Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Har gau. [Somehow, Rey manages to say this right even with the shrimp dumplings crammed into her mouth. She's not even using the chopsticks to make this easier -- just grabbing whatever with her hands and devouring whatever is in sight.

Wan shum?

[Despite her words being muffled through the food, she picks up the steamer basket and offers one of the remaining har gau to Law, which maybe clears up what she's saying a little.]

"It's alright." He wasn't sure he believed that smile out of the blue, but calling him on it in public was a bad idea. He took Seel's offered hand and gave it a squeeze, watching him eat for another few bites before he started putting his own plate together. Maybe they'd done this too soon. Seel was probably not ready for this.

[He's right to be cautious. Caedra doesn't offer things for free, she always wants something in return - now, or later. At least this time it's something as simple as his company. He's nice to look at, now that she's not out of her mind with sudden surprise illness, and there's also nothing wrong with keeping on the good side of a healer.

The coffee is good - easily the best she's ever had. A lighter roast than some prefer, it seems to have a soft fruitiness to it without being actually sweet. Probably the sort of thing true connoisseurs would never dare to put cream in, but Caedra does what she wants or nothing at all.]

Huh. I can't say I'm familiar with anything like that. I look around here and for a lot of these foods I'm able to pick out some sort of equivalent back home. The people, too. But you're unique. What's it like, where you're from?

I suppose so, but I've never really liked that answer.

I don't think we'll be staying for much longer, regardless. I should probably take him somewhere he feels safe. Or safer.

[the term makes no more sense than falafel but Law knows dumplings on sight. All right, sure, he'll pluck one out.]

It was probably a good call not to believe that smile, considering it was a blatant lie, but were lies better than truth sometimes? Seel gave Swift a sly smile, and snaked a foot over to his to play footsie under the table.

No, he wasn't feeling better, but he was getting to remember who he was and going through motions. Was that better or worse? Was it just another lie?

"I can make it up to you." yes there was a lot of coy slyness in that tone, and what Seel had in mind probably wasn't fit for human eyes.

[Law deliberately retreats to her other side so he can put his back to a wall, the better to keep an eye on the room]

I'm a pirate captain. We live at sea, so I'm used to a lot more seafood. Easy staples that last on a ship. That sort of thing.

[a couple of sips is all he needs to become surprisingly more relaxed, capable of chatting]

You're...unique. I didn't have much time to really get a look but I know you're not human, in a different way from most of the other non-humans here.

[Laura doesn't really care about who's the most classy and flattering lady at the feast. that's Laura's job, anyway, and she's trying to play the part in a little black dress. she cares about who's interesting and Rey's interesting. besides, since they now work together, it would be rude to not say hi, right? right.

she eyes Rey's plate with curiosity. they don't have Chinese food in Twin Peaks, so everything Rey has is new to Laura who is carrying a plate with half of a fried chicken, french fries, cole slaw, and an ear of corn in one hand and a full, frosty cold glass of quality Belgian witbier in the other]

What'cha got there? Looks good.

「And... other stuff? Look, he never made the things, why would he? But since Law is taking forever to decide, Atem starts eating again.」

[oh, okay. Beans. Beans are cool. Sneaking in to grab one before Atem inhales all of them]

[All the better to openly eye him because let's be honest, the booze goggles are in full effect tonight.

The pirate explanation though, that makes sense and she nods along. All the tattoos, the sort of look he has about him - seems fitting.]

[he definitely looks way more the part of a pirate than a doctor, even if both are true.

He swirls his coffee around in the cup a little]

I don't want to bore you with scientific talk. I enjoy comparative physiology, I've had my hands on wraeththu and elves here. Differences are subtle, appearances aside. Eyes and ears are boring, it's all in the way organs work and flesh and bones are nourished and animated.

[yeah, it's not worth talking about. His lurking around the fringes of the room is all anyone needs to guess that he's not exactly having fun]

Onigiri. [see? Atem might have seen it around his time as Yugi's internal companion.] Tuna inside. It's my favorite.

Not in these. I did find some sashimi, though. It looks like...a lot of people were missing seafood.

It's not boring, but I admit I don't know much about all of that in detail. You're right, though, of course. I'm nothing like any of those.

[Whatever wraeththu are - because she hasn't the faintest idea.]

In answer Maglor sings for him, low and sweet, a golden memory of a woman with copper-red curls and freckles on her cheeks, with strong hands and wise eyes, and a low voice full of love as she taught her young son how to bake honeycakes. It's wistful, and sad, for it's a memory of a time long gone that will not come again, but there's joy in it too, and love as deep as the ocean.

No one knows if Idril succeeded in her desperate attempt to get Tuor to Valinor, so perhaps even now he dwells by the sea with my cousin and drinks this in the heady days of summer. But I am glad to share this with you.

Probably a good idea, I think. I would prefer it if they could do this without the flying masonry.

[Time to be forward, evidently. She steps forward toward where he's backed himself against the wall, and reaches forward to place a hand on his arm, if he doesn't run away or something.]

[Law stiffens a little, as he do when people invade his personal space without his permission, but he doesn't run. He just stares her down with his usual blank demeanor. He's already turned down one booty call this week...]

Is that supposed to be some sort of innuendo?

[She grins, leans against him a little, and ugh, she can't believe she's sinking to this level, mortals, really Caedra but this place gives her too few options and - they're not so bad. They look nice, some of them. It's just depressing when she knows she could do so much better. But she laughs anyway because okay, yes, the line was pretty silly, even she'll admit that.]
