Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

( Levitating rubble isn't exactly normal, but it's pretty useful. She's never seen anyone levitate this much rubble in one go, and it's just another reminder of how powerful the things that call themselves gods are. But for now, that thought is secondary to simply getting through the day, getting some exercise in before anything else.

When she drops down, her plaits thud against her back and she brushes her forehead free of the sweat which glistens there. )

( A nod of greeting as she catches her breath before speaking further. )

[ Curufin has seen some levitating of rubble before, in his own world, but not like this. This seems almost a joyful levitation, like a huge, clumsy but highly intentional dance. It's a good accompaniment to a morning walk, under the ruby lights of the Secondary Sun. And he is feeling jubilant at the moment. His injuries are healing well, although it's going to be a while before he is up to his usual level of activity. ]

Early risers have all the fun. [ Smile. ]

[ He really is pleased to see her. She looks cheerful and energetic, launching herself into the morning. ]

I'm sneaking out of the house for a bit, had to wait till my brother Maglor was asleep. He'll scold me when I get back, insist I'm not well enough to be gadding about town, but I needed a breath of fresh air and a turn around the block. [ It's more than around the block. He's now a couple of miles from his house. ]

( Well, cheerful by Kate's standards. Which is basically that she isn't keeping her expressions quite as tightly controlled as usual. Things have been good in Hadriel (well, by Hadriel's standards, and discounting the flu and its consequences), even before this, and the barrier's appearance and the shift of the rubble is just the icing on top, so to speak.

As for Curufin, he does look better than he would have a couple of weeks ago, but Kate gives him a stern brow raise which quickly ends in a quirk of the lips, amused more than anything. )

Not one to stay still?

( That's alright, neither is she. )

[ Let's hear it for icing on the cake! Curufin would be glad to know that things have been good for Kate. ]

Nope.

[ He can't help grinning at that stern look, which he knows well comes from concern. It's likewise nice to be someone who can evoke that amused reaction from her. ]

I thought I was going to go crazy, not only staying inside but staying in bed. [ Of all the outrageous ideas!!! ] My family were preoccupied with a whole slew of Guard shifts and other duties, so I sneaked out. I do this from time to time. [ He also sneaked out of the Clinic after two days, bad bad Curufin! ]

So how have you been, Kate?

Gonna take longer to get better.

( Hypocrisy, party of one. This is the same woman who reacted to power exhaustion by trying to rebuild the clinic. As one does. )

... Good. ( Despite the recent events, the flu (which she thankfully avoided catching) and the demons, Kate's doing well. She's had some measure of peace and most importantly, the clinic continues to run without her present 24/7, worrying over it. ) Could do with more entertainment here.

( And fewer demons appearing. )

Yes, I'm afraid so. [ A bit rueful, a bit humorous. ]

[ Curufin admires Kate for pitching her (depleted) energies into the rebuilding of the Clinic. He has firsthand knowledge of this since he was there helping. ]

I'm glad. [ Kate's a good organizer. It's to her credit that the Clinic can run so well when she's not there all the time. ] I was rather hoping for some entertainment myself. I imagine that since Fear is fed for the time being, the next on the list should be one of the positive emotion feeders -- Hope, Tranquility or Love. Maybe even Delight. Otherwise, we might have to organize our own fun.

[ He's had enough of demons for a while! ]

( If anyone ever wondered why these two get on... SIGH.

They can but hope (and be disappointed) for more positive events. Non-troublesome events. Things which don't require making her feel as though she's aged 10 years from stress. )

All the buildings fixed could be used for something.

( You know, if they could find someone who wanted to run something fun instead of Practical. )

[ Yes, they're both incapable of reserving their energies. Once they have their eye on a purpose, they go all out. And they don't count the cost to themselves. . . EYEROLL.

That is so. The odds are against the occurrence of non-troublesome events. They'll just have to put up with the stress and the gray hairs! ]

Do you have any ideas as to what the fixed buildings could be used for? [ Anybody up for a roller derby? XD ]

( That's what her deal with Love's about. The blonde is bad enough. If she starts going grey at the roots because of this city.

Allow her the vanity, please. )

Wouldn't say no to more bars. ( Kate... )

[ What was her deal with Love? And hey, he misses the bright pink hair -- it was SO KATE. But she's still herself, would be herself even if her hair was snow-white. But gray hair, perish the thought. She is allowed her vanity! ]

Neither would I. [ Curufin. . . ! ]

[ They did have some great conversations in Delight's Bar (deceased, alas!) and the Speakeasy. If one bar is good, surely six would be better? XD ]

( Getting the pink back. In exchange for... ugh, showing love for people. )

Restaurant or two, too.

( As much as she enjoys her boyfriend's cooking, it would be nice to get out of the house and not have to worry about what food they can find to fashion into an edible meal. )

[ Ugh, what a terrible deal!!!! -dies laughing- ]

And how about. . . oh I don't know, some kind of a concert house? A big venue that can hold a lot of people and host a lot of music? And can be easily lit or decorated? Not that I don't enjoy the Speakeasy, but something bigger and wilder?

[ But he'd definitely go for restaurants. Scrounging Hadriel every day for edibles is time-consuming and shall we say not always rewarding? Not to mention hunting for edible monsters and trying to cook them so they don't taste like what they are. ]

Bianca would've liked that.

( Her tone takes on a slight wistfulness at that. Bianca was certainly a colourful part of Hadriel, and the place never quite felt the same since she was taken away. )

I never knew Bianca. She was your friend?

( It takes a moment before Kate nods. Their friendship was a... complicated thing. But it was a friendship. )

Good drinking partner. Too touchy feely.

( ... Kate. )

[ Raise a glass to complicated friendships! ]

[ He's laughing a little. ] How did you deal with that? Smack her over the head with the beer pitcher?

( Kate snorts at the idea. No, Bianca would have made her regret that. )

Dealt with it. Told her to go sing for people, sometimes.

[ Curufin laughs when she snorts. He's always liked her eloquence of expression. ]

That sounds almost as good as clocking her with the pitcher. Did it work?

( Of course it worked, and Kate can only nod and take a drink as she does. )

[ Nice to have a friend who loves music so much that it distracts her from being a nuisance! ]

Well, then, it sounds as though we are agreed on more bars and a rock concert hall. With Bianca's approval in retrospect.

( But for now, they should drink themselves into the night, wouldn't you say? )

[ Absolutely! They should drink themselves into the night, drink themselves onto the dance floor and later drink themselves under the table, and wake up foggy-brained and blinking in the light of the Primary Sun.
