a target proved too unpleasant for the both of them.

Adam distracts him from that particular memory though, and Ronan looks up at him a little blearily, not quite sure what he intends on doing and his brain churns with confusion. Does Adam think he can kiss him and make it better, like they did with the scrying? If so, Ronan would like to point out that it likely wouldn't work here.

Still, he finds himself smiling- it's a forced expression, and doesn't really work when he's practically trembling and clammy with sweat, but he tries anyway.]

I've been waiting for you to ask, Parrish.

[He shakes his head, unable to hide a small smile. Ronan is so clearly in pain, and yet he still somehow manages to find the energy to make veiled implications. Adam isn't sure whether to be annoyed or charmed, but as often happens with Ronan these days, he ends up on the 'charmed' side despite himself.]

Just hold still.

[He doesn't want Ronan to move again, so he doesn't ask Ronan to give him his arm. Instead he just steps closer and reaches out, resting only the tips of his fingers on Ronan's arm, barely a touch. Hopefully not enough to hurt.

Adam breathes out, long and quiet, trying to center himself. It's like scrying, but not quite. He doesn't want to lose himself, he just wants to reach out, reach to Cabeswater and hear it listening. Rustling in his ears and the soft whisper of something almost like words, and it's there, it's right there.

Please, he thinks, and he tries to form his intentions into those same faint almost-words, something Cabeswater will understand. It loves Ronan, won't it want to take his pain away? Just a little, just enough to get them to the clinic. That's all he can ask for.]

[Ronan doesn't flinch back when Adam reaches out to touch his injured arm, but he does go a little tense, his eyes flickering downward to watch as Adam's fingers make the lightest contact against him.

He looks back up at his face, quiet for once as Adam focuses. Ronan can see it, even if he can't imagine it happening or even hope to know what it feels like. He can see Adam reaching out to Cabeswater- there's a certain faraway look to his eyes when he folds back into himself, and Ronan doesn't know what Adam is doing exactly- he doubts that Cabeswater could just heal his broken arm- but he doesn't say anything to distract him.

It happens slowly, so he doesn't realize it all at once, it's easy to attribute it to the ease of tension in his arm, the fact that they're not walking and jarring the dislodged bones with each step, but after a few more moments, it becomes clear that the ease of pain is too significant to be explained away by something like that.

Ronan's chest loosens, his shoulders ease just a little, and he closes his eyes, taking a breath that doesn't feel too tight for the first time since he fell.]

...you did that?

[His voice is softer, no longer quite as shaky. Awestruck, if nothing else.]

[He can't tell if it works, of course. He can feel power, but he can always feel that when he touches Cabeswater. It could be nothing, it could be only half-real, but when Ronan looks at him like that he knows it's worked. He feels - maybe not powerful, exactly, but amazed by his own abilities. It's not him, really, it's Cabeswater, but he's the one channeling the power, he's the one using it.

And his own shoulders ease, too, because watching Ronan in pain is not easy. It's not something Adam wants to do, and of course, of course he'll do what he can do ease it. He lets his hand fall, lets himself look pleased for a moment, maybe even a little bit proud.]

Walking morphine dispenser, I guess.

[He hopes it lasts at least until they get there. If it could last until Ronan's arm is set - well, that would be even better. Maybe he can do it again, if he tries, but he doesn't know. Cabeswater listens, but he belongs to it, it doesn't belong to him. He never quite knows where the limits are. Maybe there aren't any.]

I didn't know I could do that.

I think morphine has more of a high.

[Honest, and Ronan doesn't do anything stupid like test his newfound mitigated pain reception, but he starts to walk again, continuing on toward the clinic. He doesn't know how long this magic will last, but he's not willing to take any chances on waiting it out.

It still hurts a little, but the pain is a dull, throbbing ache more than anything else, something that's definitely more manageable than the sharp stabbing burn that it was a few minutes ago. Ronan is pointedly not trying to get caught up in the fact that Adam used Cabeswater to help him, that even here, sequestered from Henrietta, Adam called on Cabeswater to take his pain away. It's nothing short of magical, nothing short of a miracle, and he'll have plenty of time to think on it later when he's a little more put together.]

That's pretty fucking incredible, is what that is.

[Adam deserves the compliment, and Ronan spares him a sideways glance before nodding, approving of whatever that was- whatever this is.]

-thanks.

[He smiles at Ronan, maybe a little embarrassed or surprised or both by the phrase. There's more than a touch of wonder in that expression - Adam doesn't know how this all works, and finding that he can use it for something like that is new and amazing.

He pushes aside that wonder, though. Ronan still needs a doctor. Adam didn't fix him, he only made it easier for him to get to someone who can. He can't let himself be distracted by his own strange abilities, as amazing as they might seem right now.]

Let's get to the clinic. Can you move a little faster now?

[It doesn't matter either way - Adam is just happy that some of the tension is gone from Ronan's shoulders, some of the pain has faded from his face. This injury is his own stupid fault, but that doesn't mean Adam wants to see him in pain. Waiting weeks for his arm to heal is probably going to be enough of a punishment - that and the hard time they're all gonna give him once he's been patched up.

Adam stays close as they start to move, even so. He doesn't know if he can repeat the trick, but if the pain returns he'll try. He still feels like there's power buzzing along his veins, leaves falling through his vision. Cabeswater, so close, and always closer when Ronan's near.]

Think so.

[Ronan lets out a breath and starts to move back down the road, trying to be a little faster about it than he was before. It's not too difficult to make better time, now that every step doesn't set his arm on fire from jarring it a bit too much one way or another.

He's dealt with broken bones before. This isn't that different, it's just here, where there's not really much by means of painkillers and not really much by way of actual doctors or surgeons or anyone who can really know what they're talking about with this.

It'll be okay though. It has to be. Adam is close to him, as if he's expecting Ronan to fall or lean against him, and as much as he's kind of tempted, he's aware that trying to get support would probably only rattle his arm more than it already is.

They're not far off from the clinic anyway. He can make it.]

[personal profile] unknowable 2016-04-22 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't urge Ronan on. He doesn't know when the pain will come back, and even if it doesn't, Adam wants to be careful. Instead, he stays close to Ronan, ready to do what he can to help if the magic stops working. He's ready to take Ronan's weight, too, if he needs to.

They'll get to the clinic soon. That's what he tells himself, and at least he's here to help Ronan. He doesn't know how many other people Ronan would allow to help him, and he doesn't mean it as an ego boost - it's just that Adam knows how far Ronan's trust stretches, and it's not far.

The clinic isn't far either, though, and Adam is able to help him there. He's confident that Ronan will get some help, and that he'll be able to offer assistance, and in the end that's all that matters. All he cares about is not seeing Ronan in pain any longer, and he has that. It's a relief. They made it.]
