Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[ Did she give him that on purpose?! Even as he grabs the glass and starts drinking his eyes are betrayed over the rim of it. Between sips he gets out: ]

[Now she's really laughing.]

Sorry. I thought you were into that.

[hardwearing]

[ Oh my god Kyna they're in public. How many shades of red can he turn and how many can he blame on the vindaloo? ]

Dumped.

[ Who here got ice cream, he's gonna go proposition them instead. ]

[evocation]

Bullshit. You love me.

[She says it as a joke, without thinking, and then it's her turn to blush. Kyna turns back to the table quickly, grabbing one of the brownies and shoving it at him.]

Eat this.

[So she can go drown herself in some soup or something.]

[hardwearing]

[ It sounds like she's just giving him a hard time, but then she's blushing too and he's out of beer and still intensely uncomfortable so even though he's never heard of brownies as a remedy for spicy things.... it's getting eaten. Which also means he doesn't have to respond right that second, a bonus.

Don't drown in soup, though, that sounds awful. ]

[evocation]

Uh... I think those are the same ones my brother makes. If that's like... possible.

[Avoidance! Avoidance is good.]

[ Curufin has seen some levitating of rubble before, in his own world, but not like this. This seems almost a joyful levitation, like a huge, clumsy but highly intentional dance. It's a good accompaniment to a morning walk, under the ruby lights of the Secondary Sun. And he is feeling jubilant at the moment. His injuries are healing well, although it's going to be a while before he is up to his usual level of activity. ]

Early risers have all the fun. [ Smile. ]

[ He really is pleased to see her. She looks cheerful and energetic, launching herself into the morning. ]

I'm sneaking out of the house for a bit, had to wait till my brother Maglor was asleep. He'll scold me when I get back, insist I'm not well enough to be gadding about town, but I needed a breath of fresh air and a turn around the block. [ It's more than around the block. He's now a couple of miles from his house. ]

[hardwearing]

[ Whether they're his brownies or not, it actually is helping. And tastes pretty good once his mouth isn't on fire as much anymore. She is definitely being awkward now, though, and leaving Wash to salvage an uncomfortable situation is a bad choice. He'll try??? ]

Nico bakes?

[ His voice is a little rough from the coughing. ]

Kind of. Just the brownies. They're his thing.

[hardwearing]

...it's a normal brownie, right?

[ He doesn't taste anything funny but after that curry it's possible. ]

Curufin admires Kelson's coiff. It looks a lot like the style favored by his cousins Fingon and Finrod, very princely.

"Take-out is a phrase used by our twentith and twenty-first century friends from Earth. Apparently, many restaurants -- that is, the bars and taverns of their era -- will take orders from customers who do not intend to come and eat the food at the establishment. Instead, the restaurant will prepare the food and the customer comes and gets it."

He smiles in response to Kelson's arched eyebrow. "Speaking of restaurants, I guess Hadriel is one, and we are on the menu." Not that he likes it any better than Kelson does. And he'd be happy to know about it, if there are active wards that are capable of blocking his energies from flowing out to be consumed by the gods.

[evocation]

[That gets her to smile again and roll her eyes.]

Yes. Except for the grasshoppers.

[hardwearing]

Grasshoppers?

[ If she's still trying to mess with him, that tack won't work. ]

They're super healthy, you know. Some colonies farm crickets as a secondary protein source.

[evocation]

[She wrinkles her nose.]

Ew. Do you eat crickets?

[ Curufin thinks about that and comes up with something Atem once described to him. Strange as it sounded to him, he could imagine why people favored such food. It must be very convenient. ]

Oh, you mean a burger? Wait, let's keep walking. I saw a platter of cheeseburgers, it's just up ahead.

[ He's pleased to see Whistler! And he has a task to discharge. ]

Say, Whistler, I finished your sunglasses. [ He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a glasses case, which he puts into Whistler's hand. Whistler will find a pair of beautifully crafted sunglasses inside. They will be a perfect fit for his face, look both practical and stylish, and have wonderful UV-blocking properties, as well as dimming the visible light part of the two suns' spectrums. ] Sorry it took so long. I was out of commission for a bit, got injured in a fight with some demons. [ He chuckles. ] My brother and my son threatened to sit on me if I tried to sneak off to the workshop, so I had to be fairly sneaky about it. [ He thinks this is hilarious.]

[hardwearing]

[ ... does he sense an opening for some revenge? And maybe breaking this weird tension? Taking it. ]

I have, yeah. The crunch takes some getting used to but they're not bad.

[evocation]

[Yeah, that is total disgust on her face. She shudders.]

Oh my God. I'm never kissing you again.

[hardwearing]

[ That gets a grin. ]

Now who's bullshitting?

I thought you were the brave one with food -- and crickets are like the least disgusting edible bug.

"If you often treat others as you did Margaery, then I'm certain that death is not a new experience for you. Ho hum, people hunting me down with torches and pitchforks, just another boring Friday night! Tell me, why was this particular risk worth taking? What made it worthwhile?" This isn't just a rhetorical question. He genuinely wants to know.

No such luck, people are not often sent home after experiencing death in Hadriel. And being locked in all together is a trial for most Hadrielites -- they are always confronted by experiences that do not bring them joy.

[evocation]

Wait, what? Does that mean you've eaten other bugs?

[Don't grin at her!]

[hardwearing]

Once or twice.

[ Not actually as an emergency food source, but on dares when visiting places that did farm other bugs. ]

Crickets have the highest protein, even if the antennae get stuck in your teeth. Like popcorn shells, right?

[evocation]

[This is the worst thing anyone has ever said to her. Her expression shifts from disgusted to horrified, and she gives him a gentle little push.]

Never, ever kissing you again. Ever.

[ Spoken like a true crafter, although of course that is not George's profession. Well, maybe if Curufin ever returns to his world, he'll introduce waffles to Middle-earth! ]

It was. . . nice. It was the best time of my life. I had a son, too, whom I was raising after his mother left me. He grew up in that country, and I and his uncles all adored him and raised him. Yes, the companionship was good, the best, in fact. And it was good to have a common goal. But it's true that seven children is a lot for an Elvish family. We bickered and quarreled and helped each other and took care of one another -- in short, we loved each other dearly.

[ He lifts his glass in a toasting gesture and then sips. ] Ah, that explains the importance of the waffles! What were the other Reapers like? Did you get along with all of them? [ She mentioned her boss in their network conversation, but not the others. ]

[hardwearing]

[ That just gets him to step back in closer than before. ]

Liar.

[evocation]

[She makes a face at him, stepping back.]

Nope. Now you totally have to dump me.
